Things you DON'T like about Skyrim

For me, as a mage, it is extremely irritating that skills like lockpicking and speech level you whether you want them to or not. I think Bethesda should have kept minor skills in there.

That Golden Whatsit (the thing with war and elves) being so vague. What happened, why, and who the heck is the emperor now? Also- the overall cluelessness I have with the new lore. I made my Bosmer character a Stormcloak, not knowing that the ban of Talos worship was caused by the elves. If I'd known that, it'd make sense. It's the 31th of Heartfire and I just now noticed the fault in my character. If someone said something about it- but no one did. So I'm no longer pleased with my character. If I knew that, it'd be great, yeah. But not now.
Then there's always horses being in third person instead of first. I can't control the stupid horse without jumping off a cliff.

Love Skyrim otherwise, though. The things that annoy me annoy me a lot, but otherwise, noooope.

The only thing that really bothers me about Skyrim (so far) is that they didn't include horse mounted combat... I really thought they were going to add that to the game. Oh well not the big of a deal anyways.

Combat animations, finishing moves, randomly generated placed items, enchanting effect restrictions, lack of spell customization, the entire UI, even if I'm alone there haha, followers having zero personality/ no personal quests (after Fallout NV, I had much higher hopes for Skyrim's hirelings), already hearing the same voice actors over and over, though it is still a vast improvement from the other games.

If you could take Oblivion's UI and character animations and put them in Skyrim, it would be just about the perfect game.

I have a feeling spell customization could be a future DLC, in a kind of Frostcrag spire way. but I do agree with you there.

Another thing for me, not enough NPCs from the Beast races.

I could go either way with the UI, but the combat animations are a huge improvement IMO. The finishing moves could be more in sync with the enemies that they hit, but when they match up perfectly it's truly beautiful. The only things I don't like would be... Hmmm. This going to be hard... The fact that there is any leveling system at all is a problem, even if it is an improvement over Oblivion's.

I wish, but I also, sadly, doubt it.

I read on the wiki that there are "hundreds" of Spells in Skyrim and had myself quite a laugh, as I've only seen like 20. But then all of a sudden I find an "Ice Spear" tome, something I'd never seen before, and that Spell, did 60 damage (for my completely un-Magic-trained warrior). Bearing in mind that base Health is 100, and the beastly synergy of Perks and equipment, I'm beginning to come around and resign to the idea that Skyrim is well-enough balanced not to need it, whether or not I as a player desire it. That helps a little.
Still, it's one less thing I can immerse myself in. I can't begin to recount the joy I got from creating Spells and naming them, making them mine. Oh well.

I hate how you can't do anything while in the air. Plummeting off a cliff? No Become Ethereal shout for you, because everything you do is dependent on ground touching your feet! Even talking.
No jumping about while shooting like in Oblivion, no falling onto a crippled, dying dragon while hitting it with spells... And the worst thing is, there was absolutely no reason to do this whatsoever.

It was completely pointless, as far as I can tell. Also dislike: How it doesn't autosave much in the wild, how short the guilds seem to be, and how nobody seems to react to the civil war ending. At all. Or even stop acting like it's still on. It'd also be nice if exploring practically every area on the map that wasn't dotted with locations yet had found me more than one Daedra Shrine.

Forget minor skills, they should just separate them into a Profession Level system, it'd be just like a normal skill lineup (perks and all), but kept separate from combat leveling. Enchanting, Alchemy, Smithing, Lockpicking, pickpocketing, speech; Heck, while we're here, add Spellcrafting and Rune-carving* (to give mages and warriors another profession)

* - unique non-magic enhancements for weapons and armor (killing an opponent increases your speed for X seconds, reflects fire back at attacker when blocking, small chance to turn enemies to stone, arrows have a delayed explosion after initial hit, etc.)

I really miss the journal. The new one barely tells you anything, and I liked the in-depth entries it recorded every step of the way in Morrowind, and to a lesser extent in Oblivion. I also miss how there's no faction tab or anything of the like. The journal used to be where you could find info on just about everything, now it's just a start menu. :?

