You are a pirate captain who is just starting out a crew. You have obtained 25,000 ($100,000) gold dubloons in your crimes, and should put that money to good use. You guide your crew or even join up with other player's crews to form alliances. Your money and crew members will be tracked on the OP for you.

All crew members are 120 dubloons for hire, and that is all you need to pay them. You don't need to give tghem shares, but must equip them with everything needed. Everything can you purchase can be sold for 1/2 of what you bought it for, unless it is 100% broken.

My original plan in the beginning was everyone to be part of one crew. Then, I was aided by Eltee and this idea sounded better. I think we could find a happy medain with various crews under one alliance, and each player controlling a "clan." How does everyone stand on that?

Okay, everyone will be under one banner, casually named, "The Alliance" Their are clans under The Alliance, which each person is a captain of. If someone doesn't want to have their own group, they can join someone else's crew. I wouldn't mind bringing anyone on my boat.
I would rather everyone be under the alliance, but there can occasionally be a form of 'clan war'

I updated the OP with everyonone's clan and crew, and the dubloons they had left.

Mmh. Pirate 'alliance?' Dubious. Sounds like it kinda defeats the purpose of having multiple ships. I would personally much rather have a single ship than a pirate 'alliance.'

You are right, no alliance.
At anytime, you can change between a captain of your own boat and a crew member of anothers, incase you think you made the wrong decision, or just want a change. You can even start your character over again if you get bored with him/her.
