After the town there is a bridge, after the bridge go left and you'll find it.

the start of the climb is on the opposite side of whiterun, it is right next to a small town, near a bridge. Took me a while to find as well.

make sure you're actually going up steps tho. spent 2 hours last night trying to find the damn thing. and there are 2 bridges, one has 2 people at the edge of it talking about the steps.

The town is called Ivarstead. It is on the (south)eastern side of the Throat of the World. It's pretty easy to get to from Whiterun, just follow the road east, then follow the signs.

Yep, once you get to Ivarstead just go across the bridge and follow the road up.
And when you are in Ivarstead, make sure you do the misc. quest in the barrows. There is some good stuff in there.
