Getting Bethesda to consider Porting Mods to Consoles

Ok so the PC has the modding community to add content make unofficial patches, unique armor sets, overhauls, etc etc. After you vote (OP needs to facepalm is just for all you trolls on the interwebz), Please contribute by giving a brief description of the selection process for mods that you would like to see. Thanks.

my idea would be:
The Official Unofficial Content Pack the top 10-15 mods that are balanced and add imersion and roleplaying to the game.
Item Packs (item/weapon mods)
Quest pack (the best of the best of the quests the modding community can make)

I guess the most difficult thing really is deciding which mods are worth making available to console users, should that be decided by fans by their popularity on the PC, or by Bethesda deciding which mods they feel add more of what they were intending to bring to the players? Lets get the conversation growing

You are aware Microsoft would force them to charge money for the mods?

Its the very reason Valve hasn't put...... well ANY TF2 items on the Xbox, to get mods on the consoles would mean people would have to be charged up the arse for them, which doesn't make Bethesda look good when PC mods are free.

You forgot to add The Unoffical Skyrim Patch to the list.

I vote yes, I have no idea how programming and all that jazz works but it could be made that we download the mod on the internet, put it on a usb device and plug it into whatever console we are using. Then some sort of program would install all the files in the right place, or we could do it ourselves with a mouse or something

I would love it. By seeing all the amazing stuff Oblivion had, I really get envious. I don't like PC gaming because I like buying a console and having what I need every generation, instead of having to upgrade my computer all the time, plus I don't understand a thing about all the technical stuff, so it would be really hard for me. Still, the PC community has it nice when it comes to TES games. I voted yes, although I think option 3 is more likely. To have them available, I'd say the mods should be divided into sections (quest mods / item mods / etc) and if a mod gets enough votes that say it's good, it goes on the PSN/XBox Live. Sure, they would need to find a way to convince Sony and Microsoft but all they'd need to do is convince one, because the other one would follow so not to lose sales. I only own a PS3 and would certainly would not buy an XBox just for Skyrim mods, but if I had both, I'd surely buy Skyrim for the platform that allows mods. And many people have both consoles.

I voted No since I don't play on a console and can already get the mods, I would prefer to see Bethesda put time and resources in to other areas of the game.

As companies are getting less confident on PC releases, I'm all for methods of making the PC a vaiable market for game companies. I believe custom-built, player created mods give the PC verison an advantage so people would switch over to it. As much as I hate Microsoft and all their money-milking ways, in my eyes, they're doing PC gaming a favor by not allowing free mods on XboxLive.

How do mods not allure people to want the PC verison? I know not everybody has the finances to buy a decently-build PC, but, it if there's a steady rate of converts, then it's making it's impact.

I would love it, too, but I also understand that it is possible that it never happens. And the reason for that is not Bethesda, console makers have their own interests in this subject.

I'm of the opinion that Skyrim is just a short step over the too-much-game-for-consoles-to-handle-reliably line. I'd love to have access to mods on the XBox, but I don't think burdening the vanilla console game with mods is going to work well, especially mods for textures/graphics, when you consider the consoles' limited and already pushed-to-the-max processing capabilities.

Yeah, I agree. A lot of people might play on the Xbox and PS, but PC is where the really good stuff happens.

i would be extremely upset for PC gamers if the console COULD keep up with PC versions of the game

i think armour and equipment mods would be very nice, and quests as well would be great, especially those which embellished guilds and storylines

the issue here is m$ make all released jump through hoops to get onto xbl, and charge them for it, so really by the time a mod has been seen to be well accepted by the community and passed for purchase, the game may well have undergone patches which make the mod unplayable, or delay patches and dlc Beth might have in mind (lol i can imagine Skyrim costing me thousands in m$ points by the time the dlc and mods had all been released)

the strength of the PC modding system seems to me as a non pc gamer, that it is a relatively open community which can adapt quickly to developments.. the opposite of what goes on in xbl land

so yes please, but i doubt it would work

tho as an afterthought, i would definitely buy the GOTY edition if it included these 'good and safe' mods, so perhaps Beth could use that as a way of getting more mileage out of the game in a few years' time

It is possible for them to do it right now but sadly microsoft would never allow it without charging an arm and a leg for even simple mods like making people pay $10 for a mod that just alters armor apearance. I am really glad I chose to buy it for pc.

I don't think mods are necessary or even worthwhile. I vote no.

I'd love it. Imagine if Xbox Skyrim had a Mod/Download system similar to Trials Evolution's Track Central, which in my opinion has vastly increased its playability and assures I don't get bored with the game, as is gradually happening with Skyrim for me.

There is the issue tho of sutff having to be supported through dlc/patches just for the very fact that they cant fit everything on a disc, if bethesda made a game STRICTLY for PS3, they could make a much larger more in-depth experience, companies that release games multiplatform run into the problem of catering to the lowest constraints (all u 360ers holding the gaming world back basically). Because 360 is poorly made and doesnt have capabilities like blu-ray technology (multi-layered discs) a LOT less can be put onto an HD-DVD then on a blu-ray, pc gamers could easily just download the difference that wouldnt fit on the disc as an at-release patch as could 360 but i think the difference is pretty big. MGS4 is a huge long game with 5 completely different parts and each act feels like a diffferent game entirely (scenery/setting/mood wise at least), and yes microsoft would make them charge for them because they have to use xboxlive servers and running servers costs money, they could set the price just to cover the cost of utilizing the required equipment to get the really good user-made stuff to the other players, i guess i should have mentioned earlier was that i personally (and also some of u must) believe that a small cost would come from utilizing xboxlive/psn i wouldnt hold anything against bethesda for charging just the cost to give it to us, if they were trying to make money off of other peoples work (like microsoft obviously does) it would bother me, but paying only what it cost them to use the service to get it to you, i think is at least fair, since they are taking the time to have the items ported even if they charged $0.99 or $1.99 (200-400 microsoftpoints(?)) id be willing to pay it.

If they were bundles of mods, and maybe if they did end up making some money off of it they could just split it up between the people who made the mods.

They could just put it on multiple discs. I know of several Xbox 360 games that have multiple discs. Forza 3, and FF14, to name a few. Also, I have to completely disagree with your statement that the 360 is poorly made. It may have lower capabilities than PS3, but the problems of the older 360's (RRoD, to name one) are all but gone. I've had an Xbox 360 Slim for almost two years now, and had absolutely zero problems with it. As for the 360 holding back the gaming community, I have to disagree again. Although I'll admit the PS3 is superior, the difference isn't very big.

OT: It would be nice for console players to have access to mods, but I think the only way it could be implemented would be as user-created DLC packs, instead of individual mods. Otherwise mod conflicts would be a problem. That, and Bethesda would have to develop something similar to the Nexus Mod Manager, for altering the load order. And somehow, I just can't see them doing that.

Would I like the ability to download more quests, weapons, armor, and locations on my 360? Uuummm...............YES! I doubt that it will happen, but I'd love to have it.

Seriously spot on brosef! I started playing Skyrim on my xbox -- but before the next TES game comes out -- I am investing in a nice PC to play it on.
