Help with Morrowind Overhaul? (It's lagging)

I downloaded and installed this:

However I seem to keep having problems with it. I have uninstalled Morrowind, reinstalled and then installed this over and over and over with different settings and such, but it just doesn't work very well. There are two problems. The main one is the lag. The game starts get really slow in most places with trees and water. I have tried altering the settings for these to those which shouldn't affect speed, but it didn't work. The graphics extender thing is set to be just above the option for slow computers. I've got the whole thing set for a 'medium' computer, because by their definition it is. I thought about trying slow but don't know if it just wouldn't work at all due to conflicts and stuff..? I used the 'good' option first, and have actually had worse lag problems since turning it down - in particular, the screen freezes and sometimes goes black just after displaying the Bethesda logo.

Am I doing something wrong with it or is my computer just not good enough to run it (it does have the right specs but maybe it's deteriorated a bit)?

The other problem is that with particular save games, when I try to load them a message pops up saying a banner differs from one saved... or something like that, and then it won't let me run it.

Sorry if none of the above makes sense, I've never really used mods before so don't know what I'm talking about :P

The second issue is from downloading Morrowind Overhaul and then loading a previous save that didn't have it, this will almost always cause issues, their might be a way around this but not that I know off.
The first issue is, i'm not sure... I'd say try running it on the lowest setting because it does sound like an fps issue, but it running worse of medium makes no sense. If the modders description say you can run it then you should be able to. Only thing I can think of is that it might be a ram issue? Most likely not.
