I think several hundred hours of my future life are suddenly going to not exist.
And I daresay this is fantastic. How about a global announcement?

Why do i have a nagging feeling that when an mmo comes out, there will be no more single player elder scrolls games >.>

I think Bethesda realizes that there are more than enough gamers who prefer the single-player ES games. (I mean, didn't Skyrim set new sales records, in record time?) Not too much reason to worry over them going extinct.
Not everyone wants to play ES online with a bunch of Horkers. (Irritable, dim-witted, slow-moving tubs of lard.)

This news scares me. I hope you are wrong rpbraley868. We will have to wait and see and if the fates are kind this will be glorious and not a blazing disaster.

I have to say, when i first saw the announcement, i immediately thought "Oh dear, this isn't going to work". But after thinking about it for a bit, i'm actually extremely excited now. Looking forward to the teaser trailer tomorrow.
Oh, and one more thing:
IT'S THE WHOLE OF TAMRIEL. Hello Black Marsh and Summerset Isle, and goodbye life!

No you don't. The rightful Guild Master is of course the rightful master of the UESP, with his lieutenants being UESP staff.

I hate it. This is so stupid...
It's all about the money and nothing else. Kind of disgusting. Yet another MMO. Don't we have enough of these already? Do you REALLY think there'll be ANY depth at all to your game experience in this on-line travesty?

What proof do you have to suggest that? The game will apparently have been in development for six years by the time the game is released, and the entire time it has been kept a secret. They only reveal it now that it seems to be good and ready. Those aren't moves of a group just after money. The taffing teaser trailer isn't even out yet, it'll be hard to dismiss a game entirely when all we've seen is art of the game, and confirmations of features we've been begging for (the entire continent of Tamriel to explore, for example).

It take YEARS to make a game like Skyrim. Do you REALLY think an on-line tit-[&@%!] fest game, created in.. what? maybe three or even six years?... covering the -whole- of Tamriel will be even remotely as interesting as Skyrim or Oblivion or Morrowind?
And the worst part is: THIS IS GOING TO WORK (for them anyway) because people are stupid and will jump in. Zenimax will have its subscribers paying religiously for years; they'll CERTAINLY repeat the winning formula learned from Blizzard and keep the game rolling for years with expansions and stupid statistics and item tiers, and IT WILL KILL THE SERIES.
And yes, if you like the Elder Scrolls, you should be VERY SCARED by now because Zenimax owns Bethesda and they might decide a new single-player Elder Scrolls would be competing with their MMO Elder Scrolls, so there won't be any...
Jesus Christ.... Elder Scrolls was a one-of-a-kind... now it's lost... I wonder how freakin' long it will take for a new IP to come up with the same gameplay characteristics to fill the gap. And all the LORE we've come to love? Forget it. This is World of Elder Scrolls now, baby.
It reeks.

You're right. I'll be Dark Lord Gideon, scourge of the Sea of Ghosts. No guilds for me, no sir.

Attaboy, Blackfire.
In all seriousness though, I'm a little annoyed that this is actually happening. The problem is, I most likely won't want to play the game, but there will most likely be lots of lore that we haven't heard of yet in this MMO.

If nothing else, we'll at last have a legitimately Elder Scrolls-related activity to take part in as a whole.

Let's hope this doesn't turn into a bandwagon sort of deal...

And if Zenimax continues to add stuff while Bethesda makes actual games and DLC...
Never play any game but the Elder Scrolls...Ever again.

I REALLY hope it looks and plays nothing like world of warcraft. almost every mmorpg that has come out lately is a thinly disguised WoW clone. They do it in hopes it steals players away from wow but in the end the games just die. Something a little closer to ultima online would be a little better i guess. It would have more of an elder scrolls feel.

Yeah, that's another thing that [&@%!] me off. Zenimax doesn't have the right to make an Elder Scrolls game, even if they can do it legally. I just hope that this doesn't become too big of a priority for their marketing department, and that Skyrim remains as their primary current game to develop for.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Consider that they've actually been working on this since Oblivion, while Bethesda made a game as good as Skyrim at the same time.
The only thing they really need to do to avoid a WoW clone is really just make it a little bit more like dark fantasy, and given that the main plotline is the closest thing to the devil trying to envelop Tamriel, I don't think it'll be much of a problem.

I have become increasingly irritated at this idea. In fact, I am just growing angrier by the second. I feel betrayed by a promise that was never made. Alas, what is life!
