My mom is awesome, she'll listen to electro-house and dubstep with me, and absolutely love it. I swear she's more into it than me.

So do you and your parents share some interest in music? If so, what kind?

My mom introduced me to Coldplay, Keane and Manic Street Preachers which pretty much sparked my appreciation for rock/alt rock music.

My dad was at one point in one of those Pistols-ripoff Punk bands that nobody's ever heard of so definitely not him. My mom's into a fair amount of the good 70s and 80s stuff and she was never suckered in to the Osmonds racket (they were like the One Direction of their day but much more famous) so I guess we have some common tastes, but that's pretty much as far as it goes.

My dad introduced me to classical music. It's not that my library is now full of classical music, but I can certainly appreciate some Mozart, Bach,... sometimes.
My mom listens to Coldplay and other lame bands. I do not share this musical interest with her.

My parents schooled me in 70s, 80s and 90s music.
Let's see:
Manu Chao, RATM, Madonna, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed, Deep Purple, Radiohead, CAKE, Sonic Youth, and so forth.
In turn, I've been showing my parents what's cool right now.

My pops was always (in my lifetime) real big into Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Claptop & Cream, Joe Satriani, and later John Prine
Let's just say he isn't getting some of his Cream, Satriani and Prine CDs back

And a couple of his Hendrix vinyls don't sound too great after turn table scratching practice
Most of the music I listen to now is the stuff he hated growing up - funk, pop-funk ... a little disco

My mum is a fan of Bob Marley, The Smiths, some of Pulp, and even likes The Cure... so that's a bonus. Unfortunately she also likes a lot of that sappy 80's commercial pop music too, so that knocks her down a few pegs in the music department.
My Dad doesn't really listen to much music all in all, we always argue about what he does play around the house though.

My mom introduced me to Disturbed. I only really like a few of their songs. My grandpa on the other hand was a huge fan of Motley Crue, which i ended up liking a few of their songs.

Dad got me into reggae and calypso through a very steady osmosis effect. Mom got me into Fleetwood Mac and Queen.

My dad and I pretty much like the same music, we've been to a bit of concerts together. It's great! I don't always see him since my parents are divorced, and we are both busy practically everyday. So these concerts become some pretty good bonding time!
As for my mom, it's on a much lesser extent, there are some stuff her and I life, but not nearly as much. Which is fine, her and I still have a great mother-to-son relationship.

My Parents are the reason for what i consider my well roundness in musical taste. Before the age of like 10, all I had heard was oldies and classical music. I thank them for that, because if not, i'd probably be one of those narrow minded people who say "i only listen to this"
No you don't, you like it all, you just dont know it. I bet everybody has songs of random genres that they like. Doesn't mean you have say "Oh i like country" or something, but I bet they're country songs you like.
Follow?
Simon and Garfunkel FTW!
Speaking of which, the first concert I ever attended was The Beach Boys in Jones Beach back in....im guessing 93,94?
My father also got me into rock and roll which we consider "drag-racing music"
Nothin better then at a Stop light with some loser next to us and having "Separate Ways" by Journey playing.
Talk about getting PUMPED UP!!
Arrrgh I wanna hit the roads now

I share little common music interest, they know little of what I actually like, and I prefer to keep it that way, the less people know about me the better

Oh, God. You want the rockabilly story, or the one with Indochine funereal chants?

My mother introduced me to Queen , and its now my favourite band
Other than that i dont share many musical interests with my parents , i like a lot of Video game soundtracks more than actual songs so its understandable that we wouldnt share many interests

Hmmmm. I don't remember much about my father, but my mother was a straight up (American) hippie - into all that classic rock and psychadelic stuff. I'm mad for Jefferson Starship-and-et-cetera, The Rolling Stones, Santana, The Beatles... My mother had hundreds of records that would probably be worth a pretty penny today, had they survived.
But I actually share a lot of interests with my grandparents. My grandfather gave me all his old records, and I still love to listen to (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay; my grandmother loves her 30s and 40s big band stuff, and it's something I like to listen to on occasion as well. I always had wide and strange musical tastes and never listened to the music of my peers; in fact, I was not into music much at all until a few years ago, and not with the vigor of most people.

My dad introduced me to almost everything I love that is Rock-related. We went see RUSH in concert a year or two ago, and the Foo Fighters a year before that.
We're going see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in October.

My mother introduced me to the vast majority of the musical groups which I most enjoy and so our interests are nearly identical. Depeche Mode's music served as the definitive soundtrack of my childhood, the band being the first in which I was seriously interested after having enjoyed their tunes since... as long as I can remember, really. Nine Inch Nails were an early favorite as well (Pretty Hate Machine, primarily), around fourth grade.
While I grew more seriously interested in music my mother's massive CD collection proved a veritable treasure trove; upon her suggesting a group's work, I needed only to pay visit to the familiar cardboard boxes to be enlightened! Skinny Puppy, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Social Distortion, New Order, The Smiths, No Doubt, Bauhaus, Machines of Loving Grace, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, FLA, Nitzer Ebb, U2, Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, Pet Shop Boys, The Human League, Boy George, The Cranberries, Love and Rockets, KMFDM, The Psychedelic Furs, Einsturzende Neubauten, Sisters of Mercy, Duran Duran, Tiger Army, Christian Death, Virgin Prunes, Kraftwerk, etc.; all were either suggested by my mother or found within her collection of tunes. I've saved myself hundreds of dollars by borrowing her discs!

Me and my old man will listen to about anything, but we both love rock and metal especially 70's-90's stuff. ACDC, Motorhead, Miles Kennedy, Avenged Sevenfold, GnR. Iron Maiden, Metallica etc. etc.

I have my dad to thank for my love of rock, classic and metal. My mother and I, on the other hand, share no music interests in common. She likes country pretty much. Not my liking.

So you've heard how some mothers play classical into their stomachs in the hopes the baby will turn out a genius or something? A couple years back I got one of my friends at work a copy of Beethoven's Ninth when she was pregnant, both because I had heard about this weird fad and because she's a big
A Clockwork Orange fan. Can imagine her sitting there blasting Beethoven onto that gestating baby while obsessively watching slasher flicks. I hope we didn't create a monster.

Anyway, Billy Idol.

Both my parents like the same stuff and it's all rubbed off onto me. They introduced me to Radiohead (my fave band), Dead can Dance, Björk and so many more and my dad always sends me youtube links to new stuff he has found.
Me and my dad both like dubstep, dnb but I don't think my mum does. Actually now that I think about it I'm not sure if she does or not.

Do you listen to any house?
