Audit the Fed

Any surviving Occupyfags here will probably be happy about this one! The "Audit the Fed" bill passed in the House, with support from both parties. Basically, this is a bill that would force the massive central banks to open their books and stand accountable to the American people for where the money flows and how the Fed manipulates it. Now, unless the bloodsuckers in the Senate decide to "thread lock" the bill in a last-ditch effort to save their own hides, we may soon see the current tide of grassroots financial-skepticism bear fruit!

And if they do kill the bill, well, we'll have a list of names, and know who to run out of town. Thoughts?

I doubt this will change anything. Anybody who has been paying attention realizes that the Fed has been printing loads of money, regardless of what terms they use to couch it, and yet nobody seems to give a damn.

The story of the government's life.

Generally speaking gov't transparency is a bad thing. War to the knife with proposals like this that would leak gov't secrets to the general public, a public which usually misunderstands what it reads/hears and puts to bad use what it does understand. Assange's head on a pike, etc.

Just filibuster the thing and we'll move on. The extremely small but highly vocal Paulite faction can try to play it up with voters if they wish (write a letter to the editor? LOL), but monetary policy doesn't exactly rustle the jimmies of John and Jane Doe America. The message didn't even go over too well during the Rep. primaries when Paul was there pressing the flesh and selling the idea himself. Add to that that Fall semester is starting up for American universities; Paul won't have his unpaid army of impressionable drones to accost people with unwanted screeds, either. Yet another in a career-long series of quixotic crusades by the good doctor.

I was thinking of adding "Occupyfags will probably be happy about this one! Mr Zurmacht... not so much!" I was half worried you'd forget your opposition to openness and accountability, the most important principles necessary for creating and maintaining a free society (or at least, one in which the state is allowed to fill any role at all). Glad to see you're on the ball.

Anyways, you're sorely underestimating just how [&@%!] off John and Jane Doe America are right now. Thanks to years of being accosted by liberal-arts socialists about "the evils of rich people", the American public is more willing than ever to lash out against usurers, money changers, and the High Oracles of the Fiat God. Nevermind that the Fed is not merely a prosperous business, getting rich as the result of delivering real goods and services in a timely and desirable manner (boo! Hiss! I hate WalMart!), but a cabal of highly secretive, unelected, para-governmental boogeymen whose only function is to devalue currency and approve extortion-funded handouts to whomsoever is currently coziest with the neo-liberal System, divvying out the spoils of war behind their black curtains. Indeed, not since the fall of Wiemar Germany has a mass of serfs been so incensed against the money counting class. And, more importantly, the government knows the public's mood. That's why a bill that got a grand total of one supporter a scant few years ago, has now passed the House with flying colors, to the cheers of rats on both sides of the deck, eager to clean themselves off before the ship starts sinking.

The entrenched statists in the Senate may indeed filibuster their way out of things; after all, the assbackwards mishandling of our global currency stream was the brainchild of their Messiahs, Wilson and FDR, and in many ways, is the most important tenet of American politics today. To them, this is nothing less than a fight for survival. But the people will not forget.

And even if they do, there's always Winter Break...!

They may take our finances, but they will never take, our freedom!

P.S. Shhhhhh. Please don't use the "RP" word. I intentionally avoided mentioning that in my OP for a reason. Serfs hear "sticking it to the rich guy", they think "ooo, goodie! Let's do that!" Serfs hear "RP" and they think "oh no, conservatives! Please don't take our gay marriage away, Mr Elderly White Guy!" Crazy, I know, but you know as well as I do how the public, even the public here on UESP, is prone to misunderstanding things. Better to present the issue in a straight-forward, objective manner, than risk poisoning the well with irrationally pejorative associations.

If you were to anthropomorphize a corporation into a person, a psychiatrist would diagnose that person as a sociopath.
Do the same thing to a government, and you're dealing with a full-blown schizophrenic.

You want to tap toes with a schizo and think you're going to prevail if you stick to some silly concept like 'the rules'? Hah.

Double 'Hah'.
