Support File could not be removed

Hello, I have noticed of late that when i install something on my computer, i get an error at the end stating that installation support file < File Name Here > could not be removed. The games seem to work perfectly fine it seems after, but its curious none the less.

For instance, just installed Morrowind and its expansions, and the error i got was "<pathname>/_Isres.dll could not be removed"

And i got similar errors (they might have been "unable to install support files" ) when installing the Baldurs Gate series as well. But the effect the error seemed to have on it was that when trying to install the Baldurs Gate tutu mod, it could not detect that the games were installed. (i installed them on another computer and was able to install the mod fine, no errors)

All the discs for the games are in good condition and the computer is more than capable to handle those games

I did a google search but there were topics about "unable to install support files" and that seemed about it.

I use Windows XP sp3

Any techies know whats up?

The problem is dependent of your system. It may be like "You're not able to install various components at the same time". It could also be a hardware = driver issue.

But you name that "of late", which would indicate a change in either hardware or software may have caused the problem. It could be corrected by a Restoration point.

You might check http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docu ... x?mfr=true to look for crucial problems.

It appears to be an issue with InstallShield. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any clues to a real fix for your problem. As Andere said, you could try reverting to a restore point to see if that works. This guy here ( http://deadlytechnology.com/web-develop ... ld-engine/ ) has short instructions on how to reinstall the installshield engine ( and the link to the file is on installshield's server so it looks legit) and I would try that first. Otherwise ... it might just be best to reinstall your operating system.

Was able to install Morrowind by setting the installer to run in win2000 compatibility mode but that sounds to have still broken the editor pack so that's not really a clean fix ...

As for tutu not being able to detect Baldur's Gate, it's very likely looking at the windows registry. And the registry information is usually saved at the end of a game's installation. Apparently installers on your machine are failing-out before that can happen. In the case of Baldur's Gate it may be easiest to just reinstall the game once you've figured out your InstallShield issues.
