1.6 Horse Combat

I just got the new patch and I've having trouble controlling my horse during attacks. Also arrows miss most of the time.
I figured out the right click = attack right and left click left, but horse controls are buggy to begin with. Oblivion horse controls were vastly superior.
Does anyone else have a hard time to hit their targets?

It seems that a certain amount of inaccuracy wouldn't be unreasonable, considering that swords are of limited length, so you'd have to be fairly close, and accuracy on horseback is never what it's crack up to be due to the motion of you and respective targets.

The accuracy seems to be pretty random for me. Sometimes it's dead on centre, sometimes it's horrifically bad. I like the horse combat overall though.

I think it's stupid that you can't use magic on horseback

This. My Altmer only uses magic (I haven't resorted to a bow in ages) and when I tried mounted combat out on Frost I was incredibly disappointed. I mean, you can't even use staves.

And all the while two handed weapons are used with one hand.
And using a shield will cut into the horse's neck and other than the passive armor bonus, cannot be used for actual blocking.
So far the best use of horse combat is killing wretched wolves who would otherwise require a dismount to "remove".

If you have trouble aiming I think the slow motion perk would help. I don't have too bad of a time hitting in a melee.

I've never used a horse in an elderscroll game. I don't plan to beyond fast travel (I assume fast travel takes into account your personal horse as I always see Shadowmere next to me after it finishes loading). Skyrim is the first time I wasn't able to make my character FASTER than a horse (werewolf beast mode aside)

Even before v1.6, you could mount your horse with a Torch equipped and it would light the way as you ride around. However, due to a slight oversight on Bethesda's part, you don't hold it upright, but down in your lap. In reality, you'd be screaming in agony due to burning your own genitals. Now who at Bethesda missed spotting that, I wonder? The logical answer is that everyone at Bethesda is either blind, or has no genitals. Take your pick. Then again, they'd probably "fix" it by having NPC's repeatedly say, "Can YOU smell something cooking?"

I took a peek at Skyrim again to see what the horse combat was like.

Yeah it's pretty shocking and poorly developed. Whats there is buggy, and whats missing is sorely obvious.

It's not like horse combat is a hard thing. Since Red Dead Redemption did it perfectly, and Mount & Blade did it just as well with more weapon types.

Don't know why a huge company lile Bethesda can't code their way out of a plastic bag.

This update kinda buggered up my game , the horse combat is fine and all , but after i got this update , approaching any fire torch thing that look like the ones in draugr ruins causes everything to go to [&@%!] , my screen flashes yellow , the fires have a strange thing floating above them and the game slows down a LOT ...
damn it i was looking forward to this update , but it destroyed everything , and all for below average horseback combat ...

hit the start icon on the windows toolbar, and in the search bar type dxdiag, go to display, and it should tell you if you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card.

ATI graphics cards are notoriously buggy with Bethesda games in general.

The only way to fix it is
1. wait for new drivers for your video card
2. buy a Nvidia graphics card

what is a new driver ? how do i get one ?
cause getting a nvidia card might not be possible for me ... getting this one took long enough ..

Well the newest drivers are also doing this problem so you will have to wait for NEWer drivers, new drives can be found somewhere on ATI's site, I dont have an ATI, nor have I ever been to their site, so I dont know were on there thy put the driver downloads.

What do these drive things do ?
also one last question , before i got this update , everything worked fine , i didnt have any glitches like this , it was running perfectly , so if i could remove it , would it fix the glitch ?

Also , sorry for hijacking this topic , i just figured my thing was relevant because it was the same update , and it was the only topic i could find on this update

I'm actually enjoying horse back archery. I feel like one of the riders of Rohan while galloping around the plains sniping bandits and wildlife.

Slow motion perk helps a lot.

haven't really tried this much, does charging a foe and hitting them from horseback improve your damage?

cos it should

I don't remember sending anyone rag dolling when my horse slammed into them (if that's what you're referring to).

Which sucks, because that's the best thing about horse riding in RDR.

i agree, RDR absolutely nailed mounted combat and horses in general all those years ago

in mounted combat the speed of the charge increases the force of the impact, so technically a good connection should at least double the damage (tho i wouldnt be surprised if someone proved the force was much greater esp with a spear type weapon.. perhaps mythbusters could look at it)

Well, in the ye old medieval times, most Calvary used pikes, spears or jousts because it was A: Easy to wield and aim, and B: Very deadly indeed.

I remember in a museum once, on the side of a Calvary Knight's curaiss, was a little cup that the back end of a jousting lance's sat for ease of use.
