Mass Effect: Inquisition

It is approximately 2 months before the arrival of the Reapers on the Planet Earth. The Systems Alliance Navy has reported the loss several commercial and naval ships near the orbit of the Planet Aphras, and an unusually high amount of merc activity has been detected on the surface of the planet.

In response to this, the Systems Alliance decided to send one stealth-based ship onto the planet, crewed with a highly trained strike team filled with operatives of many origins, to find the reason that the mercenaries are so interested in the supposedly useless planet.

You are a part of this strike team. You are an Alliance Soldier, a soldier of fortune, or anything in between, and you have taken the job of riding the frigate SSV Vienna into heavy merc territory, to discover what they're up to, and if possible, stop them.

For your characters, they can be of any race and background, but make sure that they'd fit in with the story.

I suppose I'll put my character first as an example.

Name: Tharen Zephyran
Race: Turian
Gender: Male
Class: Sentinel
Military Rank (If Applicable): Spectre, formerly 1st Lieutenant
Age: 35
Physical Appearance: White skin, normal Turian head-fringe, blue face markings
Clothes/Armor: Wears normal medium Turian armor, painted white, blue, and black. Has a Visor for both eyes that helps in aiming and other tasks. The holographic interface for this visor can be turned on and off.
Weapons: M-98 Widow Sniper Rifle, M-8 Avenger Assault Rifle, M-12 Kassa Fabrications Locust Submachine Gun, M-6 Carnifex Heavy Pistol
Fighting Style: Tharen prefers the style of a sniper, picking off enemies easily with his immensely powerful sniper rifle. When out of ammo for his sniper rifle or when there is no good time to use it, he prefers to start with his Assault Rifle, then goes to his Submanchine Gun, and finally to his pistol. If his enemies aren't all dead at that point, he either looks for dropped weapons or thermal clips, or goes up-close with his double Omni-Blades. His biotic abilities are used when the situation calls for it.
Personality: Tharen was not raised among other Turians, but rather, upon Illium. Because of this, he is not like other rigid Turians. He is still dutiful and is concerned about the group more than himself, but he likes to take liberties and think outside the box. He's a very nice person if someone doesn't give him a reason not to be. To his enemies, he prefers to take a no-nonsense attitude. He can be too trusting at times, and this can lead to trouble at times.
Background:
Spoiler:
Tharen was born on Illium, to two Turian Weapon Shop owners. He was exposed to Eezo in utero and developed biotic abilities, which he got training for until the age of 17, when he ran off to join the Blue Suns so that he could do something that mattered.
He met a quarian named Mirei'Sera nar Cerelai, who was an indentured servant of the Suns. They spent much time together on assignments, and both began to realize that the Suns were not what they had thought them to be. After five years of serving in the Suns, they banded together to destroy a large Blue Suns base, and ran a Frigate into a Blue Suns base and escaped to the Citadel. In their escape, their vessel was damaged, and Tharen lost his left arm.
Mirei was able to give him a cybernetic arm, and it was implanted with an AI to stabilize the arm and keep it useful. After their escape, they lived on the Citadel, until Tharen decided to sign up for the Alliance Military to once again do good in the galaxy.
Misc. Info: Tharen has a cybernetic left arm. It functions perfectly as an arm, and can even be mistaken for a real one without close examination, but it functions because of a potent AI, known as A.D.A.M (Artificial Destabilizing Arm Maintainer). This AI is known to comment on situations whenever Tharen does not turn the sound off.

Name: Nessala Calsir
Race: Asari
Gender: Mono-Gendered
Class: Vanguard
Military Rank: Asari Commando
Age: 212 (Maiden stage.)
Physical Appearance: Looks like an average asari. Has light blue skin, would be considered good looking by human standards.
Clothes/Armour: Black and blue light Asari made armour with no helmet or visor.
Weapons: M-6 Carnifex heavy pistol, M-12 Locust sub machine gun.
Fighting Style: Likes to get up close and personal. She drags her foes closer, holds them in place, slams or throws them with her Biotic powers. She fires upon them using her sub machine gun or heavy pistol.
Personality: Nessala is both educated and is kind hearted most of the time. Trys to avoid harming innocents if it is possible. However she has no problem with killing and does so if she believes it is for a greater good.
Background: Nessala was born on Asari homeworld of Thessia and grew up there. She came from a well off backround with memebers of her family becoming diplomats. She joined the military at a young age and over time has increased in ranks to the level of an Asari Commando. Was sent off by her commanders some time ago to work in coalition with Alliance forces.
Misc Info: She is from quite a wealthy backround so has plenty of money. Fears disappointing her family.

This character okay or do I need to edit it?

Age: 32 (Not sure on age for Turians)
Physical Appearance: Tarreth is tall and has slightly darker skin. He has a small, almost unnoticeable scar on his right hand.

