The awkward moment when...

Well, I didn't really see such thread around so I think we should have one. The purpose of the thread is to share your most awkward(fail) moments in the world of Morrowind.

I`ll start off with something that I`m doing every-single-time and I still don't learn of my mistakes:

Going to get a quest from someone, clicking as quick as possible through the dialogue menu because I`m lazy to read the dialogue and everything ...

1 minute later

... Opening the Journal so I could actually go through the dialogue and see what I have to do :x

 I know the feeling, I think I was used to Oblivion too much when I began playing Morrowind, so I didn't really pay attention to directions, and then had to use my journal to double check when I realised I hadn't really taken in what I was skimming over, or only got the gist of it.

I always get sidetracked by stupid quests with followers that render no reward, but take me away from the quest I am supposed to be doing. Not really a failsome habit, but one I normally end up regretting

Stealing valuables from under NPC's snouts then unwittingly selling them same item a few seconds later. That Grand Soul gem looks familiar...

YOUVE BEEN EXPELLED FROM MAGES GUILD
YOUR CRIME HAS BEEN REPORTED
NOW YOU DIE

Haha, that reminds me of this one time when I had stolen the orcish armour from the Orcs in Caldera and I was doing some quest that I knew would bring bounty on me, so I decided to leave the armour in one of the closets in the Mages guild in Vivec.

Upon my return I decided to take my armour back with me ... the concequences were the same as for you Fidel.

Another thing that I love to do is running around without buying pots. Each and every time when I`m in a cave, I`m all like " [&@%!] , I must buy magicka potions when I get back, I must do it, my life depends on that!"

Later on in some city: Oh look, I must sell this ... and that. Let me repair my armour. Shut up Ordinator, I ain't no scum. Oh, killing quest - party time!

10 minutes later in a cave running out of magicka and health - FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Getting lost when the quest place was about 100 meters away from me. I literally walked all the way to the other side of the island when, really, the quest place was about 100 meters away from where I started.

I've still never reunited those redguards by Ald-Ruhn that were accosted by nix-hounds. It's always awkward when you don't wanna escort someone so you run ahead turn around and fire arrows at them and loot their corpse for your reward haha.

First time I did the Dwemer Puzzle Box quest, I missed that makeshift rock pathway up to the door leading to the room where the box is, so I wandered through the entire place looking for it, to no avail. Got some nice Dwemer loot though.

Same happened to me!
Cleared out the whole place, killing everyone in sight and looting as much as possible. Just about to leave when... "...wait, I was here to fetch something... where on earth could it be?"

Also there are times when I find myself being slaughtered either in a tough battle or unexpected situation, or the game crashes like it tends to do... and then realise I haven't saved for the past hour or so. Learning to use quicksave the hard way :P

Just taken screen shot from in-game:

Note - I see that the image is really dark. However, my monitor at home is darker than usual as well, so please do your own corrections on the image if needed.

I was doing the Temple quest where you must deliver some food to a man living in the wildness on an island West of the ruins. Don't know why but during the whole time after I read my Journal I was completely sure that my target is East of the ruins. Spent 1 hour in going through all the islands on the East side, only to read my Journal again and see that the island is on the West side.

I did the same thing!

Another was when doing the thieves guild quest where you have to get those dwemer artifacts from that khajiit in hla oad. Instead of going to hla oad I went to Gnaar Mok and spent at least an hour looking for the guy, then I realized what I had done wrong and I went to Hla Oad, and couldnt unlock the chest they were in.

The awkward moment when you die to a rat at level 1, first time playthrough anyone? :P

That always happens to everybody who plays fairly. Who doesn't die at least once to a rat on their first playthrough? Especially those strong rats.

I was rather young when I started playing Morrowind so I couldn't really be bothered to read all that English. I never understood what to do with the package for Caius Cosades and ended up dumping it on the ground somewhere. Much later I realized I'd broken the main quest for myself and this was before I knew about the console so there was nothing to be done. ^^'

How old were you?

Thinking that Hainab(the guy from the stolen pants quest in Gnisis) was in some other city instead of Gnisis, which was the city where the quest started.

The same thing happened to me... I was looking for the Cavern of the Incarnate for 5 hours... No joke...

Fail!

I don't know but I was 9 years when it came out but I would've gotten it a little later since Tribunal was included in the box so 10, or older. Image

I had a fail moment when I was in Vivec and I was not paying attention where I was going and I was running up against the barrier on the edge to make sure you don't fall off. So since I was not paying attention I hit the jump button because I realized I was not moving and I jumped off the top story of the foreign quarter...

The awkward moment when you watch the explosion incinerate the person you're escorting and you suddenly remember that that custom fire spell is a grenade, not a bullet... ;)

Also, I once clumsily attempted to pickpocket an Ordinator (and failed spectacularly, because I was level 6 or something) when I wanted to talk to him, because I didn't let go of "Sneak" first...

I have another question though - what do you do when something so abysmally stupid happens to your character? Do you accept the consequences and deal with the problem in-game, or do you reload a saved game and remember not to be an idiot next time?

When I used Void Salts and Dreugh Wax to make potions.... worth almost nothing.
