Morrowind + MGSO mod for MAC

Greetings,
I'm new to these forums (though I've been frequenting uesp for several years), so forgive me if this topic has been previously discussed.
So recently I've been running morrowind GOTY with the incredible Morrowind Sound/Graphics Overhaul mod on an old Macbook using a cider wrapper.
Not ideal, I know, but I don't currently have access to a high-end gaming PC, and I don't have a copy of windows to run with BootCamp, and running a virtual desktop program would probably kill my RAM, so for me cider is the best way to go.
Besides the obvious incompatibilities (most notably MGE, which sadly requires windows DirectX drivers), it's been running extremely smoothly. Even with almost 200 mods, including such framerate killers as Vivec Expanded, the Tamriel Rebuilt maps, Silgrad Tower, & a bunch of script-intensive mods, I've been getting amazing framerates, and haven't encountered any MAC-specific bugs thus far.
I assume TES community probably doesn't encompass a significant number of MAC users, but is there anyone else out there ambitious/insane enough to have undertaken running morrowind (and more specifically, MGSO) on MAC?

Can't help you, but building a MAC-TES group wouldn't be a bad idea.
Wanna try?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm taking the lack of response to this thread as further affirmation of my belief that there really aren't enough MAC users in the morrowind community for creating something like a 'MAC group' to have any kind of gumption or necessity. Thanks for showing initiative, though, Andere.

Must admit: seems to be the case.
Best wishes, skooma steve.

I also play on OSX, on my 24" Imac. Curious that your version has the Graphics and Sound overhaul on it, how does it work (I haven't discovered any way of installing it on OSX)? I admit that I spend more time on my cider wrapped version of skyrim at the moment, having pretty well done everything in the Morrowind, but I still enjoy going back every now and then.

Ninety percent of the mods included in the Sound/Graphics Overhaul are compatible - most of them are just retextures, some scripting fixes, that sort of thing. The only thing that's incompatible is the Graphics Extender, which sadly requires windows DirectX drivers. There are also some issues with the Morrowind Code Patch.
I've also tried running Skyrim through a cider wrapper, but my macbook doesn't have the RAM for it. It was running at about .1 FPS.

My imac is older too. I can just get by with all the image effects off, graphics on low, and a fairly low resolution, in addition to a mod which "optimizes" (read as: near butchers) textures. Worth it.
Interesting I've never really looked in depth as to all the mods included within the overhaul - I just look at the exe installer and sigh. I shall have to investigate more, although the main feature I'd love is the infinite draw distance, which is part of the extender.
Just know that when the time comes to replace your macbook, (and if you decide to get another one) you'll probably be well within the clear to play skyrim with decent graphics (and all the DLC might be released by then). There's the silver lining.

Ultimately, when I get that "new macbook", I'd partition my hard disk to run windows in boot camp, because I'm greedy and want the best of both worlds.
Oh yeah, and if you're sighing when you look at .exe files, check this out:
http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
It's a program called WineBottler which allows you to convert windows .exe's into mac apps. No need to thank me.

This thread inspired me registering for an account, as I'm a fairly recent Mac convert; I'm still acclimating. I never really got the chance to play Morrowind, though I've logged 3-400 hours between Oblivion and Skyrim.
I've only just begun the journey of figuring out how to run a modded Morrowind on my MBP (2.66 GHz i7, 8G RAM . . . should be fine, right?). Before this morning and this pot of coffee I knew nothing of wrappers, cider, wineskin or any of those methods. Just wanted to say that I'm a fairly new Mac user in the TES universe, so people like me are out there and hungry for more questing

I've heard Morrowind was the best and I'm not about to miss out. I'd just like to play it with some upgrades. I'll probably be back around with questions if I have any trouble when I actually dive in.

Hi adogover - welcome to the forums!

Make sure you introduce yourself in our
welcomes and goodbyes thread.
I'm glad this topic could inspire you to sign up for the forums, because it's a great community full of people who are still playing, getting back into, or just discovering Morrowind for the first time, so there's still lots to be said! For future reference, we try not to post in really old threads. This one hasn't had a reply for over a year. This is called necroposting. You can read about this in our
forum rules.
Feel free to start a new topic if you have any questions, and of course take place in our other discussions. If you have any questions you can e-mail me or another forum moderator and we'll be happy to help.
