Skyrim is too easy

Playing PS3 version/Master difficulty
Is anyone else finding it way too easy? It starts off good up until level 15 or so. After that it starts getting real easy. It might be harder for a mage or a thief. I'm playing Warrior.
Heavy armor, smithing, dual wielding swords with bonus to critical and basics of restoration - my major skills and only perk purchases. Right now, at level 34, I am taking down Frost Dragons with only a few power attacks. I took down Alduin in the first fight with him in only several power attacks. It wasn't even hard.
I've got Lydia as a follower, but I figured the follower is not actually making the game easier because all the enemies are dead before she even catches up and joins the fight, so...
And it's not like I even have to try. I'm not good because I'm "doing everything right." I am wearing Ancient Nord Armor, which is one of the weakest sets available, but it does not even matter. I don't bother with enchanting my weapons, because I simply don't need to and refilling them with soul gems just seems like a hastle because of this. And I don't even have to buy potions or anything, what I find is enough to last me. Infact, a few bowls of mamoth cheese has got me through the hardest fights!
It's made the game really [&@%!] for me. I am tired of running around and "whack whack you're dead... run run run... whack whack you're dead..." there is no challegne at all. And it's not going to get harder post level 34, is it? Even the Dragon Priests are a push over...
It really ruined my Warrior play through for me. I was intent on getting to level 50 with Thief, Warrior and Mage characters. But I can't be bothered finishing the Warrior game when it's easy like this. I'm going to have to start again, play as a thief style with [&@%!] poor armor perks and focus on not being too hardcore with weapons in order to make the game interesting - make it more about staying hidden, coz if you are seen you don't have the skills to go toe to toe with the foes, you know?
Is anyone else having this problem? Warriors are too hard core and it makes the game too easy and thus boring?

I don't play on master difficulty but there are certainly some things you can do to reduce how easy you find the game. Firstly if you ignore the main quest and just do other quests you won't have any shouts which will make the game that bit harder. Second and probably more importantly you could make a char that focuses on 2 or 3 passive skills as their main skills, for example take illusion, speech and alteration or something along those lines. That way you have to rely on other means of killing opponents like turning them on one another with illusion or talking your way outta things and using followers. Limit how many skills you put perk points into.
My current character is a necromancer, I'm using basically using enchant and conjuration an that is pretty much it. So I have my necromancy spells and soul trap, plus a staff for dealing damage which I keep recharged through my enchant skill. I am also keeping a dagger as a backup weapon.
Or if this is all still too easy make an unarmored unarmed character that goes around beating people up with his fists wearing the most expensive fine clothing.

The main reason for the easy difficulty on a warrior is smithing, if you don't improve your weapons/armor at all it gets really nasty.

I also play on the highest difficulty level and I can tell you that the challenge level really depends on your character build.
Warrior builds that rely on heavy armour are usually easier to play then light armour builds because you are essentialy a tank that doesn't have to move and just wack the hell out of everything that breathes.
Light armour builds require you to be more tactful and be constantly on the move because the armour is made more for speed then protection.
If you want a real challenge then you will have to make a character that is custom built for it,for example, I made a Redguard Merc that doesn't use shouts or magic because Redguards in general don't view magic with kind eyes. Also,he's a vampire that constantly stays at the last stage of vampirism which makes fights in broad daylight or with mages that use fire quite the challenge.
[...]now, at level 34, I am taking down Frost Dragons with only a few power attacks[...]
Frost Dragons are pretty weak and Alduin isn't really that much of a headache to fight. The only Dragons that are truly challenging are Elder and Ancient Dragons (especially if they come in packs of two).

i find the game quite difficult in parts with fighter/stealth characters and mage/assassin characters so am not sure how anyone can say the game is too easy on master difficulty, but i have the 360 version.. maybe they wussied up the game for PS3 users as an apology for all the bugs? (j/k

)
if you are too powerful then you should try playing with a character with no health increases
i found with my 49th level character with 300 health that an ancient dragon does 300 points damage with one bite, so even when i thought i was out of the woods i was still in dangerous territory
imo low health is the easiest way of making TES difficult, it was in Oblivion and seems it helps balance things in Skyrim

Maybe it's because you're dual wielding because I'm using a similar setup (enchanting, smithing, heavy armor) with twohanded and it's not that easy on Master. My char is now level 38 and dragon priests, draugr deathlords are only a little bit challenging. But when I see an elder dragon I'm in serious trouble.

Oh no this is sad! Skyrim is a fantastic game with so much to do. May I suggest "crippling" your character somewhat? Bring in some issues that may keep him from being so intense in battle. Or perhaps this build has worked its way for you and now there is something else you can experience! My husband plays a battlemage and he still gets challenged it seems. One thing that has helped me from being overpowered is I have my characters do stupid [&@%!] that brings balance back into the game. Like my assassin freaking out in crypts and using fire instead of the tools she is good at. She gets bashed in a lot that way and it makes the game more interesting. She hates undead and the fear is so strong for her sometimes that she uses flames even though she doesn't do destruction magick. Just a thought. Good luck!

I just wanted to add: ME TOO. When I see an ancient dragon I'm seriously freaking out. It sucks.

