Ok so I did find this link http://uesp.net/wiki/Tes5Mod:Save_File_Format and played around with the save file a little bit and I was able to at least pull out the magic, header size, header, and all that, but I need to get the item count for all achemy ingredients in my inventory and I cannot figure out how to do that. How do I use this save file to find the item count?

I'll look into it for ya grundy923, get back to you tomorrow on if some easy techniques work out

EDIT: Well I did some thinking. I used the console to give myself 20,000,001 lockpicks. This should mean that the savegame requires 4 bytes to save the value. Well ... I searched the save for it as a 4 byte word and 4 and 8 byte floaters, both signed and unsigned, and didn't find the value (in rev hex obviously). Hmm...

Some of the entries contain compressed data. You might have to uncompress the data before seeing the specific byte sequence.
Any idea what algorithm the data is compressed with?
