Obliviorim or Skyblivion: Which would be better?

I'm sure you people are aware of Morroblivion, the amazing mod that allows a player who owns both Morrowind and Oblivion to play the entire game of Morrowind through the Oblivion engine with all of the system adjustments that entails.

Now, let's speculate on the future. Todd Howard has claimed (on numerous occasions) that the way the game is build remains very similar to the previous two games, the construction set still functions in a similar fashion and so on. We don't even know whether this is going to be possible at this stage... but let's imagine some crafty coders managed to find a way, which of these would you prefer to see (based on current impressions of Skyrim):

A) Obliviorim - The entire game 'Oblivion' playable in the engine of 'Skyrim'
B) Skyblivion - The entire game of 'Skyrim' playable in the engine of 'Oblivion'

This idea sprung from the fact that many fans had major issues with the way Oblivion worked (in which case, being able to play Oblivion and explore Cyrodiil using the 2011 engine would be an attractive proposition), however some people have been rather vocal in their beliefs that the Skyrim engine 'dumbs down' the game (in which case, the ability to retro-play the new game with the older more familiar system may seem attractive also).

Let's assume that the developers only have time to make one. If you were the developer of such a mod, which one would you ultimately decide to make. For the sake of this discussion, practicality is unimportant since nobody has had a chance to look at the game's files yet, we haven't even had a chance to play the new game yet - so let's base decisions on what you think would make a better product based on what we know so far.

I'd have to say Obliviorim.

No generic dungeons. That's always a plus.

Humm, probably Obliviorim. I personally feel that the way Skyrim's engine is handling things is better than the Oblivion one. It seems capable of doing so much more. Whereas Oblivion...not so much. Particularly how magic is handled, or dragons. I'm looking forwards to those, and I think the experience of Skyrim would be cheapened as an Oblivion mod.

I imagine the generic dungeons would stay. Morroblivion simply allowed Oblivion to use the Morrowind ESM file, so you could play Morrowind using the menus, graphics, interface and system of Oblivion - no dungeons were altered.

Just to be clear, you do need to install both Oblivion (and Shivering Isles) and Morrowind (with the two expansions) to get the mod to work - the mod just behaves like a middle man and eases the process along removing bugs and fixing incompatible features.

I knew, the moment I pressed Submit, someone would say that eventually :D

So I could have both games at a lower graphics setting or both games at a higher graphics setting?
Is that basically all this question boils down to?
The answer seems pretty obvious to me....

The significance of the downgrade would be to return to the Oblivion system. Some people actually loved the way Oblivion worked, or at the least have been very vocal that Skyrim appears to be a 'dumbing down' in their eyes.

I really cant see how that line of thought goes. In Morrowind and Oblivion you could max yourself out (everything at 100) but in Skyrim you can't have all perks. So what game(s) is more 'dumb'?

Anyway I'd LOVE to replay Morrowind and Oblivion with the Skyrim engine and Skyrim levelling system. It would take an incredible amount of work though.

Skyblivion sounds better, but there would be little point going backwards, so Oblivion in Skyrrim's engine, but called Skyblivion - and legal from the get go this time would be nice.

I'd have to say Obliviorim, but I won't due to its ridiculous name.

Oblivorim definitely, it would be so much fun to run around paradise with a spell that turns my hand into a flamethrower, getting dipped in lava is the least of their problems.

Oblivorim, without a shadow of doubt. Skyblivion would be a giant step backwards. Why is this even a question? Oblivion was fun, but the creation engine that Beth developed for Skyrim is so much more amazing and solid in terms of everything, that there really is no reason to even consider this.

IMHO

Definitely Obliviorim. Oblivion had potentials that its engine just couldn't live up to.

So far by all the answers, it seems like people are only buying Skyrim for the graphics >.> I am the only one who said skyrim with oblivion graphics ):

Graphics are not the only improvement. Think of the new engine, the new mechanisms, levelling, perks, dual wielding, there are so many improvements over graphics.

I'm pretty sure the engine only has to do with graphics, not gameplay...

Your point? I'm saying that Skyrim has made more improvements than just graphics, so people are not
Frogmander wrote:Only buying Skyrim for the graphics
For one thing, there are a number of improvements, for another, it's a completely new game and story, and people would probably still buy it if it were the same, gameplay-wise, as Oblivion.

Well... It doesn't. When you see the improved animations, that is a result of the improved engine, so is the stability of the game and the amount of stuff that can happen at the same time (which is also stability I guess), the radiant-AI has been made way more believable as well, then we have the physics what have also gotten an overhaul, which is also lovely.

The creation engine is an improvement over that of morrowind, oblivion and fallout (gamebryo) in every single way. When it comes to game development, older engines are never the best option. Come on man.

I'm not trying to be a hater and burst your bubble, but why would you ever want older tech in newer games?

Exactly, don't take it personally if people argue with you or disagree with your viewpoint (I know you probably don't, but just in case). If people start attacking you as a person, sure, don't put up with it. But the fact is, that most people are really looking forward to the new developments, including the technological ones, of Skyrim.

Daggerfallrim.

But seriously, Obliviorim sounds better.
And I'd prefer it not being a total conversion. Maybe you could take a portal that transports you between Cyrodiil for Obliviorim/Skyrim for Skyrim, similar to how going in and out of the Shivering Isles.
