Playing as Yourself

First off, I had to fight the urge to name this thread "Playing With Yourself."
Now, does anyone else play as themselves? Create a character that (as much as possible) looks like you and then make the choices you'd make when in the situations your Dovahkiin finds himself in?
If you do play this way, do you make it a guy that grew up on Tamriel and just happens or to have the same personality and all as you or do you attempt to shoe-horn in an explanation of how you ended up in Tamriel?

I'm interested. I think I'll do a guy who grew up in Tamriel that is simply just like me.
Since I'm musically inclined, he shall be a bard. And he shall be a Breton. I think that I'm most like a Breton.

There's not enough skooma in the game for an accurate representation

I'm always torn when it comes to racial choice for me. I'm definitely not the tall barbarian nord but my facial features match them much more so than those of the Bretons whom I'd say my personality and physical stature match more so. If there's a mod that adds all human facial features to all races, lemme know people.

Do it according to your nationality and stuff.
Imperial is for people of Germanic descent.
Redguard is for people of African/Middle Eastern descent.
Breton is for people of European descent.
Nord is for people of Scandinavian/Canadian/Nordic descent.
As for the other descents of human beings in the world, the elves always exist. Not sure how to classify them though.

I'm of Irish and German, so which does that make me? Haha.

Depends on which is your more dominant heritage.
If you're dominantly german then you should go Imperial.
If you're dominantly irish, you could go Breton.

Haha, it's hard to say. I'm sort of a European mutt. My skin-tone, hair-color and green eyes would point towards Irish being dominant, but my build is decidedly German.
But anyway, I just created a red-headed, green-eyed Nord to do battle with. I picked the Nord just because the facial features (shape of the lips and nose) match mine MUCH more closely than the Bretons or Imperials. Now, to figure out how I think I'd fight in Skyrim. How do you plan to handle the "combat-style" choice, Union?

If you're more of an impulsive person, I'd recommend a two handed weapon.
If you're a calculating person who thinks before acting, go one handed and a shield.
If you're an all-or-nothing kind of guy who takes big risks for big reward, take two one handed weapons.
If you don't mind doing extra work to be successful, use some magic.
I could do this all day.

I always play this way when it's possible - I find that it makes choices much harder, compared to roleplaying a nasty character that so obviously is gonna join certain "evil" factions.
I'm getting close to the 1000 hours marker, and I have never joined factions like the thieves guild or dark brotherhood.
But like the things you brought up in your other topic
(how many quests will a "good guy" miss), I will admit that I've had to make compromises that I certainly would not have done, if I was thrown into the game world.
Combat wise - Well, I do have some hardball sniper rifles and guns. So archery suits me fine.

And as a former martial artist, I think the dual wielding animations in 3rd person view looks appropriate.

I did this a while ago, and I ended up choosing a nord because the facial features were the closest to my own. I also am alot more intellectual than I am strong, so I made him a mage. Yeah thats right, Im a nord mage.

I have done this before. I will make another one later. The earliest I have found my family tree is Scandinavian so I will go with a Nord. They math my features, and I am extremely tall so I thought about going High Elf, but I am not an elf. I might have to do kinda a all around guy, because I am smart and in good physical condition. I will have to think about it more.

Well, I assume my werewolf has to do SOMETHING to keep him occupied while waiting to turn back into human so he can open a damn chest.
...oh, AS myself? No, never. I'm not the sort to be some brave hero.

I'm in the Sort Of catagory. I never model my character after myself. However, my character is almost always an extension of myself in some small way. I'm not someone who would commit random acts of violence to those who won't do me harm. So my characters will never charge into the marketplace of Whiterun with weapons drawn and commit random murders. Will kill for Dark Brotherhood missions, but that's business, not personal. Also, I am not attracted to men. So my characters, whether male or female, will always marry a woman.

Imperials? German? C'mon, clearly Mediterranean.

I'll be honest and say I wasn't quite sure what the Imperials would be, but Mediterranean would definitely be better than Germanic.

I do something kind of similar on my first playthrough when I'm just testing the waters and want to get a feel for things before I decide on which direction I'd like to take with roleplaying. While, like you, I don't try and recreate myself or even think that I'm playing myself in any way, I suppose you could technically say I do just because with that initial playthrough I often make the decision that sound best to me or do what I would probably do, without thinking with the mind of my character.

Playing as yourself... is kind of a stupid idea. Admit it, we'd all be (except for Dark SparK) boring, cowardly, dagger-wielding, leather-armor wearing whelps that sit at home all day and try not to get killed.

Or if you are Goldbrand...
I will admit, for some reason my minds ability to differentiate certain game worlds from our can get weak at times, so I get a pit in my stomach for joining the Dark Brotherhood, for stealing from some people, etc. I also never drink any of the wines, ales, meads, etc. available, simply because I wouldn't do so in real life.

You are looking at it the wrong way. It is not that we are literally ourselves, but an extension of ourselves. Plus, I am sure people on here would be heroes. A lot of people fight for their countries, so they aren't scared. And we would have to fight. We could always load our last save.

Technically, you'll need access to medieval weaponry.

I really like this question...You have inspired me to make a character like me.He will be an Imperial. Probably medium build and sneaky/quick since thats where my strengths are as im not all that buff. So im thinking light armor. Probably a hunter of some sort. Im a prety good shot with a rifle so obviously id replace this with a bow in game.
