No spears. Riekling spears are used as 'arrows'.

That's disappointing. I was looking forward to a new weapon type. Oh well.

Still praying for input in a future DLC. They did it in a week at game jam, I'm sure it'd just be a case of refining the animation/movements. Adding thrust and all that. I'd probably wager we will see spears eventually.

I get this odd feeling... spears might be in a patch. Like how mounted combat was. I dont think that game mechanics like that would have been added in a DLC.

This actually sucks. Spears are the shizz. I really didn't Bethesda would do this, it wouldn't have been as bad if they come out and said they were only arrows, but everyone thought we had spears for a whole month until dragonborn was released.

Yeah, that was kinda disappointing when I tried to use the "spears" by themselves.

That would actually be quite nice. Though I think if spears were added to the game, it would be through DLC since fans have asked for them for a while now and it would give people another reason to buy the DLC.

I was kinda bummed too, trying to throw those little things like javelins...
I quickly forgot about it though. There is plenty to keep one busy.

Spears really aren't anything great anyway, neither were crossbows. Everyone wanted crossbows back in Skyrim and then when they were in Dawnguard I read a ton of posts about how pointless they were. If there are spears in a future update there will be something wrong with them and everybody will hate Bethesda for a few days or we'll all forget about them in a week anyway.

Crossbows are very useful for lower level characters. The point isnt truly that people need spears because thats the 1 class they need to feel right about playing the game. TES is a RPG. I know personally that I have a hard time playing an argonian without them. I loved spears more than most of the other weapon families. Those and staffs that you could hit people with. To be honest Im not the biggest fan of maces.

Spears were one of the things that most impressed me about TESIII. After all, the spear is one of the most widespread weapons in the world, and one of the most ancient. To have warhammers and not spears is more weird than a, um, well, honestly the whole game is abnormal compared with Earth. :^)
My friends call it the LPS Weapons System, where LPS = Long Pointy Stick.
And so we wait. Meanwhile, my L76 character loves his Dwarven Xbow with explosive bolts. Just like the explosive bolts in an escape hatch, they have saved his hide more than once.

In a real-life context, spears were the AK-47 of the ancient world: Crude, but damn-- they worked when nothing else could.

I've heard a rumor that spears will be in the next DLC, along with further exploration of nordic roots. Not sure what the second part means but I personally am hoping for Atmora.

There's loads of news articles already starting rumors that a Beth employee spilled the beans on the topic of the other dlcs and it's been "Snow elves, dwarves and new high king/thalmor". Easily found by typing "skyrim dlc" in google.

Sounds pretty neat.
Bethesda sounds pretty annoyed that
any of this information is coming out.

Is there really going to be another "Big" DLC? I mean, I've noticed that, so far, the DLCs have been almost the same as Oblivion: The first one is just about a faction re-uniting to combat an arising threat, the second one lets you go to a whole new island to liberate it from a mysterious evil. And the rest are a bunch of little add-ons.

I like the idea of going back in time to see the "true" Falmer, as well as the Dwemer, around the time of the First Empire of Men.

Crossbows useless?!? Are you [&@%!] kidding me? Tell that to my 777-damage enchanted enhanced dwarven crossbow with 50% armor penetration, 50% chance to cause 104 damage of each element and another 104 damage of shock along with my exploding dwarven shock bolts. With that BFG and my perks to give it 30% less reload speed and slowing time down by 50%, I'm unstoppable with it. Plus it's fun to use, unlike running up to someone and wailing on them with a blade.
Spears are also the [&@%!]. I used them exclusively in Morrowind because of their reach and damage. I was untouchable.
Now for speculation as to when spears will be added, that's a big "might" because of how they would be introduced. Crossbows had a perfect excuse for being included; they were vampire-hunting weapons. If they added in spears through a patch, then you would just be able to make them out of every material with dragonbone spears being the best. There wouldn't be any unique spears because they would need to add in quests. So this would only make sense for DLC.
They had the opportunity to add spears in Dragonborn, but for reasons beyond me they didn't. Spears would've made perfect sense because they were in Skaal culture. Spears were also one of the most primitive weapons for fighting, not only in this game's lore, but also in our own history. The Skaal also had their own crossbow, so it baffles me as to why they didn't include another type of crossbow into the game.
Bear with me here, but I think I might be onto something. In every TES game since Morrowind, Bethesda has made at least one expansion that tied into a daedric prince. In Morrowind it was Hircine, in Oblivion it was Sheogorath, and in this one it's Hermaeus Mora. For the past two games they have stopped with the DLC after those DLC. They might do the same here. This makes me believe a little that if they include spears, it might be through a patch, but then again, they showed many features in that Game Jam video that haven't been implemented, so they could put more DLC into the game. Bethesda themselves said that they were making DLC to be bigger than the stuff they put in Oblivion, but there wouldn't be as much of it. I'm guessing they will release at least one more DLC, two at the most. It's 50-50 here.
God damn...
Edit: Just read that examiner article and found it amusing that my deduction of how there will be two more DLC's at the most coincide with what that article said. If this rumor is true about another DLC with nord history, then spears would most likely come out with that one. I don't agree with the article on its logic for why they put the skill respec option in, though.

That article makes a really good point about how much beth cares about their games. I am to the point where all of the other new games that I try out frankly suck, and I lose interest in them very quickly. Whereas skyrim I have been playing more or less continuously since it came out. And I played the living [&@%!] out of oblivion as well. I frankly get really sick and tired of all the whining that comes out from the fans (although for the most part the users on here seem to appreciate the games much more than some other sites)
It also makes that point that they have been dedicating a lot of resources to fixing the PS3 issues, to the point of slowing down production of new content. A game studio that didn't care would just shrug their shoulders and say "[&@%!] em."
As for the future add-ons, they both seem very plausible, and I hope this article is correct. I would guess that the falmer/dwemer add-on would involve time travel, probably via an elder scroll. And the political one involving the chosing of a king and bring some noise and funk to those scumy thalmor would be awesome as well.
Beth has a bit of a catch-22 going on, in that they make such great games that people expect so much out of them, so it becomes hard for them to please everyone. I say lay off them and enjoy
