Free SW for modelling in Linux?

Hi there,

I started playing Morrowind on Intel Atom N455 ( :) ) with Intel GMA 3150 graphics ( :D ) on Linux using Wine ( ). Well, I saw Morrowind running faster than that before on better machines.

I started to "make" a mod to lighten the load and improve FPS count. I have chosen the easy way - delete all that don't have to be there using TES CS. That means chairs (characters can't sit, remember?), tables, carpets, windows and simply anything making the great atmospehere of Morrowind. All this is labeled by "static", no containers, etc. involved.

But right now, I'm in need to open 3D model (.nif file? Where can I get this .nif file? How to extract it and from where?) to delete things right in this model (many models).

Is there some freeware 3D model editor for Linux that can open and save this model? And where to get the model (asked some lines above this)?

Would somebody be interested in this "mod"?

If Blender can do that (open, edit, save .nif), I will do that ;-)

Do you possibly know how to get .nif files? Should I extract them from .esm files? Which SW should I use to do so (this can probably be even Windows SW, it should work through Wine).

I'm not dumb, I just thought some real modder might help me here, instead of me searching for everything myself. No offense.

I don't think that you think that I am dumb (now, that's a sentence  ).

Just thought that I could get some modder with experiences ;-) Now I have some tips what to look for and it's up to me todo anything with it. Thanks