Reading this, I agree with essentially all of you. And now I'm in an uber state of depression. On my own note, I despise the lack of NPC interaction. I can only pray that an update adds back all what they had to 'remove' to make space. And the DLC's are epic.

I absolutely don't understand where this complaint is coming from. Leveling up a passive Skill like Speech by bartering only gives you greater opportunities to stockpile Perk points and increase your Attributes (there is nothing telling you to spend Perk points right when you level up). The scaling up of enemy difficulty is marginal at best.
I really miss the journal.
True, freaking, that. Now the PC is just as personality-less as the hirelings. Plus it looks more like a briefing screen or a very plain spreadsheet, than a bona fide journal, which goes back to my complaint of the entire UI. Bad stuff all around.
Reading this, I agree with essentially all of you. And now I'm in an uber state of depression.
Ah, the positives of this game far outweigh the negatives. While it's possible (even easy) to point out and dissect the game's flaws, trying to point out every nuance that's positive would be nigh impossible: there's too many. What's wrong with Skyrim? The stuff we've mentioned. What's great about Skyrim? Everything else.

You don't have to find a perk that's worth getting when you get perk points. The points are like a currency that can be saved up, for the first few hours I didn't spend any until my skills were higher at level six or seven and I had all seven saved up. It's not like you're being forced to spend the perk points and they won't be going away if you get more.

Although there are way too few NPCs that are beast races Bethesda does a reason for this. The beast races aren't accepted in Skyrim, Khajiits aren't allowed inside most major cities and settlements and the Argonians have to live in the poorer districs because none of the racist Nords want to give them higher paying jobs. The Orcs also live in strongholds (Generally) because they are liked just about as much as the Argonians.

You guys are missing the point, it's the fact that it distracts from getting your offensive perks because each level you talked to someone or picked a lock for a quest, Yes I could stockpile them, but if Lockpicking/speech was a minor skill I wouldn't have to wait. The difficulty has nothing to do with it. We're here to say what we don't like and, big shocker, I have an opinion on the new leveling system.

I could say I have no idea why someone hates the UI because of pseudo RP reasons or thinks Oblivion's animations were better, but I don't.

I'm definitely missing something. Your character's level has no impact on how fast individual Skills increase (it's the reverse that's true).
Passively increasing Speech enough to level up will give you a Perk point to stockpile or spend, increase an Attribute by 10, better a merchant's general stock (presumably), and marginally increase the level of enemies.
I see absolutely no negative. You have a right to your opinion; no one's being down on you (sorry I'm kind of abrasive).

But, I mean if your complaint is "Oh man I'm distracted by having to level up for these couple seconds before getting back to playing" or some kind of [&@%!]-retentive desire to suppress unused Skill's levels... I don't have anything nice to say about that.

The graphical glitches.

The crashes.

The bugs.

The UI port from consoles. (Thanks for not caring about the PC players again Bethesda)

How boring fighting dragons is.

How simple the combat is.

The one-hand and two-hand skills. (Realism is like "slooooow dowwwn", but sales is like "F**k you.")

The feet. (People, why u no have toes?)

And probably more stuff.

I just don't like how, in alchemy, you can't name your potions any more. I also thought they were going to add, you know, writing into the game. Once again they have everything you need, like in Oblivion: paper, quill, inkwell, I just don't understand why they add that into the game if you cant write anything, I guess they're just there so you can say, "Oh look, someone was writing stuff here. Too bad I can't do that."

No unarmed skill, I can't believe I thought they were gonna make unarmed combat better, but instead, they got rid of it. Now it's just left fist, right fist, and no blocking.

I just simply don't like the new spell casting system. Sure, it's cool to constantly shoot lightning or fire constanly from both hands, it's just that, in Oblivion, I liked being able to easily use spells and melee at the same time, especially when I need to heal myself.

