what do YOU not like about TES

Now before we get a thousand posts of " omg I luvz ze scroools! Y u make topic on forum for them?", we all obviously love the elder scrolls. However, there is always something that irks you in a series. It may be anything from a quote to graphics or lore. Just anything that grinds your gears.
For example- I hate how whenever a new game comes out there are always a bunch of people that seem to refuse to learn even the basic lore of the series so we wind up with a bunch of uneducated theories such as "I think argonians look like elves that have been deformed or something".
So, what makes you want to rant?

What makes me want to rant is how Bethesda always screws over the PS3 when it comes to DLC.
We got barely any of the DLC for Oblivion, and now we have to wait a month for Skyrim DLC because the Xbox likes to feel special and gets all DLC a month early.

The games are too short.

I like that.
But to be on topic - every game is easier and more "friendly" than the previous one. Better UI is great, but if they can't find the way to improve it without dumbing down the game, they should stick with the old stuff.

TRUE! DAGGERFALL SCARES ME! THE DUN... *ejem* the dungeons, the monsters (the scary sounds of those), THE SKILLS AND LEVELING... the feeling that you don't know if you are going to the rigth direction...
Let's play skyrim:
-ALL STATS REGENERATION. ¿Why would you rest, fearing of a creature waking you up?
-Sooooo simple skill-perk-constelation thing. Really? The complexity acheved on previous games, to that?
-Each level up means a choice of 3 stats. Endurance? Inteligence? Willpower, Strength, Speed, Agility, Personality?
-A MARKER THAT TELLS YOU, GO THERE.

This, I liked Morrowind's system of not having markers. The problem is that if I were to turn off the markers is that the game isn't detailed enough in the directions to make it plausible to play that way. The Clairvoyance spell makes this even worse, but you can easily get by without that.

Yeah, I've watched gix's Let's Play Skyrim and he got completely stuck with a quest, because the directions he was given were pretty vague and he forgot them, they didn't get logged in his journal and the NPCs were no help at all, so he couldn't find the quest location without activating the quest marker. In Morrowind they mostly tell you "go left, then right, then turn next to a big tree and follow the river south" - yeah, it takes some effort to follow directions like that, but it helps greatly with immersion, IMHO.
And the perk-tree in Skyrim is horrible. What is the in-game explanation for that? Your skills improve because you're using them, and every once in a while you somehow magically gain a special ability that may be totally unconnected with the skills you've been improving lately. So basicly - you spend several days sneaking, stealing and sharpshooting, and for some reason it makes you better at alchemy. What?

So many things they need to change from always active to toggle on/off.
1.Health regen- Magic and Stamina could reasonably regenerate, not your health
2.Quest markers- Pretty obvious why
I have to get to school, so I'll add more later.

I always wondered why health wasn't regenerating. When I have a wound, I try to stem the wound. After a couple of hours it is more or less healed. But the Skyrim non-magical healing is a little bit fast...

just got done covering some of this in other threads, but basically, since TES3, in-game balance.
Enchanters can enchant CE effects that my PC can't even with 100 Enchant skill.
Gaenor, 'nuff sed ...
since that game, the systematic dismantling, dumbing down and nerfing of everything they managed to do right in those games.
enchanting, spellmaking, levitation, teleportation (almsivi and divine intervention, mark and recall) in favor of "fast travel"
enemy and world "leveling", including but not limited to quest rewards. why am I stuck with a cheaper and weaker quest reward at level 5 or 10 than level 25 or 50 when the challenge and enemies are "leveled" and therefore equivalent? within a few levels my "awesome" quest reward is useless so what exactly was the point?
how much time do you all have? I'll just stop there for now. might come back and rant more later.

I think they've never gotten magic casting right. There always seems to be some sort of flaw in the magic, making it inferior to other fighting styles.

For the first one, I have no reply.
Perks actually add more complexity. How much character flexibility did you have when you just dumped points into stats that slightly altered your game?
All these stats are derivatives of the Health/Magicka/Stamina.
You do realize you can turn the markers off, yes?

