Riverwood: A "singing" tree?

If you cross the stone bridge in Riverwood, taking the path to Bleak Falls Barrow, there's an unusual tree just on the other side of the river, directly to the right of the bridge. It emits a kind of ringing/tinkling sound, but there doesn't seem to be a way of interacting with it. Is this supposed to simulate the sound of ice-covered branches moving in the breeze, or is there something else going on here? I haven't heard this sound from any other tree, and this tree seems unusually loud for an ordinary background ambient effect.

And it's not just a Nirnroot nearby?

Sounds sort of like you might have a Nirnroot nearby... perhaps glitched into the tree?

No, it isn't a Nirnroot hum. It's more of an icey sound, and I haven't found a Nirnroot near there, at least not that I remember.

Could be just an odd bug. Or part of a quest you haven't started.

EDIT:

Neeevermind then.

You have to have two companions..

then you say the magic chant and each fire a shot into the air...

and that will summon the invisible swordsman...

and he will then show you the way to El Guapo's.

:D

it is, the sound ONLY comes form ninroots, its a gltich, my guess is either

A. a ninrroot falls through the fllor
B. the script for the sound is there but not the grpahic
C. the tree has the script for the sound

its not the birds

I visited that tree again, there's no sound this time. I guess it was an audio glitch when the cell loaded that one time.

As for the Nirnroot controversy, I don't think that's it. The sound is nothing like a Nirnroot, either in tone or volume.

it;s not a one time thing, I may self have it happen quite a few times, and I disagree with you but oh well
it sounds like it to me

Many times that I've crossed that bridge, one can hear and see a flock of birds being disturbed from their roost. The cacophony of chirping they make a few seconds afterwards does indeed sound like "...a kind of ringing/tinkling sound".

I'd say you're hearing a bunch of angry birds high above the tree.

There are a few other trees like this, one of the giant camps have one, although the entire tree is glow, with no possible interactions, and i got all the nirnroots around there, but the noise is still consistent.

We all agree that the nirnroot is not THERe, it just the sound of the nirnroot (or sounds like it to me)

nirn root glows to, so I'm guessing the trees eithwer
A. have the ninr root "in them"
B. have the scipt for the sound in them by acdeint

That tree was making the sound the first time I was there. (I haven't found another tree that behaves like this, but I haven't played very much and haven't been to a lot of locations. Other people are saying they've found similar trees elsewhere, so this particular one isn't unique. I also roasted it extensively with Fireball, but that didn't accomplish anything. No dead birds, and the sound persisted.) I left that location/cell to do a quest at Bleak Falls, and when I returned, the tree was silent. Whether or not the tree is glitched when it's making the sound or when it's silent is unknown at this point.

To me, it seems like an intermittent audio glitch, with a wrong audio file sometimes being applied when the cell loads. If this is the case, I'd be interested in knowing which particular sound effect is being mis-applied. I haven't encountered any other in-game object that makes this sound, but, like I said, I don't have a lot of experience in Skyrim. To my ear, it really doesn't resemble the standard Nirnroot audio. (Do Crimson Nirnroot make a different sound? I haven't found one yet.)

I know this is a boring and trivial event to many, but it's the sort of thing that I enjoy in games, trying to figure out "What in heck went wrong here?" It's like a little window in the heart of the machine, showing you things you wouldn't normally see. Thank-you to everyone who is sticking with this and looking for explanations.

This is a long shot and may be panned as ridiculous, but could this be a fully grown nirnroot? Some sort of nirntree? Hence the tinkling sound? Probably not eh?

So, I found myself in Riverwood for the first time in a very long time, and encountered the singing tree again. I spent a bit of time checking out the tree closely, and there's a bird which has spawned through the trunk, half way up the tree.

Scale-wise, the bird seems rather large for what it's supposed to be. It's also coloured unlike any other bird I've seen in the game, being bright blue with vibrant red and yellow markings. An easter egg, perhaps? Maybe the tree got its revenge against this annoying critter.

Yeah I too hear that noise. I've always dismissed it as bats or birds flying overhead, however.

Haha.... Hi... you have no idea who I am... But these caught my curiosity, so I wanted to look at it and see what I could see, or... hear... But alas, my Xbox is being maintained and shipped back to me so I won't be able to until at least Monday, and I don't have my PC version right with me... For specific reasons...