No acrobatics or athletcis skill, so now, like in Fallout, you go the same, slow pace the entire game with no hope of ever going faster.

I do like Skyrim very much, but it's just one of those games where it's an awesome sequel to an awesome game, and if you were able to combine both games, you would have the perfect game, you know what I mean? For example, if Oblivion had the things Skyrim has, like smithing, cooking, or other new things that amde the game great, then it would be an amazing game. On the other hand, if Skyrim had some of the things that Oblivion has, like athletics, acrobatics, and Oblivion's spell casting system, and other things that we know and love, then you would get, at least in my opinion, the greatest game ever. You see what I mean, now?

Why, in all honest hell, would you not see that as someone being down on someone else? Seriously, I'm not even the original person who said it, but you chose to quote my thoughts on it. Please, just take a second to be civil for more than two seconds.

I'll put this across plain and simple: I buy and sell stuff for gold, Speech go up when this happens, I do this every level. I want good stuff, I lockpick chests, it goes up. I now have to wait on perks that could have happened earlier if I didn't do things that are almost unavoidable.

That's true Akiraka. If you're going to steal from people, or even open chests, you're using your ability to lockpick. That doesn't mean it's doing something you have no say in. Quests on the other hand are different, but only maybe 1/10 quests require you to open something, and even then, I doubt one level in a skill you hardly ever use is going to affect you offensive skill progression.

Exactly. I actually save before lockpicking and if there is nothing really good in the chest, I re-load.

Wouldn't mind if you did. If you could change my mind about it, I wouldn't have to think negatively of it anymore.

I quoted you out of ease (your post was at the bottom of the page, nearest the reply box), not some personal desire to belittle your opinion. I'm not being ...not civil. I've been very blunt, downright rude, to other members on here before, my last couple posts might be coarse, but any kind of personal attack or otherwise rudeness is in your own head. I don't understand your (or, to be clear born2beagator's) point of view, and I suppose I'm abrasive in expressing that. It's nothing personal.
I now have to wait on perks that could have happened earlier if I didn't do things that are almost unavoidable.
I just don't understand this rationale. You don't have to wait for anything? If you're passively increasing Speech because you're bartering, Speech isn't preventing you, or making you wait longer, to unlock "Perks that could have happened earlier", the fact that you're in town bartering, not out using the Skill you want Perks for that's delaying you acquiring them.

Each Skill is separate from the rest. Passively increasing a Skill has zero relativity on all the rest; how fast they increase, where your Perks go, everything. In fact, getting free Skill increases gives you free Perk points... I absolutely can't understand the down side.
I doubt one level in a skill you hardly ever use is going to affect you offensive skill progression.

Exactly. I actually save before lockpicking and if there is nothing really good in the chest, I re-load.
Dual quoting because both phrases convey the same idea.

Exactly, FrostMage, it doesn't matter whether a Skill you don't use/ like (say Lockpicking) is 10 or 100, the Skill you're trying to use (Maybe Destruction, born2beagator?) is going to progress at the exact same rate. The thing that's 'making you wait longer' to grab associated Perks to Destruction isn't gaining Skill in Lockpicking, it's simply stopping to pick a lock.

On the other hand, suppose you have 99 Destruction, no Perk points, did not yet take that 75 Destruction Perk, are nowhere near getting that 100th level in Destruction, but one point from leveling up... and lo, there's a chest in front of you. Picking that chest increases your Lockpicking Skill, gives you a level up, a free Perk, and now you get to grab that Adept Destruction Perk. There's no downside. None. :?:

Hmmm. I'm finally seeing how a character planner could be even more complicated with perks in the picture.

For people who think leveling Lockpick or Speech will affect your advancement of another skill, that's just a lie. Let's get that out there. Second, like I said before, you don't need to open chests if you don't want to, and even if you do, it's going to affect your level up progress very slowly, and unless you're a thief with a high level in Lockpick, it will affect your level progress even less.
