Lack of 'hardcore' mode

Did anyone find a lack of a hardcore/realistic mode dissapointing? I would of loved a hardcore mode. Tougher enemies, less gold to make, increased shop prices, food, drink and sleep meters, crippled limbs, visible (But not actual.) armour damage etc.
I think a realistic mode would of helpped with role play and immersion. What do you think?

Like in Fallout: New Vegas, except better. Got it.
This would be an awesome edition, especially with the food recipes now-a-days, but I think that Bethesda might have been avoiding this, to make sure that The Elder Scrolls didn't become Fallout or something.

I understand that they don't want it to become fallout, after all, it's an adventure rpg, not a survival adventure rpg. But the food, drink and sleep meters would only be there to help you roleplay. The mentalitiy behind would be; Oh, time to eat/sleep/drink better find an inn to setle down for the night, not Oh, time to eat/sleep/drink, better find someplace soon or I will die. I think the lack of sleep/food/drink should kill you, but have effects like blurred vision for sleep, no stamina regenration for food, and no health regenration for drink. That way, it makes the game more immersive, without killing your player midway through a quest.
Also, I wish betheasda would add soft drinks to the game. Loads of wells yet only booze and potions to drink. Of course, you could always drink poison, but that wouldn't be very good for you; too many calories.

Exactly, the idea would be optional, so if you like want to just do quest and stuff, that's fine, but many players get prolonged life out of the game by roleplaying, but if there is no need to eat sleep or drink, then you are likely to dismiss it, until you realised you haven't slept, drunk or ate in ages, and that for me is the sole immersion breaker for role playing. I would love to see bethesda realese some DLC, that doesn't add new quest, but just improves game mechanics, and this could be in the dlc.

If a hardcore mode were implemented into the game, it would definitely be a great thing to try out and experiment with. I think it would serve it's purpose for more intense gameplay well, but there may be cons that I will not list.

Please tell me the cons. I have not found many problems with the idea, and would love to hear feedback from the other end of the spectrum. Of course, hardcore mode would be optional.

likewise, I never played casual mode on FO NV, why would I? and "not being FO like" is a really lame reason to drop a very good addition to any game.

Thread title mentions "hardcore" mode, while the poll is labelled "realistic" mode. In my mind, they aren't the same thing at all, so I'm not sure how to respond.
However, on the topic of "realism", you're playing a game that allows you to cast magic, slay dragons, and is inhabited by elves, beast-folk, werewolves, vampires, and undead dead things, and people are worried about the "reality" of eating and sleeping?

And sorry, but I just can't bring myself to accept that milk & cookies and naptime are elements of "hardcore" gameplay.

Realism in the context of food and drink and realism in the context of mythological animals/phenomena, are two completely different things.

Yeah I mean even if our own medieval folklore was true they would still have to eat you know.

Not in my mind. Realism is realism. What you guys really want is
selective realism. It's the old
having your cake and eating it too thing, which is just another way of saying
I want everything my way, every time, all the time. Not a realistic mindset at all.

Well, you know, it really depends. There are a lot of different ways to approach a video game of TES caliber, and the trick is that you
can play "hardcore" and become totally immersed -
if you want to. And if you don't want to, well, the option is there for that, too. While a lot of us like to roleplay and eat and really treat the game like a realistic extension of our minds, there are just as many who play for achievements and just for fun. And besides, a really realistic hardcore mode dictates that when you're dead, you're dead - don't forget that.
These games give you the option to play how you like, no matter what it is; and, for PC gamers, there's the ability to mod so you can get what Bethesda didn't give you. The possibilities are endless. But it's not Bethesda's job to introduce that. It's their job to give a wide open sandbox for a wide variety of people to play in, and they do that each and every time.
So, I'm going to go with Evil-i here. You already got the cake - just eat it!

dudes, its just a mode that was used in fallout new vegas that worked really well, thats all
it wont affect you in any way if you dont turn it on, and applying simplistic logic to it makes no difference to anything
but anyway, the thing is bethesda have no experience with it, it was modders did it for fallout, and obsidian who implemented it in new vegas,
which is probably why we havent seen it here, nothing to do with eating cakes or selective realism or whatever

Then in your mind, a realism mode should revert Skyrim to a real Scandinavian map complete with 21st century technology? I think not.
I say it again, in gaming, there are two forms of Realism. Factual and Physical.
It is the Physical - what we can see, do and what we are affected by. That is what Hardcore modes and general talk of Realism are based around.

Thank-you, you've just validated my point about selective realism.

Isn't that a bit much? all that is being asked is for an
option to improve the game for roleplayers (the game is a role playing game...)

yeah probably, I'm so damn tired I can barely connect the dots in your last post.
To revert back to the OP, I'm more interested in adding/upgrading whats already there. Like a faction armour system similar to NV, and Vampires and Werewolves being overhauled and expanded upon.

You're already free to play this way if you want to. There are many who do. Having this feature as a selectable option is entirely moot.
Right now, this game is hinky enough as it is, it doesn't need more optimisable content. Besides, if it
was included, people would find more things to carp about. Things along the lines of
I don't want to eat three times a day, once is often enough or
10 pm is too early for my forced bed time.
This game gives you the freedom to play however you want to.

My only reason why I don't particular think Bethesda should have bothered with a hardcore mode, is because its not particularly relevant to the genre and tone of the game. Fantasy adventure is *not* post-apocalyptic survival, and what works very well for one doesn't necessarily contribute to another. Other than that, go ahead, knock yourself out.
Oh, and Bethesda never did have a hardcore mode. New Vegas was made by Obsidian.

While it was published by Bethesda, so I guess they might had a say in it.
