The Book of Face

I was just curious of how many of you guys are active members of Facebook, and how many of you are against it. Ever since it came out I've been back and forth on whether or not to join. If I do it will be only to keep in contact with family and close friends, which are spread out around the world. But I worry that all that goes with it would out weigh my simple use of it.
Thoughts anyone?

I have a Facebook account, but I rarely use it except for talking to a friend from B.C.

I'm not an avid computer user, but I worry about getting caught up with everything that goes on on fb. No matter who your friends and family are there's bound to be drama, right?

I use it, mainly to chat to mates without spending loads of money on phone bills. I also feel weird talking with my voice to people when I can't see them... not really sure why, it's just one of those things that bugs me.

Facebook is worth it in my opinion, sure there is a lot of drama, but that's what the 'delete friend' button is for. You can also just ignore it.

I use it but I'm one of those people who only friends people they know in real life. Thanks to Facebook I've found a couple of my old friends. That was pretty cool.

Remember, the internet is a public place, so be careful what you post.

I actually do have Facebook, although I had been putting off getting it for a number of years now. It's just so much more convenient than emails, and I've never been much for chatrooms. It's hard to keep in touch with people from overseas/that you don't see much any more without some form of internet.

Everyone I know uses it, even the ones who vowed they never would. Man, I don't know why this feels like such a hard decision. Maybe if I'm gonna keep questioning it I should just do it. Oh blast it all, this is annoying.

I agree with you Dean, I too don't really care to talking through the phone, I get awkward, even with my mom.

Ya, I know that kind of stuff. I am well versed in the use of computers(dad does all his work in that field so we all learn off him) I just don't spend hours on end using them. Except now, but this is different, really!

I have to use it as its how all of my friends communicate with each other, I check it every few hours just to chat with people but that's about it. I prefer chatting with people through text as my Dyspraxia makes it hard for me to talk on the phone.

I have it yet rarely use it. Only to confirm that I'm going to events or to help plan them.

I use it quite often. I'm 16 and in High School, so it's very useful.
It's also fun to make a page and use it to goof around. I have a page with about 360 likes and I basically go around and troll pages, making a new admin account every time I get banned.

Oh, that's funny. I just deleted my Facebook the other day. I'm so tired of just how people use it, and how forced everything is. Anyone I need to speak to can reach me by other means, anyway.

Yeah, same here. I have this friend. I love her, really, but oh my gods. Her Facebook updates. Her incessant Facebook updates. Every five minutes. And then there are the damn "if you know someone who knows someone who took a bath at some point in life, post this as a status update" things. And the stupid, stupid shared links. Aaargh. I'm happy I'm off there.

I keep my friend list limited to classmates and family, so it ain't so bad. I use my page to post witty things and the occational picture of me acting silly.

I used to go on it quite a bit, but a while ago my MSN became able to connect to FB chat so I don't find myself using it as much anymore. I probably log in most days because occasionally I find stuff that interests me. Because everyone has one, I think it's a good thing. I don't use it much, but I don't regret getting it.

I don't have it, because when I did the only thing I used it for could have been just as easily achieved with texting anyway. But lately I've been snooping around on someone else's account to 'contact people I can't with a phone' (read: look through everyone's photo albums to see what they've got on me). Plus I frape anyone I can when I get a chance.

I have a Facebook, back from when it was university students only...but, I have to admit, it's not very easy to get on my list. My friends make fun of my "Bilbo Baggins" friending philosophy, since I keep my friends very small and am constantly deleting people without caring about what they think about it. Call me tough, but the fact is that if you're going to allow people a sneak peak into your life, do you really want the whole world to see it? It's a great, great tool for me and my close friends and family, though, because we get to interact and really stay together. So I like Facebook, but, like everything, you have to be cautious about how you use it.

I actually like Google+ more, but there aren't very many people there yet. I'd like to go there entirely not that far into the future, but unless people jump the Facebook boat then I might have to linger on both networks. It's an interesting shift to study, too...but that's another post for another topic!

Oh! Facebook stalking! How could I forget that. That's the other reason I have one. Good fun.

I can't be dealing with it. I have to go offline on chat because otherwise people I don't want to talk to, talk to me. If I want to talk to someone, I'll have them on Steam or Skype or MSN. But the reason it doesn't look like I use Facebook to most people is because I've blocked them since they post absolute crap. All the time. And I don't want to read it.

This is pretty much my view of it as well. I go on for about a second every day just to see if I've got any notifications, and sometimes to share Skyrim news with my friend who isn't on this site.

I knew I wasn't the only one this happens to.

I hide the friends who make posts like that, also ones that posting their terrible music tastes for people to listen to or posting their horrible angst feelings.

I have a defunct facebook somewhere. I don't remember the username nor the passoword. The only thing I do remember is that I have a really awful profile picture.

That's the way I feel like all the way, which is why I am the ONLY person I know who doesn't have one. (Kinda paranoid) But I am really close to my family and my few friends, which is why I now have one.

I totally agree with what you mean. I'm often like that in real life with most things, I don't intend to come off that but I do. In fact, as close as I am with my family there are certain ones I don't have anything to do with. If they're at like a family gathering yes I'll talk with them and we'll have a good time, but I'm not going to allow them to be in my life regularly. So, I am going to adopt your "Bilbo Baggins" philosophy, one because it fits with my stance, and two because I just love that thought of "Bilbo Baggins".

I find it strange to hear so many people complaining about annoying status updates. It's not something that's ever bothered me. And it's not because I just don't have any annoying people on my friend list, because I probably do. I perform absolutely no mainteance on my friends list. I've never deleted anyone and I've never refused a friend request. Maybe I just don't open FB enough. I do open it most days though.
