Britain's soon going to have an equal marriage law passed at some point as well. There won't be any marriages till 2015 at least and a man that was once given the role of representing this nation's compassion and respect has formed his little idiot's club opposing it, so the change isn't going to be any time soon, but it'll happen, easily.

I'm going to play the Devil's Advocate here, and remark that isn't it interesting how, these days, being, in any form, anti-gay marriage stigmatizes you as some terrible human being who clings to a backward, outdated notion, and that you must be some kind of hater of civil liberties and personal freedoms?

Such people usually wish to impose their views upon others. This suggests that they do in fact hold a certain disdain for personal freedoms and civil liberties.

One could argue that forcing people to accept gay marriage despite their objections is imposition of a view that curtails personal freedoms.

We're not forcing anyone to accept gay marriage. Such an argument is inherently flawed as all we do is encourage those who wish to be allowed the same rights as others, be allowed those rights. Those who do not wish for gay marriage will obviously, not take part in it.

Grudginly, yes. I would also move to another state which would appeal more to me.

Good for you, America. It's just a shame that in the land of the kangaroo we often twiddle our fingers and do nothing until the Americans have done it first. But I doubt we are too far off.

Wow. I guess that's a big deal for the couple hundred thousand or so gays living in Maryland. Well, the ones who want to get married. And don't feel like moving a few miles north.

That's not really the interesting bit. The "debate" on gay marriage, or at least how it's framed and presented to us plebs, is completely one-sided. When everything from schools to Hollywood to the punditboro is neck deep in pushy, self-righteous identity-politics, the biggest surprise is that there's anyone left who dares to voice a dissenting opinion and actually lives to tell the story!

Good for them. Maybe if we're lucky other states will follow suit.

The British Conservative party is not like that... For one David Cameron actually backs Same-sex marriage. I believe a majority of the Conservative party do infact, you gotta remember that today's Conservatives are not the same as they use to be.

Oh, and nice work Maryland. A step in the right direction.

The fact that there are places where same-sex relationships are punishable by death makes me sad.

It is my firm belief that such people are not at fault, only misguided. They should be reformed. The homophobics, that is.
