How do these things actually happen? Ironic injuries.

Well, now that i'm at home for the next week I had time to have a look back at how I broke my ankle. Okay, for most of the time I was playing football I was playing on the wing, I had clattered, banged and smashed into most of the players, and I was starting to run out of energy, so I thought I would play in goal for a bit so I wouldn't get injured.

Within ten minutes I did a goal kick, I landed and my ankle twisted, I heard a crack, then before I knew it, my friends were carrying me to my brothers car.

Has anyone else had 'ironic' injuries, or injuries where you just don't know how it could've happened?

I was playing a game of cricket one time, and one of the other fielders didn't hear me call for a catch. We collided with eachother. Now, he hit me on the right side of my body, which dislocated the AC joint in my shoulder, but somehow, I managed to break 3 fingers on my LEFT hand. I don't know how I did it, I didn't even notice until about 15mins later when one of my fingers hurt, and I noticed that they were all pointing in the wrong direction.

You wanna hear a good one? When i was about 11 i climbed up a tree holding a rock, it was a big round rock, slightly smaller than a persons head. Anyway; the inevitable happened, I fell out of the tree. My hand was sandwiched between the floor and the rock and i broke it in 3 places :/

I've broken 3 legs (left once, right twice), Both arms, my hand and 3 fingers :). I was a very silly child.

I remember when me and my cousin, both young at the time, I was around 7, he was like 5, and we were throwing rocks up on my grandma's hill. We were throwing them right next to each other, and when I went to go do something, I ran into a rock, point blank range on my forehead, close to my eye. Fortunately I looked like Harry Potter for a few days. 8)

I remember getting a football to my gut.
The part that makes no sense- my NOSE started bleeding.

So if you get hit in the nose, that means internal stomach hemorrhaging?

There was this one time that a group of friends and I were trying to learn how to cartwheel because we were cool like that. So we clear this room of all the chairs and things because our parents did not want us to hurt ourselves. After making the room as safe as we could I walked out and into the door frame, gaining myself a black eye.

Oh and the only firearm-related injury I've ever received was a muscle strain trying to pull the stuck charging handle. That wasn't my fault, though, you have to reach all the way across to the right side of the weapon with your left hand and then pull on it with your little finger. And those things can really jam up.

Glad to hear it. It's all fun and games until someone gets their brain transplanted with an alien one.

(M)(I)ronic injuries you say? I can deliver.

In chronological order:

At age 5, I watched a cartoon. It was about how the human body works, and the nerval system was portrayed as a bunch of blue little men taking messages from other little people and sprinting to Mr. Brain. They did this with their head lowered, making a sound not unlike Runs-in-circles' "Ninininini". Of course I had to imitate that, and I did; in a shopping mall. So I sprinted forward, head first, not looking around me, and wouldn't you know, someone opened a glass door right in front of my head. The glass door won, my head didn't. Much blood, an ambulance and a very painful stitching operation followed. That was the first time I cracked my skull.

The second time was when I was 7 or 8, I forget. I was running up the school stairs, where someone had left a window open. The window had an aluminum frame with pointy edges. I rammed my head into the pointy edge. My head hurt and I was a bit dizzy, but I had the important mission of notifying my teacher about something in the office, so I went on. When the teacher saw me she nearly had a heart attack and asked me what happened to my head. I frowned, touched my head with the palm of my hand and looked at it. Much blood and stress ensued. I was sent home and made to stay there until my head stopped bleeding at the slightest disturbance.

Somewhere around that age I sprained my neck (at least I think that's what happened). I was running around the table instead of doing my homework and fell on my back. Hospital, a weird, incredibly large bandage thing around my neck for two weeks. Good times.

Now the best of all:
How I broke my ankle. Me and my family went to a picnic party in the mountains (yes, just some random location in the mountains) and there was a small hill with a tree in front of it. The tree had a branch conveniently placed ahead of the hill, perfect for playing Tarzan and swinging on it. I did that a couple of times, pulling "stuns" as I let go. The last time, I didn't manage to catch the branch, and hit the ground from a 5 metre fall (the branch was about 3 metres above ground), but nothing happened. I was only slightly surprised. I took a step, my foot slipped inwards, and crack my ankle was broken. Was in a cast for 2 and a half months.

I don't think this one qualifies for ironic (it might mind), but this is the injury that nearly ruined my sporting life: Three years ago I fell of my kitchen roof (don't ask why I was up there), I literally landed on my head, the two friends that were that at the time told me I had landed on my head, but as I got up from the floor after being unconscious for a small period of time, my knee buckled and I fell into a wall. I tore most of the tissue, ligaments and tendons in my knee, and my kneecap was displaced, it then locked in place, I have to say that was one of most worrying point of my life (so far), I never thought I would be able to play basketball or (ironically) football, even now if I try a full game with my team, the coach always has to sub me off about half way through. Can't run as fast anymore, can't run as long as used to, and my knee buckles if I try to run for too long.

How about this one: I got a herniated disc in my neck on Saturday night/Sunday morning at 1am while about to sneeze. Felt the sneeze coming up, prepared a kleenex, BAM horrible tearing pain through my neck and shoulder and arm. And I didnt even get to f*n sneeze. Horrible debilitating injury from building up a sneeze :( on powerful narcotics from the pain clinic at the moment, might have to get neck surgery

Wow that is incredible (in a very unfortunate way I'm sorry to hear this). Did you breathe in really deep before the near-sneeze?

Do note this was during high school.

There was a big hill at my first high school, and it was always used to slide down on muddy days.

For some reason we start throwing each other down the hill, starting with the anorexic kid who was thrown many times and came off without a scratch.

Come my turn, and first go I break my collar bone. Even worse, it was only a few weeks before Medieval day, and I couldn't get my chain mail finished.
