Tirdas and Turdas

Bear with me - this is only very loosely Lore, I know, but the Elder Scrolls Calendar is in the Lore section of the wiki.

How on earth do you pronounce Tirdas and Turdas? In my default pronunciation they'd be identical, but clearly people in the ES universe don't go around being confused about Tuesday vs Thursday!

Tirdas: "Tear"-das, as in tears/crying? "Tyre"-das, as in car or bicycle tyres? "Tur"-das, like turning? Or some other way?

Turdas: "Tur"-das, like turning (or "turd", someone had to say it, may as well be me). "Toor"-das, to rhyme with "door"? Or some other way?

It would help if you had video/audio clips of characters in an Elder Scrolls game actually saying these words, although as we all know, voice actor pronunciation isn't always right. "Daedra" has three different pronunciations just in Oblivion! ("Day"-dra, "Dee"-dra, and "Dead"-ra.)

I know it's an odd thing to want to know, but we're starting our role play on Turdas 27th Last Seed 4E 202, and I'd just like to be able to say it!

I don't think they're ever mentioned in dialogue.

Indeed. A dialogue text search on Oblivion and Skyrim in the content database came up empty, so I'm pretty sure they've never said the words aloud in-game. The only occasions I know of where a character has said a day of the week, they've mistakenly used the real-world name instead of the TES equivalent.

I don't know the actual lore way to prounounce them but I've always pronounced them as they'd be pronounced in my language, which is Finnish, so I've never really had this Tirdas/Turdas confusion. If you're interested, just go to Google translator and put it to English --> Finnish and then type the weekdays in the box and after that press speaker button below the translation. If you've done it right, you'll see that the pronounciation between the two is very clear.

I'm quite sure that it isn't the correct way the lore writers wanted it to be pronounced but at least they don't sound too similar and won't sound completely different from the way they're written.

I have always said "tear-das" and "turd-as", you'd think that they would say what day it is at least once in the series though lol.

Although it is never mentioned, I believe it is pronounced "tear-daz" and "tur-daz

Using scandinavian pronunciation works, I think. Teerdas and toordas, as the names of the days are definitely inspired by the scandinavian day names, at least, that is how it seems to my feeble danish brain

In portuguese it's easy to differ them from one another

Tirdas = Tear - das(like da in fus-roh-da)
Turdas= Tour - das

So we're reaching a consensus of "Tear"-das and "Toor"-das? Cool :D.

How did you do this? Was it using the wiki, or some other database that mere mortals don't have access to? I'm curious because there's an awful lot of dialogue that's missing from the wiki, and I've found myself having to search for "Let's Play" videos on YouTube when I want to know what a particular character says. (I write fanfic, and while I try not to steal too many lines of dialogue from the game, it's useful to get an idea of what the character is like). In fact, I couldn't even find either of the famous lines about mudcrabs from Oblivion on the wiki!

Oh, cool!

*searches the INFO strings for "mudcrab", obtains six results*

Thanks!

Sorry, baratron, I didn't notice your question.

My language is a phonetical language, so I pronounce these words, as they are written. Something like: tĩrdʌs / tʊrdʌs.
So I need to say my language is less problematic in this way ;)

'ĩ' is something like 'iː' sound but shorter
'r' is more voiced, for example it exists in linking ("are you?" <- ɑː-r-juː)
