Will you play Skyrim as opposite sex? Why?

I ask this because though I am male I play 50/50 male/female in rpg's. (I've never played MMO's so that may be another aspect altogether.)

I have 3 character outlines I'm working on for Skyrim: RP male, RP female, and someone who is "me"

Since Beth games have 1st person view, male characters immerse well w/me (i.e. I am on the inside looking out) and if I have a good female character I tend to work in the 3rd person more without any gameplay reason. Just rather look at her for the 60+ hours she'll be on my screen.

For these reasons Bioware games are 75/25 female/male for me. (ESV finally has attractive females, FO3 females were OK, but Bioware still topped them by far) Especially since they voice the lead.

Now that ES has "romance" the gender issue requires a bit more RP consideration. As a male in BW games I was pursuing all avenues. As female, not so much for the sake of romance alone, usually to "get" something out of it. My RP female in a sense "was mine" and the male "was me" (or "him").

All the Freudian issues notwithstanding, will you choose an opposite gender and why?

I tend to just play as what I think looks better. My usual character is a female Khajit named PEET, so I will probably start with her. I thought that the female Khajits just looked better in Oblivion. In the interim before Skyrim I've made another Khajit and this time went with a male. He looks ugly as sin though.
I'm really excited because the races all look so good from what I've seen, so I might have a hard time picking.

I'm not much of a roleplayer anyway. I tried to with my male Khajit (I decided he was gonna be a drunk and would specialize in stealth and ended up just punching animals in the butts) and got bored quickly :p

I usually think in terms of myself when I play anyway, regardless of the character's gender. The only time I go into third person is when I'm jumping around the country side, or I don't get a chance to "connect" with the character during interactions. I mostly just try to pick the options that let me do the most in one play through.

Edit: And since this is my first post. Hi everyone.

I usually make my second character female, just to see if the game responds differently to a female character at some points.

I always play as a male in videogames. I actually don't know why, I just can't see myself playing a female. I guess it's because playing the opposite sex would ruin my immersion (btw, I'm not a role player). I may consider rolling a female char just to make a same gender romance for the fun of it :D

I tend to play whichever gender the character in my head seems to be. It's no big deal, really.

I never really play a character to be me, so I mostly go with what I'd rather spend the game staring at in 3rd person, so female argonians often win out :D

I usually have an Elder Scrolls game long enough to try RPing just about everyone, male or female or man or mer or beast.
Really, i just love coming up with new backstories, and finding the subtle gameplay and dialogue choices.

I usually play as female (I'm male) just because girls are better than boys. :P

Also, this thread could use a poll, I don't know what it takes to get one, but...

I always play as a male when possible. Playing as the opposite sex is disconcerting for me. Although, I might eventually make a female character in Skyrim, simply to see what kind of effect it would have -- similar to playing as a different race.

My video game characters, 9 times out of 10, are always males (whereas I am a female). I've nothing against my sex, I just find it a lot more amusing to kick some butt and rock as a male, plus I tend to play the fighter type and males are typically stronger than females in the game stats.

Besides, I'm a woman all day. It's nice to sit down and pretend to be someone completely different for a while, which is what the roleplaying game does for me.

I agree. (except for the being a woman all day thing) :) I think thats why I RP character as well as gender.

I find if I always play rpgs as myself and what I would do its not as much of an escape.

For instance, one of my favorite comic book heroes as a kid was The Mighty Thor. There's no way I can expect a good video game from that current franchise so I may rp him into Skyrim. It could work.

That said, I'm leaning heavily towards a female character to start. A female kicking ass in tavern brawls and to get dialogue info is just too good!

p.s. thx for adding poll

I always play a woman. I'm not really sure why. I just do.

I'm pretty even when playing genders in games
I have a male and a female mapped out for Skyrim, it'll come down to which character strikes me at the moment I guess

I play both male and female characters.

I find female characters tend to naturally collect lots of cloths and it is more about eye candy where as male characters tend to collect lots of armour and enchantments and it becomes a power game.

Strip either away from the character and they tend to be more or less the same.

Hmmm, I normally play as female, at least to start out with. You know, the first ten characters or so. It's not something I put a lot of thought into, just that it's easier to act in the capacity of female as far as making a visible character. Sometimes I'll experiment and play as a man, every once in a great big while.

I've never played as a female in any ES game. Don't think it's gonna happen this time either.

I play the opposite to see any differences in any way and they said there will be more differences in skyrim.

I voted no. I will be a male first time. Like every time in an ES game. But I have a small interest in playing a female character. About the same as my interest for playing as a Bosmer. I always go in with intentions of being a Wood Elf, then end up a Nord. If only they weren't so short. I mean it's not a small difference it's extremely noticeable. Not when your out adventuring, but when you stand next to NPC's, Bosmer look ridiculously short.
Hmm.. maybe I'll combine the two and make a female Bosmer. Second play through. Maybe. Plan B kinda.

Hmm... so the "yes" voters are still up.

How about first playthrough opposite genders?

Forum members will be covering alot of ground with their first character.
It might be good to have some unfinished business which your second character can accomplish.

The female character models are so good this time around (as are they all), I would be looking forward to my second playthrough as a female (if I start male first).
Add to this all the different races (studying up on them all), I can't accurately guess how many playthroughs I will do in the next few YEARS!

I don't like playing the opposite gender. I was born one way, I don't really want to play as a male just because I can.

Besides, if I wanted to see the male gender I would go outside.

No
I almost always play as a female if the game has the option. The exceptions were ME2 and DA:O (were you had to play a guy to get Morrigan's achievement). I decided I just prefer playing my own gender.

This. ^

This the reason I do it, only I'm the Y to Avron's X. Seeing things through another's perspective always makes you repect the real world as it is around you.
