Xbox 360 burning down houses?

So my mom's client's husband (ha, yeah, we're already off to a bad start, credibility-wise) who works at Infinity Ward and who actually got me a copy of Modern Warfare 3 signed by a bunch of the developers, was talking to my mom about the new Xbox and told my mom something intriguing, and a few minutes ago told me. She told me that he told her, since he's of course pretty tight with some of the big cheeses of MS and IW, that early in the 360's console cycle, there were many cases of Xbox's actually burning down houses because of its power cord connected to the adapter. He then said that it was such a big deal for Microsoft that they actually bought the houses that burned down instead of letting the news escape that your Xbox could very well burn your entire house down. And keep in mind, this isn't some funny, anything goes guy, this guy's OCD and [&@%!]-retentive to the max, so I really believe him. Call me crazy, but the idea of MS covering something like this up early in the console cycle would make a lot of sense, with all of the major flak they were getting for the Red Ring of Death issue, this was leaps and bounds worse than an annoying console malfunction.
So supposedly, they increased the size of the cord, and I guess it wasn't an issue anymore...
So, do you believe this?
And do I? Yes, actually, because I haven't known this guy to BS, and it seems pretty legitimate.
