Am I the only one who HATES followers?

All these threads I read it seem there are a LOT of people who love to have followers. Me personally I cannot STAND to have a follower with me. The ONLY times I have ever had them is on the quests which require me to take one along, and even then most of the time I will tell them to stay at the start of the dungeon/building where the quest is (if they even listen). To me they are a nuisance and the AI with them is horrible. I cannot count the times during my first playthrough where I would be sneaking to have a follower yell out "did I hear something" or "where did you come from" and go rushing in all gung ho and blowing my sneak attack. Also how hard is it for a follower to stay out of the way of my swinging sword or arrow?
I don't know but maybe I just have fallen in love with the whole solo aspect of the Elder Scrolls games and just don't like tag alongs.

I usually just use them as mobile lootbags.
But depending on what kinda character I'm playing as, says whether I take someone with me, or go solo.

I usually like the followers but I do get sick of "Watch it sister!" Okay, great Farkas, maybe when it's clear that I've got this one, you come maybe swing at the guy trying to put a sword though my back.

i dont use followers normally, i only use them when im forced to (like Serana)
they just seem useless to me, always running into my sword swings .

For sure on the getting in the way. I think Farkas with the companions was the worst I experienced with being up in my space. also depending on your character if yoga re partaking in anything questionable of morals you then need to go find out the crime alignment of your follower that he/she doesn't turn on you at any point

The whole "getting stuck in doorways" is the reason I mostly stick to daedra followers (Fire, frost or storm thralls and the occasional dremora lords during intense combat)
If they get stuck, I simply resummon them elsewhere.
But when it comes free-roaming the wilderness, I like having the more talkative followers like Erandur or Serana.

yeah, i also don't like how slow they are. like I turn around ever so often to check and make sure they are with me and not stuck on a rock or dead

I don't use followers, either. I like exploring on my own. Followers always blows your cover, sets of traps, stands in doorways, gets in your line of fire, etc.

Depending what kind of character I'm playing. Wait... Know that I think about it I really don't like followers. They always get in my way, I usually kill them and have to haul the stuff they were carrying. I usually take them because they're there really. Except the DBI, I really like them.

I seldom have problems with Followers. The battle with Krev the Skinner was tough for both my Khajiit and my Breton, both of whom are stealthy types. Aela kept running out and announcing our presence, and I couldn't tell her to wait. But that was an exception brought on by the game mechanics of that mission. Generally, if I want to take a situation in a stealthy manner, I'll tell them to wait at the enterance where they won't give me away, and slit throats. If I intend to fight it out, I bring them along. Friendly fire is rarely a problem for me. Ofcourse, I make an effort to fight a different opponent than my follower, if I can. Spells or arrows can sometimes be a thing, but not often. Blades almost never, as I've gotten pretty good at predicting their movement. Biggest problem I ever had with Blood Magic with Vampire Lord form, and I still haven't tested it, but that might not even be a thing anymore with the powers added by the Black Books in Dragonborn. I can go Firestorm happy if I'm so inclined and not do any harm. Whether is applies to Vampire Lord magic, I don't know yet. Should try to test it soonish.
Beyond that, I just like having a friend around to share my adventures. Whether it be my faithful Housecarls, my shield siblings in the companions, my fellow magic students from the college, or just people I've met who want to go out and explore, it just makes the world a bit more fun to me to have the company. If I could, I'd get myself a party together.

I would absolutely agree in the liking the company aspect. Especially for RP purposes I do enjoy having someone there to share adventures and stories. Make friendships and give someone a chance to see the world and what not. However all the same I think there are a few little things I would love to see worked out. Like it would be excellent if "stealth mode" was an option as opposed to drop into sneak and they will to...until there is a nearby threat. Or a one click target button rather than mid combat trying to go engage them in conversation and send them off after a target. I often try to fight a different target if there is one available also but for some reason they tend to head on over to me, likely because they are my ally trying to defend what is harming me, but still. Friendly fire while a rare annoyance with melee weapons...I feel that every time I try to use magic someone is eager to leap between me and my target and then be upset with you for attacking them. However I will say it's nice that they do have it set up nicely where if they do get caught in the crosshairs, they don't turn on you. For example I fought a dragon the other day outside Riften and a Kahjiit caravan tried to help, only got in the way and got hit. Next thing I know I'm fighting a dragon and five Kahjiit. So I do appreciate the followers not doing that nonsense.

The only followers I have are Serana, Rieklings, dragons, flame/frost/storm antronachs, the occaisional dremora, and quest followers. Of which I prefer Neloth, since he is actually decent, almost rivalling my character for magical ability.
Everyone else basically just causes more issues than they solve IME.

The mechanics for followers definitely need a little fix before they return, but I find them enjoyable. They're optional (in most cases), so you're not forced to drag them about at least, but life is not a solitary experience, so why should a game pretend it is? I find the extra spurt of life a little refreshing. It's more fun to imagine my hero having someone to talk to here and there or taking down a bandit camp with some assistance.
But, really, I mostly use them just for the extra weight. Someone has to carry my burdens...
It is annoying how they run into everything, though. If that could be fixed, I'd find them much more enjoyable. But waltzing across traps and through fire - what are you doing!

Serana is the only one I like because she isn't completely worthless in a fight like most others. That, and she never loses her essential tag, so less work for me. (Because it's so much work for me to open the console and make my followers essential). I do get tired of her constantly complaining about the sunlight, though...

My main problem with them is that they are so 1-dimensional, they should have much more dialog and character development.
Most of them have like 3 lines that they constantly spam every 2-3 minutes.
The ones that seem to be "good" guys will gladly help you murder a whole town or city and support you in any evil deed you do. (same goes for the evil/murderer guys who will help you with all your good deeds without comments.)

I agree they should have more dimension and character and also its not even each follower has a couple lines its like there are a bunch of generic follower lines. and i have seen two exceptions to the good guys ok with bad stuff thing. That woman u fight in the bannered mare did attack me when i attacked guards and farkas attacked me when i

Other than Serana I don't bother with the followers all they seem to do is speak over* important dialogue and get in the way of my fireballs/sword swings/arrows.

On the xbox I absolutely refused to use them because they'd just die/stagger from being in the way
On PC, mod up and fling AoE spells with wild abandon
Unless my character is some kind of melee focused class that has a reliable ranged attack (Rangers, Spellswords, etc.), I never take a melee companion

With Dragonborn, AoE spells and friendly attacks are not even issues.

I enjoy followers, actually. I feel less alone. Sure, having three or more can be hassle, but having just one isn't too bad (As long as it's not Lydia. God, do I hate Lydia).

"I am sworn to carry your burdens."
Possibly the most annoying line in the game.
I like the riekling speech, just wish I knew what they were saying...

I am fan of followers, especially Serana. If the follower has a great back story I really enjoy their company.

I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE that line too! And the way she says it also. It was fine the first time but after the gazillionth time it really started to [&@%!] me off.

I can't stand that line also, after a while it gets annoying. Also, who do you think the Skyrim equivalent of the adoring fan is?
