What are your thoughts on drugs? (note: Obviously I have not tried any of these substances, so this is all just my opinions and/or things that I have heard. This is probably not accurate, and that is where I'd like your guys' feedback about your experiences and such. Not too graphic please, you know... the "family forum"... :P)

"Buzz" drugs:

Alcohol: Fine if used in moderation, like most things, can get out of hand fairly quickly from what I've seen.

Marijuana: I find it still a little odd, and taboo, probably from all the propaganda over the years, but I know it's not harmful... at all. Fairly easy to get into, cheap pricing, soothing effect, friends that also do it, etc.. I'm not too fond of it, but what do I know?

Hallucinogenic drugs:
LSD: Most of these drugs are not party drugs. More like "expand your mind, maaaaaaan" kind of drugs, ones you do once to see what it's like. So, LSD. Where do I begin? Apparently it does not act like other hallucinogens, in which they produce visual hallucinations, but rather distort what is already in the real world.

Mushrooms!: I don't even know, nor do I really care to see... I guess a sort of high, hallucinations, stuff like that... VERY strong... /hearsay

DMT: This one is very dangerous, but also the most potent. Massive hallucinations, reports of spiritual experiences while one it, high is shorter than LSD me thinks.

Other:
MDMA: Or Ecstacy. Commonly sold at raves, increased perception of everything around you, heightened empathy, feeling of social connection, makes music sound better, makes food taste better, makes lights look cooler, makes everything more complex. Dehydrates you, drinking water is highly encouraged, as to not suffer as much of a "back-end", something like a hangover, except all of that Serotonin that has been gushing through one nerve the entire time you were on Ecstacy, has now run out, and as the drugs wears off, you have very little Serotonin as you come off your high, producing a sometimes depressed and tired aftermath.

Cocaine/Meth/Heroin: lolnope

So yeah, that's my little essay for the UESP, contained with many facts* about all kinds of drugs!

*Been doing a lot of research on different types of drugs and their effects, just thought I'd share with you guys what I have gathered. Some of it may not be true, obviously the effects will vary with different people, so some people will disagree with me, and that's fine!
So yeah, what kind of opinions do you have on drugs, or preferably, experiences?

You forgot my favorite drug: caffeine! The world needs more public service announcements about the horrible, horrible addiction that comes from the drug caffeine! I can't stand it! It's ruined me! Ah!

The sad thing is I'm not even trolling. I legitimately have a caffeine addiction. Why do you think I drink so much coffee and tea?

I have a little blood in my caffeine stream. I am so used to it, that it now has the opposite effect on me; instead of hyping me up, it calms me down and helps me relax.

Of course. It's when the caffeine isn't around I get antsy. That's what an addiction is all about.

My philosophy regarding cigarettes: "Smoking smells like [&@%!]. I don't want to smell like [&@%!]. I won't smoke."

I smoked oregano once.

The only drug I'm even remotely partial to is alcohol. All the others are a little pointless. If you need recreational drugs to enjoy yourself then you shouldn't be allowed to have fun.

Most drugs are fine in moderation(as in don't do them every waking second and spend an entire weeks wages on them), however I don't promote the use of Heroine, Meth, and crack... way to addictive, way to dangerous, and way to grim.

Marijuana is the least harmful recreational drug, there is really no reason it should be illegal in Britain. Alcohol is much more dangerous, but even that ain't going to kill you unless you go mad with the stuff(can't really be banning stuff just because of weak willed people)... it's all about tax at the end of the day. Can't really tax the bud much due to the ease of growing it.

Hallucinogen can be a lot of fun in the right environment... same with Mandy. Like alcohol, I don't recommend going mad with em', but they are best used in places you can dance and move about anyway. No reason to be used indoors.

My view: Your body is your temple, what business is it of others what you put into it? Everyone should have sovereign rights over themselves.
The Tom wrote: If you need recreational drugs to enjoy yourself then you shouldn't be allowed to have fun.
They can enhance experiences, it's not like anyone is forcing you to take them every time you go out. Everything gets boring if you do it to much... just like alcohol.

I can only speak from my own experience, and in that experience, narcotics have only led to harm. I don't know or care whether the user's experience is enhanced or not; if I'm around people who have taken drugs, my time is ruined, mostly because I'm the one who has to clean up or do all the other things that the doped up goons won't or can't. It's selfish, and it's why I have the opinion I have.

Then you sir, hang around with a minority group of morons. The nicest, and funnest people I know, tend to be up for experimenting a bit and actually do care about not making a complete arse of themselves.

My cringe-detector's off the charts.

You did 'research' about drugs? 'A lot'? This is an 'essay'? I'd be incredibly surprised (as well as disappointed and ashamed) if anyone here learnt anything new from that post. Also, The Tom, why are most recreational drugs pointless? Does alcohol have a point? Do cigarettes have a point? What does it mean for something to have a point? Does it even matter? Also, since your first comment was about all other drugs, and your second comment was about 'needing' recreational drugs, your implication is that everyone who uses them 'needs' them. This is demonstrably false, since you could try drugs right now. You wouldn't have needed it, but most likely, you would enjoy it. It's not like all drug users are addicts waiting for the next hit.

PS: I'm loving the irony in the fact that because you were talking about the drugs he listed, you think that if you need DMT to enjoy yourself, you shouldn't be allowed to have fun. You may want to do some reading about DMT.

