Morrowind: Should I or Shouldn't I?

Back in the 90's, I got a game called Redguard. Was the first time I'd played a game based on the Elder Scrolls (which I'd never heard of at the time), and loved it. Was a lot of fun.
Many years later, standing in the store, I saw Oblivion (the game of the year addition, so it had all the expansions). The name "Elder Scroll" stirred a memory, but I couldn't place my finger on it. It sounded interesting so I bought it, when home and played it.
Or rather it consumed all of my free time!

It got to where my wife wondered if I was ever going to get off my computer and what was so darn obsessive about some stupid game.
So I installed Oblivion on her computer......and it was quite a long time before she got of the computer!
Anyways, have played it off and on since 2008. Each time I play, I find something new, or find a different way to play that I enjoy. When Skyrim came out, I did a dance of joy, and my wife is bugging me to get her computer upgraded so she can play it too, heheheh.
But looking back, I realized that I somehow missed getting and playing Morrowind. I've heard people gush over it, and that even today it's a lot of fun to play, and since we use PC's there is so much fan content for modding the game, that it's still worth every penny to get the game.
So the question is: Should I? or Should I not? Condsidering how both Oblivion (which I've have all sorts of mods with it, my favorite being the Better Cities mod) and now Skyrim take up so much of my time, I'm wondering if I NEED to add Morrowind, hehehehehe. Afraid I might not ever unplug again!

I'd say go for it. It's an incredibly enjoyable game, just don't expect the same level of hand holding and conveniences that are in Oblivion and Skyrim.

Sounds a bit like the man with the needle asking,
Should I take this?
Being an immensely emotional and non-rational man, I can only say "Do the feel-good". And may your days be prosperous and your outcome plentiful...

It's your choice, whether or not you want to lose a bunch of your free time and be late for work all the time, but I'd say go for it. It's an extremely addicting game, though, so be warned.

I was sort of in a similar situation to your own--I had played Oblivion, and am currently still playing Skyrim, but also wanted to give Morrowind a try. I did, and I do not regret the decision. It is an outstanding game--in fact, I find that it captivates me more than Skyrim. I don't know...there's a certain something about it. You should definitely go for it.

Do it. The game is more hardcore and difficult than Oblivion, and Morrowind is my favorite game of all time so I highly recommend it (if you pass on it you're going to hell).

same here as many others. I'm now officially a "convert". actually, Morrowind was my first experience and love with the TES series, but I was a hardcore console fan preferring my Xbox version. I bought Oblivion for PC and loathed it, which only cemented my PC aversion. I didn't like any of the mods and preferred the simplicity of the console controls. I had a "purist" mentality that I wanted to play the game as it was intended by the developers. I did get very frustrated at times with Morrowind on the console though. One major drawback was not being able to lug my console around with me. finally one day recently I broke down in an exasperated fit and downloaded Morrowind from Steam to my laptop. I have never been happier with the game. It's almost like starting all over again. There are just a few nuanced and subtle differences that I find make the game SO much better and more enjoyable. For one, I can actually WALK now and don't feel the constant incessant need to dedicate a skill to Athletics to try to help speed up my levelling. On the Xbox controls, it was pretty much dead stop to full-tilt dash, running all over the map. there was no easily managed way to toggle run/walk mode on or off. second thing I noticed was the opponent damage bar now works with magic attacks as well as melee and ranged. nice, but perhaps the most significant of all, I'm not pulling my hair out in frustration trying to level my characters to sixth level in order to access the Tribunal expansion area of Mournhold. this was a constant rage on for the console version of the game. I'm still exploring so not sure what other subtle differences I might yet find, but so far my old console has been sitting gathering dust and I have yet to look back. oh, and now I can take it with me everywhere and play at will. mwahahaha consider me "converted" (although I still hate Oblivion on the PC and still think it might be better on the 360).

You should definitely give it a try. Despite the old graphics and game mechanics its still very enjoyable and immersive. It's my favorite game in the Elder Scrolls series.
You should read the wiki article Morrowind For Oblivion players if you haven't already, so you know more or less what kind of changes to expect. Going from Morrowind to Oblivion is easy, but it's a bit more difficult the other way around. Hopefully it will help you make your decision!

Definitely purchase it and waste more of your free time! It's an amazing game and there's tons of interesting and exciting adventures.
But yes, don't be surprised when you might get very frustrated at the fighting mechanics in the game. It's much different and takes more time than Oblivion or Skyrim.

You'll probably lose your social life, your job and all of your free time.
And it'll be worth it.
