Skyrim and tes combat

Most of my friends say I'm a nerd for playing tes. I've had them try it out a few times and I always get the same response about the game being confusing with inventory and crafting.. Then there's combat, it's always the same complaint.. To free no control hard to keep target in front of them. I admit it takes practice but to have target lock or combo combat would jes make the game way too easy.. I never got the target lock concept, but it seems that's what is keeping millions from playing tes. I hope they never change it. The combat in tes is the best I ever played and if u want target lock go play cod

Seems like they're used to playing button mashers. "Locked on, XXXXXXXXXXX, dead, next target, lock, XXXXXXXXXXX, dead. Etc"

I agree, Auto targeting ruined gaming. The only game I've liked with auto-locking on was Star Wars Battlefront 2, in starfighter mode, since homing missiles are entirely achieveable. And the auto-locking didn't interfere with you trying to target the enemy yourself.
Honestly, they should bring out another Unreal tournament. COD etc just don't compare...
Skyrim's combat system just feels right for me, although the inventory system of Oblivion was much better than Skyrim's. That is unarguable. Crafting is too simplistic actually, IMO. Especially Hearthfire...

Sometimes I don't get some of those target locking games. 10 targets in a tight group at a choke point, for example. You line up a sniper rifle on the first one to come around the corner and.... MISS.... and that sot miraculously missed EVERYONE in the group
Granted the locking system probably allows for more consistent measurements for damage output and later on for balancing issues...

Lol at button mashers... Yea this is not street fighter... I thought the crafting in TES was so easy for beginners compared to dragons dogma, the crafting in that game felt cluttered to me and the combat took no skill whatsoever... Face it skyrim is a rpg for true rpg players and the rest jes try too hard to get new gamers... I hope and we all know vats will be in the game but I hope fallout Boston plays like skyrim with a assault rifle and a scope... I would love it, but vats isn't bad but it should be a perk not standard...

I don't understand how the combat is that hard. You just to have some common sense. If someone is swing a big hammer at me, I might want to dodge or block with my shield.

In some ways, Skyrim's combat isn't complex enough. Look at all the stuff that's been taken out since Morrowind for example.

Very True. I think there needs to be different attacks or weapons that damage better to what armor they are wearing.

I'd like a couple things like being able to damage the body in a manner similar to fallout (cripple legs to slow them, cripple arms to make them weaker/lessaccurate, etc) and weapons having a chance to put in some kind of status altering effect(s) that is altered by armor type. Like bladed weapons having a high chance of causing bleed over time against various light armors and blunt having a high chance of doing a drain life effect when wearing heavy armor.
Granted then the above would need to scale with your abilities somewhat so you don't just ignore it.

Agreed. Maybe I'm just prejudiced because I've been playing fighting games and other RPGs lately, but Skyrim's combat system is really simple (although not as much as Oblivion's). Not that that's always a bad thing, but it's kind of hard to imagine someone complaining about Skyrim's combat being too hard/complex...

I'd like to see a perk that has a chance to disarm, perhaps a block counter attack... I liked vats but the problem is when u dont use vats u don't get much in the way of damage almost forcing you to enter vats... A shotgun at point blank range should have heavy damage when aiming down the sights... Hip fire being the exception.. That's why skyrim oblivion are great combat games... Morrowind killed me at times when I would miss a target I clearly hit... But that's what made morrowind a true rpg rather than action rpg like oblivion.. Skyrim has bugs but all in all its one of the best games when it comes to action combat and real time damage affects... They will get it right eventually, it's a shame patches have to be released to fix bugs but with such a massive radiant world with real time combat it hard to be bug free.. Maybe a passive mode like AC while in the presence of passive npcs... If they ever put targeting systems in skyrim imagine how easy ebony warrior would be to kill with stun lock...

between oblivion and skyrim, complexity on combat has a few interesting things going in both that may or may not have ever come up for some players. The different power attacks in oblivion certainly did throw me through a loop two, especially since couldn't enemies utilize the paralyzing and disarming attacks? Jumping into and out of the fray or rolling dodges being used in a manner similar to skyrim's sprinting.
Actually in Fallout NV, VATS isn't as huge a bonus if you have good aim. I only really wound up using it for the Slow Mo sniper shots (which look really bad ass at 100+ yards away, bonus if using incendiary rounds). Fallout 3 VATS was OP really for the damage reduction. And how does targeting systems and stun-lock correlate? Can't you stun lock anything not immune to paralysis as it is now?

With dual impact perk or power shot perk, add in target lock and never let the target get close, as of right now targets move and unless ur an absolute monster at aiming on the fly ur bound to miss... Not with target lock plus impact = stun lock never miss.. For instance u. Can stun lock ebony warrior but he will resist it from time to time and stride left and shout, with target lock when he moves ur targeting system moves making it easy to stun lock... That was my argument

Ah, you mean the stagger effect from those damaging effects. I was thinking paralysis. Very different mechanics. One being tied to damaging skills as part of something and the other actually a casted spell, one of which requires no aiming to begin with.
