Hostess is Dead (Requiem for Twinkie the Kid)

So, what did you have planned this weekend? Skyrim gaming marathon? Watching the U.S. Grand Prix? UCLA vs USC?
If you were planning to drop by the corner store for a quick fuel-up of Twinkies or Ding Dongs, you could have a little problem.
Hostess, America's favorite pusher of hydrogenated vegetable oil, is out of business due to a strike by its product-processing machine operators bakers.
Ironic. Twinkies have a half-life which exceeds the total number of years the company has been in operation.
What were your favorites?

Voted. So sad to see this company that made bellies go down go belly up.

The Chevy Volt gets saved by a bailout, and Wonder Bread goes under. Priorities, priorities.

I never was a fan of Twinkies. Or anything of that sort, really.
The had a nasty habit of making me sick.
My brother on the other hand... He pretty much lived off the things when he was in High School.
Well, that and every bottle of pop he could get his hands on.

Whut.
I'll never get to finally eat a Twinkie after years of watching films and TV shows that mention them?

These treats shall be missed. Deep fried Twinkies anyone? Ho-Hos dipped in peanut butter? Gone are the days...

My favorite were the cupcakes; those were really good.
Wonder if I can find any at the store in the next couple days, or if they're gonna sell out like crazy.

Those freaking cupcakes. Such a shame to see them go down by such a small incident.

I like the Twinkies and Donettes, Donettes are great for mornings and I like all the different flavors equally, maybe the coconut is my favorite... slightly.
The Twinkies are great for a "whenever" snack and I suggest stocking up on them before the coming Apocalypse in a month.
EDIT: Wait, I didn't read this right. They are actually shutting down for good!!???!?!??!!!111 Oh my god, why would car companies get bailouts when an American brand like Hostess gets screwed by some losers on a strike? I wouldn't mind learning how to make them and working for free if I got paid in Twinkies, I'd operate the machines for free!
This is depressing, I need to grab a few beers, bye.

HOLY CRAP. Donnettes are part of Hostess?! I totally forgot that.

How will I live?!?

I think I've eaten a twinkie exactly once in my life, and that was once too many. If I really need an excessive amount of sugar baked in a factory and packaged in cardboard, well, Little Debbie products are better anyway (not that I eat those either).

The only time I've ever had a Twinkie was at the Boardwalk, where it was deep fried, with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar on top. Yum.

Never had a twinkie. It seems I never will, either.

Never felt the desire to eat pure, delicious grease and fat. I will not be hurt by its loss.

They keep one in a jar on display at my old alma mater, to test the rumor that they are so chock full of preservatives they don't rot or sour. It's still looking golden and unhealthy. You can always steal it.
I rarely, if ever, ate this stuff as a kid...and when I did, it was hiding away at a friend's house. I won't miss it. But I know my crazy uncle will - it's all he eats!

I actually got a Twinkie making kit as a wedding gift. I had put it on the registry as a joke and was surprised when we actually got it.

"Yo, Ding Dong man, Ding Dong. Ding Dong, yo." -A random fat guy in Weird Al's "Fat" video
We must always remember Hostess for providing us with this historic line.

"You ain't fat! You ain't Fat! You ain't
Nothin'!" haha that's the first thing I thought when I heard ding-dong too
And to think, Thursday night while pulling an all-nighter a colleague of mine passed me a package of twinkies and I turned them down. Little did I know how much of a luxury they would be. This heralds a new grey market - or should it be called a yellow one? SAVE YOUR TWINKIES
Ho-hos were the only ones I ate (regularly) when growing up

I think my feelings can be summed up in a song(to the tune of A Hunting We Will Go):
We hate to see you go,
We hate to see you go,
We hope to hell you never come back,
We hate to see you go.

If you really want a twinkie, you can buy some for about $160.00 on Amazon. You know, if you're desperate...

Yeah, so I stopped at the store tonight. The shelf was entirely cleaned of Hostess snacks.

Yeah, my family didn't buy Hostess products all that often (according to what my parents said today it's because Hostess is a union company and my dad highly dislikes unions after working for one for a while), but I do like Little Debbie better. Cosmic Brownies, Nutty Bars, etc...
