I just had the 3 thugs hired to come after me for stealing a fork on accident. I subsequently dropped the fork, but I suppose its the principle.
What is the most ridiculous thing that that the thugs were sent after you for?

Apparently they hate it when you clear their house out. But they try to kill you when you steal their cheese.

I'm sorry, Balimund. I didn't know that little strap of leather was so important to you.

Um, yeah, thanks Delphine. You sent thugs after me for accidentally stealing a basket. So much for getting my help later on...

btw doesn't she treat the dragonborn like a total tool anyway?
Thugs came after me because I killed an npc in the town with a bolt that was aimed and going for a master vampire. It's their own fault for getting in the way.

I had thugs sent after me from a random bandit when I first started Skyrim. I pick-pocketed the bandit that stands guard at Embershard mine to test out the new system and then killed him. That obviously didn't stop him from sending thugs after me and signing the contract as "Bandit", he could at least be creative like

I normally avoid taking stuff without killing the owner dead, lol. Anise, has sent some [&@%!] my way though. They met my Pacify and dagger.

Mine was a Falkreath Guard ...... for a goblet. Obviously they are strugglig for cups in Skyrim. Seeing as I didn't know which one it was, I killed every guard in Falkreath.

I just got one from Stump.. The dog in Riverwood for stealing... I distinctly remember Alvor, Sigrid and Stump all dying a few days ago from a vampire attack though. This game never ceases to amaze me with strange happenings.

They are not instruments of justice nor vengeance. They're target practice.

I especially like when a newly deceased Briarheart sends them after me for pickpocketing his briar heart, which is why he's recently deceased...

Sorta related. I had a courier give me a note from Calcemo. He found out that I had recently came into possession of a dwemer arrow, purchased from the Drunkened Huntsmen. He wanted to buy it from me for research, you know, since they're so rare and technologically advanced. The thing was though, that I bought the arrow three minutes before getting the note...From a guy half way across Skyrim. Word really travels fast there...

Not quite thugs lol but ironic none the less.
Similarly, I killed Faendal in a cave near Kynesgrove with a stray fireball. I walk towards the Inn and a courier runs up and says I have a message from Sven thanking me for killing his arch-rival.

I stole the soul gem from Farengar Secret Fire's desk while he was asleep. He sent thugs. The next time I went there to use the enchanter, he gave me a free gift potion for being such a good friend. I assumed he was feeling guilty for over-reacting!

I actually enjoy the Thalmor hit squads. They put up a decent fight, and their notes give you credit for being "dangerous", while Astrid's DB assassin's notes refer to you as a "poor fool". Given the Thalmor's haughty attitude, you'd think it would have been the other way around.

That's because the Dark Brotherhood tragically underestimated you.
If the Thalmor had the means, they'd find a way to take over your mind and turn you into one of their servants.
I'm thinking, some sort of slug sent up the nose to eat out and take over a portion of the cerebrum. That's how the Thalmor roll.

I got one from Septimus Signus for stealing a potion. He wrote his letter very coherently for a man who's insane....

While we're on the subject of confusing Radiant notes, I got a letter from "a friend" for using the Thu'um in Sky Haven Temple. Apparently the Blades aren't quite ready for the Dragonborn's return. Delphine must have quite the mouth on her; the rumours had already circulated most of Skyrim in the time it took me to ride to Whiterun and be confronted by a pants-less courier.

I stole some clothes from Hod and Gerdur's house, then a day or two later got thugs sent after me. But the letter wasn't from Hod or Gerdur. It was from their kid, Frodnar. Those must've been some pretty hardcore thugs, to take jobs from children.

I accidentally picked up a sweetroll in Castle Dour and I got three hired thugs and a thalmor hit squad for the Diplomatic Immunity quest, sadly they started fighting each other killed themselves while sat on a nearby hill and watched
