do you play the good guy hero type because you feel that is who you are? or perhaps is that who you feel you would like to be?
or on the other hand do you like to be the bad guy because it is polar opposite to who you are outside of tamriel
do you play similar types of characters in most games?

I play the character who thinks he's a good guy but keeps giving into temptation to get more daedric stuff.
What!? So what if I'm a paladin with Oblivion Walker on my resume? I just NEEDED it in case Alduin comes back in a DLC later!

I play a character that prefers to be the best at everything in the arts of magic, stealth/espionage, and combat.
I would do the same too if

My mind tells me to kill everything in sight, but I restrain myself in fear of ruining quests and story lines.

I actually always do this. I act the way I want and make the choices I would were it real life. And I always pick the same skills that suit my playstyle or just ones I personally enjoy using.

Nope. I adapt to my character's personalities when I play them . . I roleplay the character, not myself.

Mine does. I kill everyone I can and keep them in my basement

Same as witchery. I find that more interesting. My main is all things that would've gone well with the empire, but he couldn't get over the whole lopping off his head thing. Hence I played him through the war for the Stormcloaks. He supports them despite his detesting, for many reasons, Ulfric.
My assassin thinks that theft is "wrong", and will have no quarter with the thieves guild.
Discovered through play that my heavy duty tough as nails fighter, hates taking orders. So joining the empire is out. He didn't take the execution orders badly, but he won't be bossed around. So if he's not taking orders from the LEGITIMATE, in his opinion, government he's certainly not taking them from a two-bit, puffed up, little lordling, like Ulfric.
Not playing now but have plans because I think they'd be interesting to role play - A straight up Nord fighter. Which way is right for him in the war? Then the interesting one - A Thalmor spy. He's deep undercover for the dominion. A chance to be really, really bad.

On my Assasin Dunmer, i am a bad guy who kills almost every one he sees alone.
My Imperial warrior is a good guy.

I always end up playing a thief / assasin character.
I just find it more interesting / more fun to sneak through a dungeon and sneak attack the enemy rather than charge in as a warrior/mage and have to just slaughter everyone. (Thats the original reason I got bored of Oblivion, I played as a barbarian and every dungeon felt the same).
I help out everyone, and I think I generally do right but I steal all the time, and I do like to kill people. There have been Dark Brotherhood contracts I didn't want to do but its just fleeting regret. And if someone wants them dead then someone wants them dead...

All of my characters have a bit of me, so they reflect some aspects of my personality when I'm roleplaying. Also that's the reason, why I cannot make real assassin/thief and defensive warrior characters.

more often I play making choices that I feel I would normally make. that being said I steal and kill in game when I know I can get away with it. my in game conscience is a bit looser than my real one. ha

I just want to enjoy the storylines, the scenery, the fights, the game in general and i don't really care about good or bad or who am i helping.Sometimes i like to make my character eat and sleep, most times i don't.I enjoy both travelling by foot(you can stumble upon a bunch of random stuff) and fast travelling (teleporting ftw).My general plan is a) Learn how the game is played b) Complete self-imposed quests (like completing a full collection of alchemical ingredients and storing it in my house) c)Improve the character to its limits (check) d)Do all quests.A demigod (because that is what the dragonborn is) can be a thief,a mage,a warrior, champion of a bunch of Daedra and Aedra, the Gray Fox,Champion of the Arena and a skooma junkie at the same time. e)
Vardark wrote:My mind tells me to kill everything in sight, but I restrain myself in fear of ruining quests and story lines.

You sir are right. But since d is complete then i
MUST KILL EVERYONE. f) Take the ritual sign and control every hold in Skyrim with your armies of zombies
MUAHAHAHHAHAH EVOL PLAN
(evol= silly and evil (kinda like civil) )
The funny thing is i didn't really answer your question, but i wrote this and i just don't want to delete it.

My playstyle almost always reflects my real personality, unbound by the freedom of being in a game -- Chaotic good, but with zero patience for antagonism. I tried to kill the Imperial advisor to the Jarl of Whiterun for the "Nord nonsense" quip he makes, for example, but I loathe the morbid God-complex-having DB, etc., and I never kill NPCs who haven't crossed me, even if there's loot to gain, and no negative repercussions.

My Dunmer battlemage is kind of an anti-hero. He loves helping out others but isn't afraid to take on a few brotherhood contracts for some cash. He figures if someone wants you dead you got it coming. Also he looks a lot like Machette! Lol.

Yep, most of my characters track my own personality and its evolution over time. Which is basically a progression from naive
Good Guy Greg to
Knight in Sour Armor. Problem is, most games present options in predictable Manichean good/evil dichotomies, making moral complexity difficult. I'm often fighting as much against the developers' moral assumptions as monsters in game.

I always thought that if i was from that time i would have been the heroic type so i play that type of char. However i have been lured to the dark side for fun now and again, after all they have cookies. The bad guy wont be my main, that's usually a paladin or the like.

I'm always a good guy in games, finding it hard to be evil. In games like KOTOR and Skyrim I can't bring myself to kill people that didn't ask for it. Much like in real life where I find it hard to actually make myself hurt someone.

not at all. I do all quests regardless of their morals. However In real life I am a religious (Christian) person who can't stand the thought of evil.

As am I, but this game is an RPG. You're not meant to be yourself.

I know. but I am strange. i don't play elder scrolls like an RPG. I play it for completion and seeing all the quests and story I can.

Like I said, I'm strange. The most roleplaying I do is being downright meticulous in decorating my house with things found on my adventures (kettles filled to the brim with gems for example)
I'm probably one of the only ones here who doesn't play RPGs like RPGs