Turians have a life-span roughly equivalent to humans.
Anyway, I'm not sure on the size of this RP, but I guess no more than 10 or so.

by Red Guardian
Name: Karnak
Race: Batarian
Gender: Male
Class: Shock Trooper (Vanguard)
Military Rank: Ensign
Age: Late 40's
Physical Appearance: Tall, 4 eyes like every Batarian, dark blue skin and an athletical body.
Clothes/Armor: Medium Mercenary Armour manufactured by Ariake Technologies. Color is dark red. No helmet.
Weapons: Judgement Pistol IX (Batarian State Arms), M27 Scimitar Shotgun (Ariake Technologies).
Fighting Style: Pistols at long range and Shotguns up close. Is a master of CQC.
Personality: Smart, skeptical and ruthless. He became a little light-headed when he left his native planet but mercy is a word that is not in his vocabulary.
Background:
Spoiler:
Was a merchant, a slaver and a drug trader. Had many deals with the Krogans, Vorcha, Volus and some degenerated Salarians. Occasionally smuggled drugs into the Citadel and Omega.

When his planet got attacked by the Geth he forced himself to find another job. Became a mercenary for the Blue Suns and quickly earned a high rank within them. Joined the Alliance because he thought it would be a good oppotunity to make a large sum of money, and because he knew some shady people there...

Misc Info: Omni-Tool on right hand was a prize from a fellow enemy.
Spoiler:
I see many Vanguards around here, and one of the characters was a Blue Sun just like mine! I had this character planned sometime before... Do I really have to change it or it's alright? Thanks.

@RedGuardian - It's fine. All up to you. There are people in the games who come from similar backgrounds. Doesn't mean that it can't happen in the RP as well.

by Eltee
Name: Sylia Q'Lir (Kah Leer)
Race: Asari
Gender: One and only
Class: Sentinel
Military Rank: Commando
Age: 25
Physical Appearance: A rather narrow, unassuming young Asari. Sylia is of about average height, and although she possesses the good looks of her species, she would never be classified as a great beauty. She would be more likely to be classified as simply pretty. She has light blue skin, tinged by lilac, a small, aquiline nose, darker violet eyes, and (almost) perpetually upturned purple lips. Her lilac face is adorned by violet markings on her cheeks and reaching down to her sharp chin.
Clothes/Armor: Light black 'Duellist' armour.
Weapons: A Heavy pistol.
Fighting Style: She has never technically been in conflict, and is a newcomer to the active wing of the Commandos. She has been trained to use her biotic abilities and her technical skills to support her squadmates.
Personality: Always enthusiastic, although her attitude is unlikely to last through her first taste of combat. She is a bit shy around newcomers, although she tries to endear herself.
Background: Sylia was born on Thessia, the daughter of an Asari commando and a Quarian mechanic. Her 'Mother' was killed when she was scarcely three, and her 'father,' a female Quarian, raised her. She studied at a technical institute on the Citadel, intending to follow in her Y chromosome mother's footsteps. However, due to her high test scores and growing mastery of biotics, she was contacted by the Commandos, and accepted. The mission to Aphras will be her first.
Misc Info: She always wears a leather cord with two small pendants. One is her X mother's half-melted dogtag, and the other is a shard of her Y mother's ship in the Fleet.

Name: Aurin Lennesian
Race: Turian
Gender: Male
Class: Engineer
Military Rank: Corporal
Age: 22
Physical Appearance: Possesses dark, blue-gray 'scales' adorned with white paint. Eyes are of a bright green color, features are broadly spaced, and teeth are noticeably crowded. The Turian’s height is a bit below average and his build unremarkable, though he possesses a wiry strength.
Clothes/Armor: Dark flight suit with green accents/ Level III Thermal armor
Weapons: Employs various pistols, submachine guns, and explosives.
Fighting Style: Aurin prefers to use his current environment to his advantage, exploiting weaknesses in the enemy’s positioning through the use of drones and projectile explosives.
Personality: Aurin is quick-witted and curious, an adaptable individual who is quick to snap on others when offended. His demeanor is generally reserved, and in conversation he may appear cold; he is ultimately kind-hearted, however, and generally means well in his actions.
Background: Aurin, raised upon Palaven, has served as a member of the Turian military since the age of 15; his duties originally involved only communications. His serving with Systems Alliance members is intended to ensure Turian interests in the area are respected, despite Aurin's displeasure in being assigned to a human vessel.

2 questions before I make a sheet.

1. Does this require any prior knowledge of the Mass Effect series?

2. What races are playable, and what are their specialties?

1. Mass Effect is a series that is really hard to understad into if you don't start at the first game (at least it was for me), but don't let that stop you from trying. It's a great series.

2. There are a lot of races, but the few you can expect here are;

Humans - The usual.

Turian
Image
Commonly, Turians are excellent sharpshooters and make amazing soldiers due to their society having a very big emphasis on community service.

