Stealth-based character creation

Okay, so I've decided that I want to make a character that uses stealth, because for some reason I have a soft spot for stealth.

I've set my mind on either an Argonian because of Waterbreathing, which can help me to escape in the event that I'm spotted before I can kill/get past everything, or a Khajiit because of claws and night-eye, which should be obvious.

I've already tried to create both, but the tutorial gets me bored, I've played through it about 6 times.

I'm having a hard time finding what you need help with but I'm gonna assume it's either Khajiit or Argonian. I have a Khajiit thief and he rarely runs into trouble where health potions are needed. But if you like hoods then their heads kind of ruin them. As for Argonians I haven't played as one on skyrim but if they're anything like Oblivion's then I don't really see an upside to their natural abilities. I mean sure they can breathe underwater but there's maybe only one or two places where it is actually needed. And my stealth main is a Breton, so it doesn't necessarily have to be a stealth race.

I begged, begged Bethesda to give us an in-story option to skip the tedious dog-and-pony show that is the tutorial. Ten races, two genders. That's twenty potential startups of original characters, much less new renditions of the old ones.

But, noooooo. Let's ignore the aerodynamicist, shall we?

Topic? Oh, that: the Argonian escape route via water is just as useful to any air-breathing race as it is to them. I once killed a Solitude Guard just to steal his armor for a disguise and made my escape by leaping into the water. Got away clean with no bounty. Trick is, you can't fight while underwater. What is your Argonian going to do when he/she camps in the drink and a Slaughterfish happens by?

The cat is a more potent choice. But, question: how will they use a bow? Those claws will cut the string, no?

Don't cats have retractable claws? I'm sure my old house cat did...

Cheetahs can't. It's why they don't climb trees.

why not play the tutorial through one more time and save the game just before you make the choice? it'll knock 5 mins off the replay time

i'd choose Khaajit because there is very little water in Skyrim to escape to but loads of dark areas to hide in. Night vision is the single most useful power i have encountered in Skyrim, esp for sneaky characters and the cats have it for free

and the trouble with swimming through the enemy lines is often to get out of water you have to climb ladders , which is not sneakable and negates the whole point of swimming sneakily there anyway

If you're on PC, you can save outside Helgen and just use the console command showracemenu and customize your character from that save.

Honestly I don't see waterbreathing as a big perk in Skyrim. If that's your only reason for going Argonian I would pick a different race. In around six months of playing I've never drowned in Skyrim compared to the at least dozen times I drowned in Morrowind. I don't know what was changed but water just isn't that much of a hazard anymore.

i agree, waterbreathing was much more important in oblivion and absolutely vital in morrowind

4 minutes 20 seconds to be precise - the game takes a save then, right after Ralof says "The Empire loves their damn lists"

I recently made a save in the middle of Hadvar's "Who, are you?" line. Surprisingly there are no bugs with it..

One thing I noticed with Hadvar... He sounds very much unlike an Imperial.

That's because he's a Nord. :P

Many races make up the Imperial Legion soldiers, not just the Imperials.
