After clicking "F" for rename, it takes me to the name of the item, I can backspace, but I can't type anything. I assume the game thinks all those keyboard letters are for things like walking, taking out weapon, etc, and not for typing...

Obviously a PC issue =/ anyone have a solution?

I've had the same problem, and have yet to figure out how to get around this. It's kind of annoying. I thought at first I was hitting the wrong button, but soon realized that it was just buggy.

I was able to rename an item, ONCE! After that, nothing. I wanted to name my new sword Mortigard. I found I couldn't, no matter what I did. it's clearly a bug.

Not surprising with Skyrim's size TBH.

I'm afraid I don't have a solution. It works for me. It actually took me a while to figure out that I first need to press OK on the enchantment details (weapon), then I will be able to rename before I press R to actually craft it. But apart from that it seems to be working.

I am however underwhelmed by the potency of enchantments that I get to put on armour, so much so that I thought it was a bug (and still not too convinced it isn't).
If a Novice Hood that I find in the very first few minutes of the game has +30 Magicka, for instance, how come I can't squeeze more than 2 from a Petty Soul Gem at 46 Enchanting?! To me, Novice = Petty Soul Gem. Am I wrong?

I think that the level is based more on the soul gem than your enchanting level. So even though your skill might be high, a petty soul gem still isn't going to go far.

Well apparently it's been confirmed that as you level up your enchanting, the value of the enchantment goes down rather than up, so who know what else is wrong with enchanting right now ><

Fair enough, I don't want it to go far, I just want to replicate Novice quality items already in the game. And for the record I accept that a marketed enchanted item may have been made by a Master with a 100 skill and all the perks, but at 48 I'd like to be able to squeeze 10-15 points out of a petty gem for the head slot, since Novice hoods give you 30.
I did see an increase with my skill as well as with gems, until 25ish Enchanting I got 1 point of magicka (woohoo!) and now I get 2.

Meanwhile, if I hadn't spent so much gold on levelling Enchanting I could afford an Adept Hood increasing my Magicka by 50 points instead of the 9 I can squeeze out of a Common gem.

As it stands now I wonder, what's the point of levelling the skill at all? If not only the artifacts, but the commonly marketed magic items are far far superior to anything I can make, I'd be better off saving the gold and buying those.

On the other hand this doesn't happen with weapons. The enchantments I make look consistent to me with what I find on ready-made items.

These control bugs happen when you switch around controls, I believe it specifically happens when you switch something from keyboard to mouse.

Yes that is exactly what is going on.
I like my "activate" button to be "mouse4". It works fine except for picking up books. I have to remap it back to "e" to pick up a book.
I am kinda hoping this will be patched soon.

Well to anyone who still has issues, it randomly disappeared for me, that and I realized how to do it better. Hitting F lets you rename it, and then after you're done, you hit enter, not "R" for craft. After you hit enter, it's all in caps lock, but that's not how it will look and it'll be fine. Then hit R. I'm not really sure why it started working for me again though.

Try pressing the button that's bound to switching back and from 3rd person. The key won't change in the interface, even after you remapped it.