Salarian
Image
Salarians have hyper-active metabolisms, which makes them think fast and act fast. They make excellent spec-ops agents, scientists, medics, engineers, and other things, but their metabolism makes them very short lived, rarely living past 40.

Asari
Image
Asari are a long-lived, mono gender race. They each live for about 1000 years, and they all have inherent biotic ability (kinda like telekinesis) without the aid of technology. They have the ability to mate with any gender of species, taking the DNA of the partner to randomize the genes of the offspring, which is always an asari. Due to their long lifespans, they have a lot of time to train themselves in the art of war.

Krogan
Image
The Krogan were a technologically un-advanced species, until they were discovered by the salarians who gave them access to more advanced tech. This tech allowed them to better survive on their vicious homeworld of Tuchanka, which led to a massive population boom. Their population swelled so highly that it erupted into a war with the rest of the galactic community (which, at the time, was just he Asari, Salarians, and the Turians), and the Turians were forced to deploy a Salarian-made bio-weapon called the Genophage, which rendered only 1 in 1000 Krogan pregnancies fertile. Their rebellions have died down since then, and they are able to live among other galactic species without being feared as dangerous rebels.

Quarian
Image
The Quarians lived on a planet where all diseases were at least partially beneficial, so their immune systems dwindled in comparison to other species. They were forced to leave their homeworld when their inventions, the robotic AI species known as the Geth, rebelled against them. Now that they can no longer live on their planet that supports their weak immune systems, they are now all forced to wear environmental suits so that they don't catch diseases and infections. No one knows what they look like under the masks.

Batarian
Image
Not much is known about the Batarians. They are usually regarded as space pirates and slave traders, but a few live normal lives outside of the galactic council space. They are rarely seen in council space at all. A great number of them join merc groups.

Drell
Image
The Drell are a reptilian species that lived on a planet so arid that remembering where resources were was absolutely essential. As a result, all Drell have near-perfect memory, and some of the slightest outside interaction can trigger powerful memory recalls. They were rescued from their planet by the hanar race once it became uninhabitable, and now most live in arid dome-cities on the rainy planet of the hanar.

Those are all the important bipedal races. If you need more info you can try the Mass Effect wiki.

What class would be a TF2 Scout-like class? And are there High-Tech Plasma Baseball Bats?

Re: Mass Effect: Inquisition

by Unionhack
There are three basic archtypes for the classes.

Combat, Tech, and Biotic.

You can take each of these archtypes and either take them alone, or combine two of them.

Combat = Solider, which is your generic run-and-gun guy that utilizes different ammo types and grenades to defeat enemies.
Tech = Engineer, which uses combat drones and blasts of cold/heat, along with hacking AI opponents to control the battlefield.
Biotic = Adept, which uses biotic abilities to throw enemies around. The best class at killing things without taking a shot.
Combat + Tech = Infiltrator, which is a class that uses optical cloaking to maneuver around the battlefield undetected, allowing him to snipe or use tech abilities without being in much danger.
Combat + Biotic = Vanguard, which utilizes a special biotic charge to slam into enemies. Usually combines this with a shotgun and CQC to deal heavy close range damage.
Tech + Biotic = Sentinel, which is a class that protects itself using a layer of tech armor which can be detonated at will, and can also use biotics to deal damage around the battlefield and tech abilities to manipulate enemies.

Any class can use any weapon, but you're more likely to see a soldier, infiltrator, vanguard, or sentinel using assault rifles, sniper rifles and shotguns than adepts and engineers (though that doesn't mean they can't use them).

No, there are no plasma bats. They've pretty much evolved beyond melee combat at this point, but there are still punches if CQC is necessary.

Vanguard is probably the closest you'll get. They can get up quick, slam into the bad guys and then shoot with a shotgun.

There is what is called an Omni-Tool that can have an Omni-Blade which is used in CQC attacks.

Name:Barela Dalevan
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Class: Vanguard
Military Rank: N/A
Age: 25
Physical Appearance: Skinny, Lightweight.
Clothes/Armor: Set of lightweight full body armor.
Weapons: M-23 Katana, M-3 Predator
Fighting Style:Dash in fast, Shoot close enemies full of bullets with shotgun, pick off distant enemies with pistol, dash out as quick as possible, repeat.
Personality:Hot headed, brash.
Background (Can be revealed in the story, but at least put one in spoilers if you don't want to reveal it right away): Barela Dalevan ignored his parents warnings about going into mercenary work, but went off anyways, after "borrowing" his father's shotgun and heavy pistol. He was turned down by every merc group for being "too hot headed and brash", but that he was good with guns, and getting in and out of places fast. After he heard about the stealth ship being sent in, he signed up for it, hoping not to get turned down like with the merc groups.
Misc Info: Pretty much like the TF2 Scout.

Some guns from Mass Effect
http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Heavy_Pistols
http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Shotguns

In case you want to use one of them. Being inspired by the scout is fine but I wouldn't recommend making your character a carbon copy of him.