I thought myself, playing as a Spellsword, that Skyrim was very easy and after 50 I was like a god. But then I took a trip to warlock and vampire dungeons.
Even if you have 50% or 85% magic resistance, they are nigh impossible if several Volkihar vampires or Arch-conjurers fight together.
But I think that dragons are easiest of bosses (might be because of dunmer fire resistance and max armor rating).

Some of the best fun I've had in Skyrim is dressing in regular clothing, taking Meeko, some potions, a dagger, bow and arrow...and just exploring the marshes and forests around my home in Solitude. "Collecting flowers" as I like to call it. Its very challenging, especially against dragons and chaurus reapers. You could try something like that.

Yeah, what the others said. Really depends of your character build and whether you use skills which are easy to exploit. I have personally never played as a pure warrior/tank because I find that too simple.
Playing as a pure assassin/thief really keeps one on his/her toes. Playing as a mage is really fun too.
Though I have to say my mage feels kinda overpowered now but then again playing as him is not just hack and slash. You have to keep moving and use your spells cleverly. If I'm not paying enough attention, he too occasionally gets his butt handed to him. Those master level warlocks are especially a handful and if I happen to get cornered by a bunch of Draugr Deathlords then he's pretty much screwed. Certainly keeps the game interesting. (I also have a mod which makes draugr fus-ro-dah as effective as mine... so if I get hit, I'll
always fly

. Makes them really fearsome because if you fight more of them at the same time, you WILL get owned if you don't use cover and such.)
I would have recommend some mods to you too but since you're at PS3 then... yeah...
I suggest you try out character builds you never normally would. Something TOTALLY new. Like, my current mage is very effective and uses spells which are my favorites (conjuration, destruction). However, I'm planning to create a mage who does NOT use destruction. Instead s/he relies on illusion and some other skills I almost
never use. Should be interesting.

I'll second that. I use mods to gimp Smithing, but consolers could just manually limit Smithing rating and perks (I think 65 rating without perks lets you upgrade to Exquisite items, which are powerful but not too terribly broken).

Warriors are easy to play. Nothing can be done about it except giving yourself worse perks or training non-combat skills.
Mages and Thieves are where Skyrim's fun gameplay is at.

The only shout I use is unrelenting force (and whirlwind sprint to get to treasure) anyway. I've got heaps but I've never used any of them. Simply, they're less effective than just whacking with your sword.
GoatLiver wrote:Or if this is all still too easy make an unarmored unarmed character that goes around beating people up with his fists wearing the most expensive fine clothing.
This is the point where you admit the game is either broken or only intended for 5 year olds.

Well with dual weilding you get a 50% bonus to damage on power attacks once you purchase the perk for that. When you do the power attack that does 4 successive hits (by holding down both left and right attack buttons)... well, you get the idea. A daedric sword in my master hand that is fully smithed to the max, plus a ancient honed nord sword in my left, again fully improved, cuts through anything.
Most people seem to be comenting on the build. And I know it's that. But the game designers were a bit short sighted when they were unable to make the game challenging for certain builds. I mean, the build I'm using was suggested in Prima Game Guide, it is the Weapon Master. You're supposed to use heavy armor, smithing, dual weilding and enchant. Only I swaped enchant for retoration basics (thinking it would make the game harder). I imagine the build I'm using is a common sort of thing for people to think of. It just sucks it's so easy. Now I have to start over, back to the drawing board. There are so many issues with this game revolving around basic designer retardation.

This is an issue for a strategist, but. If you purposely cripple yourself, it won't be much fun. The games I really like are where you have to pause it and really think, "What the f*ck am I going to do now?"
I mean, you have to think that as in to save your life. What you're suggesting is I pause the game and think what to do now, but do it to endanger my life rather than save it. If it's not a real challenge, then it's not fun. I'll try a different build, light armored stealth, and it better be harder. But there's no way I'm going to take my current build, and just take off all my armor and run through the crypts naked just coz I'm nigh invincible when clad in steel...

Covering the general subject of Skyrim being too easy: it's not. I don't play Elder Scrolls game for the challenge. That being said, of course I don't want them to be too easy, and they're not, they're just challenging enough, more so if you raise the difficulty slider. And no, I don't think Skyrim is too easy, it has a perfect difficulty, like Oblivion and Morrowind.

I adjust the difficulty based on how i use my perks. If you put all 5 of the baseline 20% hit damage increase perks in the weapons categories, you will eventually become very powerful. Either dont put perks into your main weapons or maybe just one or two.
Unless I am playing a character that does a lot of mining and creating armor from scratch, I wont put perks into smithing.

Did you read the threa? It
IS too easy, for the build I'm using.
Oblivion was harder, if you're talking about the whole series. But I havn't had a challenging fight in Skyrim since I was at a real low level, and falling off a cliff is a larger cause of death than combat is.

Want to experience difficulty? Go play Morrowind and try to not get frustrated with it on your first run. I DARE you.

We are all trying to help a fellow gamer here out of fun love for this game. No need to get feisty. Revisit Skyrim with a different character build. My "crippling" suggestion was meant more for roleplay purposehat brings depth to Skyrim is roleplay which can affect the way you then build your character. Just my pov. Mages and stealth characters are way funner to play. I like needing to have a plan or else I die. Good luck.

^^ I agree. But when you encounter someone with a bad attitude, "helping" is not always the first thing that come to mind.
