Elder Kings - a mod to Crusader Kings II

..Taking place during the (Second) Imperial Interregnum, it basically allows the player to play any nation/region/etc inside Tamriel, Akavir, and other territories (that I didn't really know about). It's currently released as version 0.1.1, but it's pretty decent. Morrowind and Alinor are the strongest of the nations, as they're pretty stable from not beng conquered by the Empire (of the Reman Dynasty and Akavir Potentate), and wouldn't be really affected by it.

So - there's several things you can do with these places. One would be, like Tiber Septim but sheer centuries before him, unite Tamriel into one large Empire under your rule. Restoring the Empire, and maybe even making a -new- one. Ruled not by the Imperials, but maybe the Dunmeri, the Crowns, the Forebears, the Nords, the Reachmen, etc.

Or, you could simply unite your territory, and form a High Kingdom. These being the Regions we all so love - Resdayn, Alinor, Hammerfell, High Rock, Skyrim, Cyrodill, Elsweyr, Valenwood.

It's mostly a 'what if' for lore people. What if the Indoril Golden Age never ended, and Morrowind conquered all of Argonia? What if Hammerfell was united under Crown rule, not under Sentinel, but under Dragonstar? What if the Empire never formed, and the regions became their own mini-Empires?

At the moment, here is one of my ambitious projects concerning the game;

I'm seeking to make Hammerfell united under my rulership in Dragonstar.

Great idea. Might pick up Crusader Kings II just for this. I loved Europa Universalis 3, could not get into Crusader Kings II demo but this changes everything! :-)

There's also a good mod of Game of Thrones people say. Maybe I will get this game to try those mods. Played it once in my friend computer, it's a very good game

I'm one of the modders who've contributed a little bit to the EK mod (I do do CKII modding when I'm not playing ES), and even though I haven't had much an opportunity to play it, the work the main modders for Elder Kings have done is nothing short of impressive - I've seen quite a number of new features that really helps with immersing into the ES world.

The main devs have said they're working towards it eventually. Basically what they're doing is they're starting from the earliest start date they'll be doing, and moving forward slowly - the main problem is that a lot of the rulers simply have to be made up, so it takes a while to create interesting situations for all of them. Eventually, they'll work their way all the way to the Stormcloak Rebellion in the fourth era.

Also, how come wen I resign it still does like classic CK2 with the Houses, it beats House Godfrey etc, and doesn't show my rulers?

Character models definitely need work. I'd not necessarily include Akavir, or if I did I may do it slightly differently.

I think Akavir should be implemented with an Akaviri invasion event.

And with Crusader Kings II being 75% off on Steam until Friday, there really isn't any excuse not to try this mod anymore, I guess...

Sadly though, looks like this MOD is either incompatible with some DLC, or with the most recent patch(es) to Crusader Kings.. :-/ Instant crash when trying to run the mod (main game works fine)

The game was just recently updated with the major patch, and usually it takes most mods at least several days to merge with the new changes (CKII patches are huge and the one for TOG is probably the biggest one of them all) as CKII patches usually add in a ton of new features - since the old versions of the mods don't have these new features, these generally result in crashes and incompatibilities. For a complete conversion mod like Elder Kings, the process of merging the new patch may take considerably longer. I'd personally wait at least a week before waiting for a new version of Elder Kings. :)

I got it when it first came out and it wasn't very good. Have the updates smoothed out the initial problems?

The updates have more than smoothed out the initial problems, they've added entirely new features to the game, a good number of them for free. I picked up the game when patch 1.06 was out, and from what I heard 1.06 was already a massive improvement... over 1.03 and 1.04, which was already a massive improvement over the initial release. Now we're on 1.10, and I can tell even then the game has changed significantly. You can search online for the changelogs for every version up to 1.10, and each time they add more and more.

I'd really say you should give it a try again, particularly with one of the new playable groups like the Muslims, Republics, Pagans, or Zoroastrians (although for those you'll need DLC to unlock them... there should be a CKII sale on the steam sale in about a month, anyhow).

I was actually talking about the Elder Kings mod. Maybe I was spoiled from the ASOIAF mod but it seemed unfinished.

ASOIF mod isn't updated yet for 1.101

Annd, you can play Elder Kings now.

It's really fun atm.

I'm rebuilding the Ayleid Empire as Auri-El worshipers.

Oh, yeah. Right before Elder Kings came out, when I was still a member of the EK mod team, there was a lot of hesitancy I think about releasing EK in its unfinished state. A lot of people were actually getting angry that we didn't release it yet even though it was "playable". However it was full of bugs and the head of the team really wanted to wait for as long as possible. Even when we released it it still had problems, which was why it was called an alpha or beta release (I think).

As of now from what I've heard the mod is in a playable state. Is it finished? No. But I guess if we didn't release it sooner or later we wouldn't get enough feedback - at some point the feedback of the beta testers is only so much.

Only today: Crusader Kings II 75% off (on Steam). An excellent offer for those wanting to try out this mod, I'd think.

Hmm, If anyone could help, The mod starts up absolutely fine, but whenever I try to select a kingdom to play, and It begins loading, the mod then crashes, anything I can do?

There could be a million reasons why, unfortunately. Did you try asking in the main mod thread or on EK's forum (you might get a faster response there)?

I'll give it a go, I thought that my version didn't work with the latest CKII patch

For anyone having issues running mods in the game, via Steam, go to crusader kings II properties/beta and opt for the beta version, it rolls back your version so you can use mods
