Sexuality

Right, this is a topic that always amuses me when it gets discussed, and I figure we've got a whole new bunch of members to reveal their wonderful thoughts on it, so here goes. Discuss your sexual orientation, your opinions towards current issues with sexuality such as gay marriage, the gay 'agenda' and hell, whether you think homosexuality is good or bad, and provide some sensible justification for it if you're against the non-hetero ones or you'll get ripped apart. Of course, no sensible justification for that actually exists so you might not want to be militantly anti-gay here.

w00t, first vote. And first post.

I swing both ways as far I know, though my hetero side has been prevelant. I've only ever had something with one guy and that lasted only one night.
I'm very supportive towards the LGBT community and homophobia [&@%!] me off.

Fun fact: This is the fourth time this topic was made.

Pansexual here.

Looks are nice, yet overrated.

If you want me to elaborate, just ask.

I'm bi with a preference for girls. I'm open enough about it. I don't run around telling everyone i'm bi but if it is relevent to the conversation I might mention it. What annoys me is the attitude of some people that sexuality is just 2 binary things. You are either gay or straight, gets a bit annoying.

Where's the zoo and necrophiliac options?! Balloonaphiles? Plushies? Come on. This is the 21st century, I thought we were passed all this narrow "gay/straight" stuff!

As a proud robosexual, I'm going to hold off on taking the poll until a wider range of sexual preferences is recognized.

That might have been clever, except for the fact they are all FETISHES, and not sexualities.

Can you know what you are before you try it? You say you're pansexual, but I doubt you've been in a situation with a transgendered person. Liking someone and wanting to have sex with them are two completely different things. Looks are indeed nice, and I'd prefer someone looks good if I'm to get into their bed. You don't converse while you're having sex.

So? More importantly, what's the difference, and says who?

The only difference between the term "fetish" and "sexuality" (if there even is one) lies in our own constructs. Saying that something's "a fetish" is simply a way for people with (currently!) socio-normative fetishes to marginalize and trivialize the sexual experiences and desires of those who don't fit nicely into the neat little box society has built for us. We all seem to assume that homosexuality and bisexuality somehow qualify as a "proper" sexuality, don't we? That is, at least, the basic conceit of this thread, one which nobody's yet challenged? Well, don't forget that up until very recently, homosexuality was itself considered "merely" a fetish, and worse, it was clearly a harmful mental disorder! The only reason we're not jumping up and down saying "But Veck! Being gay is a fetish! You can't self identify as a homosexual in the same way that you can self identify as a God-fearing straight!" is because Western academia and the media that transmits the fickle fads of the universities has decided to embrace and champion the homosexual cause.

So what? Are you saying that people can't self-identify as, say, a zoophiliac, in just as deep and personally profound a manner as one can self-identify as gay? Why should their experiences be marginalized and ignored? Just because you choose to call their desires a "fetish"?

Alright Doros. I'll just hack this forum's base code and alter the way it works so that I can extend the poll to 100 options and make sure I cover every possible minute branch of sexuality available in the world. Great idea.

By all means, if you have a preference that isn't in that poll then talk about it. Just don't complain about me not completing the impossible task of extending a meaningless poll to cover enormous minorities.

Just make a 'Other' option

Well, you don't have to cover EVERYTHING. There is, quite literally, an infinite amount of potential sexual communities around which one could attempt to construct his or her self identity, if one was the sort of person who thinks that identity politics are necessary at all, and who buys the notion that what sort of hole you like to stick it in is even a sensible criteria for artificially separating your sociocultural identity from that of your friends and neighbors. BUT

But, but, but, you should at least acknowledge this in your poll. You don't have to list every possible expression of sexuality (although you did spend a great amount of effort splitting hairs between what could have easily been expressed as "gay, straight, bi"). However, it might help if you listed a couple of the more "common" (or at least, the more commonly talked about)... *ahem* "paraphilias" that might be present on this board, as well as including a miscellaneous option so that community members who are part of a true sexual minority don't feel discriminated against. I'd be fine with the "badger" option myself, but not everyone can have a sense of humor about how weird their kinks are.

-edit- Yeah, tl;dr what Raven just said. :P

Why the hell is personal sexual preference something we should be touting around in public, anyway? You can be proud of your sexuality all you want, I just don't want to hear about it/read about it/see it. Yes, I don't like seeing gay couples kissing in public, and that's because I don't like seeing ANY couples kissing in public. You might have reason and rightness on your side to try and convince homophobics and skeptics that you're normal people who deserve equal rights, but you have NO justification for making anybody have to watch.

Yes, I realize no one's advocating that here(not at the moment, anyway), but that's my two cents, so take it or feel free to leave it.

Dude, I wouldn't use 'furry' as my sexuality. Because A: there's no gender implications. and B: it sounds awfully stupid.

Sexuality is your preference to the genders of someone of your own species mkay, not your preference to whatever fuzzy animal. That's called a preference.

I'm heterosexual. I don't have a problem with gay people etc. I used to have a friend who is bi, but he is basically a massive I-shouldn't-say-it-here, but I have no problems with other sexualities, you swing the way you swing, that's all.

I agree with this. I'm straight and I don't march around, rubbing it in. Your sexuality should only be important to you and whoever you are coupled with.

This argument of "I'm not rubbing it in like them" annoys me. Gays don't kiss in public to show that they're gay. They kiss in public because they want to kiss.

I'm not against kissing, it's a show of affection. I'd just rather they'd not do it in front of kids, as should heteros.

I'm fine with a bit of kissing, as long as it doesn't look as if one of them is trying to snack on the others face.

Society shouldn't shelter kids from stuff as lightly risque as kissing, since they'll be doing it themselves one day... Though thats offtopic.

Haha, it's funny because we thought you were gay, ahahahahaha-
I'm straight. I have the utmost respect for all sexual orientations. Like Mars said, gays don't kiss in public to flaunt their sexual orientation, they kiss in public because they want to kiss. Would you make fun of a straight couple showing affection in public?
