Just searched it up, didn't find any topics on it. So, has anyone else read / in the process of reading this series? I'm halfway through A Clash of Kings, myself. Loving it so far. Thoughts?

Thank you so much for this topic! <3
I finished A Clash of Kings some time ago and am waiting for A Storm of Swords to be delivered to me. George Martin is one of the best fantasy writers of all time, no doubt. He and Tolkien are my two main influences as a writer.
I'll start asking the simpler questions:
Favourite character(s)?
Favourite scene(s) so far?
Favourite passage(s)?
Favourite great house (or faction, since Dany and The Night's Watch aren't really houses)?
Most hated character(s)?

Favourite character(s)? - Hmm. Tyrion, obviously, only because I like the way his mind works, and I'm having fun deciding whether or not I should like him. I like Robb, despite not having as much insight into his character as some others.
Favourite scene(s) so far? - Tough call. Both
Spoiler:
the crippling of Bran, and the execution of Ned
caught me totally off-guard.
Favourite passage(s)? - Another tough one. Let me get back to you on that one.
Favourite great house (or faction, since Dany and The Night's Watch aren't really houses)? - The Starks, though I'm supposed to like them. I also like the Greyjoys, they're very unique. Also, this :3
Most hated character(s)? - Joffrey, I suppose. Not yet sure about how to feel about Sansa. She could yet redeem herself.

I'm not sure about the third and fifth ones (although they are both minor). The rest are safe for you. But maybe we should add the books above the spoiler tags just in case? Eltee spoiled something for me too

God, I'm too tempted. Fifth, I've already read, and third was pretty minor. Anyway, agree on other points. Those were some good ones. Forgot the Master Aemon and Arya ones.

Cersei has grown on me to be honest. I think she is a strong character.
But there are a few strong characters. Characterization is the series' strong aspect after all.
Favorite event:
Dance With Dragons
Spoiler:
Theon getting castrated in Dance with Dragons.

GUYS I THINK IT IS QUITE IMPORTANT TO LABEL WHICH BOOK YOU ARE SPOILING, ALRIGHT? FOR EXAMPLE:
CLASH OF KINGS
Spoiler:
RODRIK'S FAVORITE FOOD IS STEAMED CAPON
STORM OF SWORDS
Spoiler:
THEON IS LATE TO BREAKFAST
Otherwise it's like a landmine. Thanks.

Favourite characters: Jaime, Ser Jorah and Dany. Jaime is just plain awesome, As is ser Jorah and dany is the blood of the mother flippin dragon so... and Davos cos so much bad stuff happens to him it's hilarious.
Tywin lannister deserves a top place he is an absolute boss.
I also like The hound, Brienne, Renly, Jon, Bronn, Robb, Barristan etc.. there are so many!
Tyrion is everyones favourite. hes funny and i like his character but i don't like him.
Fave scenes
Spoiler:
All the 1-on-1 fights (like the trials by combat for example) are awesome. Especially if they involve Jaime or ser barristan.
1 for each book <3
AGOT
Spoiler:
Tyrion: "They say the aerie is impregnable"
Bronn: "I'll impregnate the b*tch
Also "Crown for a king" especially in the TV show that was amazing.[/spoiler"]
ACOC
Spoiler:
Jon and his expedition into the frostfangs
ASOS
Spoiler:
Red wedding. Made me cry but it was amazing.
AFFC
Spoiler:
The Septons "broken man" passage is always quoted as one of the best in the books. And it is.
ADWD
Spoiler:
Ser Barristan kills the pit fighter Krazz. Also anything to do with Drogon
The Mystery Knight (Prequal book if you haven't read them i would reccomend them)
Spoiler:
No! he's the prince's sworn sword. He'll kill you! and he does. lol. awesome
My favourite house is the lannisters. They may be evil but they totally know what they're doing. And they're rich as all hell.
I HATE Arya with a passion.
Spoiler:
I just feel like her story is ridiculous and cliched.

How can you hate Arya and love Tywin? Tywin was an absolute ass.

Oh don't get me wrong i don't like him as a person. Oh god no, if i were to ever meet him I'd be terrified.
Spoiler:
He's the only person contending for the throne that is truly qualified to rule. I wouldn't want any of the other contenders for the throne to be king (except renly maybe he would have been good.) and Dany, she would be good. And Stannis.
Ok i take it back, there are better people for the job, but i think his ruthlessness makes him a really good character you know?
And arya's story about a little girl escaping and becoming a deadly assassin. It just feels very cliched and boring when i read it. Maybe it will get better if she comes back into contact with soem other characters at some point.

Oh, in that case I understand. Well, Stannis would be fit to rule, though he's a bit...Stannis.

Renly would be much better since Stannis
Spoiler:
is a bit mad and wants to burn everything and he also burn people alive

For the greater good. What could Renly do? He had never even been in a battle. He was a young, arrogant princling, nothing more. Stannis may be Stannis, but he is just. He would have just the right amount of hardness.

Renly is charistmatic, full of grace, experienced in ruling as a member of the council and he is true to Westeros' established religious order. Out of all the claimants to the Iron throne likely to make a good king that is able to keep the peace, Renly is by far the best candidate.
Renly didn't make any mistakes in his campaign for his, and only
Spoiler:
lost his bid for the Iron Throne due to totally unanticipated magical tricks committed against him by his brother

Charismatic, yes. I think he would be savagely taken advantage of by the rest of the council though.
Campaign? All he did was march, I don't recall any battles, nor any sort of move really. Apart from the moving itself.

What makes you think that? He had enough sense to try to make an alliance with Eddard Stark before things got too difficult, to flee the city when Eddard was too stupid to see the threat Cersei posed to them both, to make alliances with the right families and build up his own power base. He was his own man and I see nothing that makes him look impressionable or stupid.

A smart move. Let the Lannisters and Starks crippled eachother first, and then take the much weakened Crown Lands before taking the rest of the realm. In the meantime, the slow progress allows him the opportunity to cement his ties to local lords throughout the south and engage in propaganda that will help him gain and keep the Iron Throne.

Nevermind me, I'm just biased >.>
Yes, you're right. I just let myself be influeced too much by the various character's opinions I suppose. Still, Stannis wouldn't be a bad king.