Well I'm sorry for having an opinion coloured by the people who inhabit my world. I don't spend much time looking at the big picture because I don't care about it. Call that narrow-minded if you want, but I'm trying not to get hurt by losing focus.
Dean wrote:Then you sir, hang around with a minority group of morons.
Haha, well, I guess I can't argue with that.

Alcohol: One of the worst drugs out there because of this moronic perception among masses that it's not a drug. Some people feel happy after it. Others angry. Some cry. Must be very addictive if people who cry after it still drink it. It's a very messy drug. Vomit, bad breath, p*ss all over the floor of nightclub bathrooms. Very realistic chances of death by direct overdose, choking on vomit, crashing a vehicle or from generally stupid and dangerous behavior that accompanies drunkenness.

Marijuana: Flawless victory. Users feel happy and mellow and aren't aggressive. Impairs driving by making you drive too slowly. Not physically addictive. Can be vaporized so no harm is done to any of your organs. Physically impossible to overdose from it.

Never tried LSD,mushrooms or DMT. I'm not sure if I'd be up for it. But seeing as all three are somewhat accountable for the music and art I love(stated by the artists themselves), I've only praise for them but appreciate that there is a possible danger in taking them if you have psychological issues.

Cocaine/Meth/Heroin: Never tried any and don't want to.

As for experiences with drugs, I've had only one bad experience and it was with caffeine(and perhaps alcohol). Drank 2 litres of Red Bull, mixed in with 350ml or Jagermeister, in the space of an hour and was convinced I was going to have a heart attack. Not pleasant. Haven't really drank caffeine since.

I refuse to take even asprin or any household drug like that.

Last time I had a pain killer was when I broke my arm, and that was 5 years ago mind you.

I say the lack of any form of pharmaceutical has done me good, I havent been sick at all this year.

That's... absurd. If you really wanted to, I guess you could make a point about not taking antibiotics and antivirals (I can almost see the logic, it just wouldn't be better for you - medicine exists for a reason), but painkillers? What's terrible about temporary pain relief? Also, your anecdotal evidence is useless when determining the effectiveness of you not taking medicine.

Who said I was disproving it in any way. Scientists have put their research into it and developed a product to benefit humanity (in most cases). I'm all for antibiotics to save lives, though people need to stop popping them whenever they have a runny nose.

Maybe that'll stop those awful virus resistance fighter ads.

Anywho, I just feel even painkillers for a headache is pointless, for me though. Its different for other people, especially kids and the elderly.

My stomach can't handle painkillers, so I don't take them.

Now, drugs.

I am a big fan of alcohol. It helps me past my social awkwardness, it mostly tastes good, and I associate it with good times. Not that I can't have good times without it, but being with friends < being with friends and drinking.

Cigarettes. So utterly pointless. They taste bad, they're bad for you, they don't get you high. What is the goddamn point? Style? You can stylishly smoke a cigarette every now and then without getting lung cancer. The benefits (read: virtually none) are far outweighed by the downsides.

Le weed. Never used it, since I don't smoke anyway and burning marijuana smells awful, making me lose all interest instantly. Perhaps I'll try it if I get a chance to ingest it after it's been vaporized, provided I don't have to pay for it.

LSD. Never tried, don't think I ever will.

Shroomies. I've wanted to try one of these for a long time, but I never got the right connections. Eh, if I get the chance I'll try one, but I won't go out of my way for it.

Ecstasy. Completely indifferent at the moment. I'll let you know if that changes.

Hard drugs. Yeah, stay away from that stuff.

Anyways, marijuana is not "not harmful at all". One puff won't make you eat a California Cheeseburger, but long term use does seem to lead to impaired mental performance, and cannabis contains more carcinogenic (cancer-causing) agents than a comparable volume of tobacco.

The biggest problem when discussing pot is that it's opponents go pretty overboard with the risks, while it's supporters act like it's God gift to the [&@%!] masses. Meanwhile, proper longterm research into it's effects on people is slow in coming... and ultimately pointless, since what matters to the people "debating" marijuana's legality isn't whether scientists conclude that it's a "good" drug or a "bad" drug, but that the populace comes to accept the idea that substance regulation falls under the purview of policy makers. You've got to stay on message and keep reminding the proles that the government is here to protect them from themselves.

Also, mushrooms make you grow really, really large, so you can break bricks with your head.

I disagree, but that's the beauty of opinions. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy drinking with friends, but I just find it much more entertaining if we are all sober and having a good time. It could be because I am a worrier, and feel like someone needs to be in control. When everyone starts drinking, I feel the obligation to be sober in case something happens. It's just who I am. I like for there to be order and control, and if we are all drinking, I get stressed worrying about what might happen.

It comes down to what kind of person you are. Me and the friends I was thinking of when I wrote that, are pretty natural drinkers. We're used to it, we know how much we can take, and even if someone drinks more than they can handle, there are others there who are sober enough to deal with it.

I have not tried tobacco, but recently I've found myself craving it. Probably due to a lifetime of second hand smoke from my parents. As far as others, I've used both marijuana and alcohol, as well as caffeine. Curious as to what LSD is like, but that's as far as I'd go. As far as what other people do, it's their own business, not mine. Once people are old enough to make their own decisions, they should be allowed put whatever poisons into themselves as they like. Real world examples show that treating drug addicts is better than imprisoning them anyway, and we could use a multi-trillion dollar enterprise.