In Bethesda's defence, it's because the PS3 is an absolute b*tch to develop for, by comparison to the 360 and PC.
Uhhh. I wish that there was a text-based dialogue to supplement the vocal conversation. I loved the sheer volume of conversation in Morrowind.

These ever existing bugs. I haven't played Skyrim, but I've heard tales about NPCs missing heads, and whatever. They have, generally, a great story, incredible environments, it's all fascinating, and I love the games I have, Morrowind and Oblivion, but why the heck the policy to leave the final game in hands of modders = fans who correct what Bethesda didn't bother to take care of? I think it's a disgrace.

Heh, to see the real disgrace you need to go back to TES2. There's a reason they called it Buggerfall...

Frequent falling through the walls and floors, diappearing NPCs, impossible to activate quest items, sound and music glitches... Don't get me wrong, the game is amazing, but it's a real test of patience as well sometimes.

I think it's like the concept of "sleeping on it."
I am a trainer where I work, meaning I not only operate certain jobs/machinery but often train new temps on them. One of the things I repeat over and over is that you'll wake up one morning, usually after a weekend, and suddenly find yourself doing the job much more easily than before, even up to the eventual point it seems like second nature.
That's how I see the whole perks thing, similar to how I saw the "sudden attribute increase" from previous games. It's the TES version of sleeping on it. You perform the same action over and over, and seemingly don't get any better, but you take a breather and come back later to find you're doing it much more easily.

Very true. For me it was easy because it was the first TES I laid my hands on so I didn't have something to compare it to.
Still, seeing all the people here complain about trivial things from Oblivion or Skyrim really makes me laugh because it's evident that all of you haven't played Battlespire.
I can honestly say that Battlespire is the worst, bugish, cluster f'''k of the TES series to date.

Hey! Battlespire is so cool that your character will start talking to creatures because of the absence of people inside the spire!
(Daggerfall was enough dungeon crawling... why do another game speficicaly[correction please] for that!)

I usually do that after a few weeks of being alone but that in no way makes me cool.
Please LauZ,rephrase your post because in it's current form I can't understand what you're trying to tell me.

Yeah, I get it, but I seriously doubt that your trainees find themselves better at ballroom dancing after you teach them to operate some machinery, and that's how the perk tree works - you can "buy" a perk in any discipline, not just the ones you have been using recently.

That it doesn't take account of natural ability, some people are born good at things and yes practice does make perfect, but I would like to have the option to buff 1 skill to start with.

You just some random schmuck at the beginning of Skyrim, having a buffed skill outside of racial buffs, doesn't make much sense.

But all the perks have a minimum skill level attached to them, so you obviously have trained and used the skill up to that point. So no, blasting things with magical fire doesn't let you craft daedric armor,
it was all the other smithing you did to get your skill up to 90 (with prerequisite perks) that did that. You get a perk every time you level up, and leveling up includes all that experience you gained from becoming a better Smith. Trying to segregate out only the skills you've used "recently" would be an unnecessary limitation.

I've said it before today on here, but equal carry capacity in Skyrim. Man, I detest it. The quest marker, yep, don't like it either, but as was mentioned by ZeRoc (who wins epic points for having Ghastly as an avatar), the directions aren't detailed enough to turn map marker off.
My biggest gripe about TES games since Morrowind is lack of stability and glitches/bugs. The games feel rushed. It shouldn't be "common knowledge" that TES games crash on the PC, but freeze on the XBOX/360. I'm not sure about the stability issues on the PS3. If any PS3 owner would care to comment on it, I'm all ears.
Another gripe of mine (and others on here I see ) is the "dumbing down" of the games. They get more and more "user friendly" as the years go by. I started on Daggerfall when I was still a boy, and let me tell you, those who never played it, it's freaking hard. Other than Men of Valor, it is the most challenging game I've ever played.

A PS3 user, you say? I can tell you that Oblivion would be constantly crashing when I would play it. Sometimes I would have to restart my system 2-3 times for every two hours. With Skyrim, It crashes much less often. In my total time of playing the game (almost 300 hours), its only crashed about 10-20 times.
