Who do you think should be the new high king/queen of Skyrim? Personally I think Jarl Balgruuf would make a good high king.

Balgruuf the Greater, he's the only Jarl I would consider genuinely following (replacements included)
Loyal, but not stupid

I know Ulfric may seem unaccepting, or is who cares, he still beat the king in combat. No one comdems anyone for using normal magic, so shouts should be fair game to use in combat. Ulfric won the title, get over it.

No one was arguing that he shouldn't....

Anyhow I reckon Balgruuf or Brunwulf should be, I like both of them, they both seem to care for their people disregarding race and values.

I have to go with Jarl Balgruuf of Dragonsreach - he's usually the cornerstone of common sense for my civil war characters. He also gets stuck in to helping the Dovahkiin as soon as he realises how serious things are - but the biggest accolade for him tho imo is that he is not a politician at all - he's a good leader, which is far more valuable

tho he should probably put child locks on the kitchen/basement doors, i'd be a bit worried about what he has locked away down there lol

Let's see...

I think Elisef would be acceptable, as Kigh Queen, because:

a) She is well loved, and popularity translates into stability.

b) She is perfectly fine with letting politicians run the country, such as Falk in her own hold. This is something I can't say of any other Jarl.

c) Despite her political inexperience, Elisef does have a moral fortitude, which I see as an absolute necessity.

Balgruuf, too, would be a good High King.

a) His impartiality and neutrality in the war would make im the best candidate for a 'reconstruction' period of reconciliation between the warring sides.

b) Judging by his closeness with his Dunmeri huskarl, he doesn't seem like a racist [&@%!]... Which is what is the reason for my discluding several Stormcloak Jarls.

c) He has the strength to stand up for what he thinks is right, even when it isn't the easiest decision.

Brunwulf Free-Wnter, I think, would be more useful in reshaping Windhelm into a city worth living in than in administering a whole nation.

Ulfric's warmongering and racism make him a rather shoddy choice.

Most of the Jarls from the smaller holds don't have the sway to be relevant.

Maven is Maven.

Laila was wrapped around Maven's little finger, anyways.

Any Jarl of Markarth is a tad too greedy and racist for my taste.

Now, the BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOME:

Igrod Ravencrone.

a) She can see the future.
b) She calls vampires b*tches.
c) SHE CAN SEE THE FUTURE.

I keed, I keed.

For anybody that mentions how Ulfric gets title by 'The Old Nord Ways', should look at the larger situation. First of all, he basically brung a gun to a sword fight when he used a voice. While Ulfric was learning the Voice, the old High King was actually leading. Also the Old Ways are really only effective for a small, family-size population, like the Orc strongholds.

With that aside, I think Elisif would be best for the Empire and if you were to lean toward a reunited Empire. Balgruuf would be good for a strong, independent Skyrim.

the only reason ulfric wasn't politically involved in his earlier years is because the greybeards summoned him,a summoning by the greybeards is almost as big an honor as being high king and Torryg was still pretty young when he inherited the position of high king. Also using the voice in a duel isn't dishonorable, it's using the tools in your arsenal, if Torryg couldn't take a fus ro dah without staggering then he isn't strong enough to be king, the reason the empire calls it murder is because their weak(disputed on a different thread), and the voice is almost a forgotten art among the common people and military, had it been used commonly as it was in the first, and second era then it wouldn't have been considered murder.

The "Old Way", don't have conditions. The Nords are worried about forgetting Talos, they should worry about forgetting themselves. If you can't defend yourself, you shouldn't be High King of anything. Torygg was a terrible king. "What does my wife want?" or "Forget about everyone but the Blue Palace." And for those that say that his queen would be good, if she can't make rational choices on her own, she shouldn't be queen.

An excellent idea.

Also being able to win a fight doesn't make someone a better leader.

But losing makes you unfit. Ulfric can kill, so what? But Torygg could not even beat Ulfric, so he's worse. Torygg cared more about entertaining his queen than he did about the people of Skyrim. The best High King would be Balgruuf the Greater. Obviously, but I will never help Elisif become queen. If I love the Empire, I'll just do nothing. Elisif, or however you spell it, would be a terrible queen because she doesn't defend herself, she let's Tullius govern her. A true High Queen would respect Tullius's judgement, but would still make her own judgements.

That sums up my feelings for the man
Combine that with his likely dislike of war and probable conflict with sending men to their deaths, I can't see him ruling during war-times, peaceful times sure, but not now

Balgruuf, definitely. He seems like the most able Jarl in all of Skyrim, even more so than Elisif.

I want a person from the line Ysgramor to lead, that's everyone who's a Jarl except Ellisif. Out of this group, Balgruuf the Greater is the best.

Elisef is incompetent. You're selling Balgruuf short.

Justification of rule on grounds of heredity seems like a baaad plan to me. Just sayin'.

I wonder how Proventus Avenicci would do as a Prime Minister?
