Will crime and punishment be... similar?

One of the things that disappointed me with oblivion was the way assaults and murders worked. I mean, we know it's not perfect, but i wish someone would have just looked at it and been like "There's something we need to change here..."

Ok, so that might have been a little vague. Let me elaborate.

Say I break into someone's house, and stab them to death. Unless i kill them in one hit, I've got a bounty. That's kind of weird - not being caught in the act.. I understand that a guard could come and see me and put one and one together but, if i escape before a guard shows, come on (not to mention guards will get inside a house in like the speed of light, that's ridiculous.. give us time to escape the scene of the crime please). Not only that, but if i kill someone, and a guard comes in, i'll get booked for assault but not murder (i could be wrong, but this is how it is right?). It's like the guard is like, well i HEARD her/him yell/scream, so i know you smacked/stabbed this dead guy/girl, but i don't know it was you that killed them.

Gah. First of all, if i kill someone and escape and no one sees i was there doing the deed, no bounty please. It should be like, you can break into someone's house, but only if they can manage to get outside (them, or anyone else at the house) and tell a guard, will someone come to the rescue.

Also; the way fighting works is weird. Let's say i get [&@%!] off and smack some dude at a tavern. I would like to see the person's response depend on their aggresiveness rating. Someone who's mild-mannered or otherwise cowardly will run to the guards, some people will respond by grabbing a bottle and coming back at you with it. But if you whip out a weapon, all rules are off? Hmm. It's hard to put realism into situations like this. Barfighting, i think, (that's a new feature right?) is going to be... weird IMO.
And what if my wife [&@%!] me off and i smack her? Is a guard going to rush in and be like "Stop!"... Or is she going to put em' up and try to kill me? Haha. (I'd like to see wive's responses depending on the person themselves - such as, some women leaving you immediately, or some calling for help, or some putting up with it, etc. etc.) C'mon please, i reserve the right to be a drunken [&@%!] of a husband :P

So.... Thoughts?

I believe the only way you get a bounty now is if anyone witnesses you doing the crime. If you 'dispose' of said witnesses, then you no longer have to worry about the bounty...something along them lines anyway. It sounds a lot more realistic then what we have been use to in the last few games Morrowind and Oblivion(not sure what crime was like in the games before these two, never played them).

Ah. This answers another question I meant, but forgot, to ask.

Say I kill A and B witnesses it. I then kill B. Do I have a bounty? Hopefully not.

But then what if i just rampage and destroy a whole town. If EVERYONE dies, do I get a bounty?

Well, for question one: You should no longer have a bounty if the witness is dead. I'm hoping that killing a witness isn't the only way, bribing them to keep quiet would be pretty nifty. Unfortunately I don't know all the details about how crime works in Skyrim.

For question two: I would think that if a guard spots you murdering anyone there would be no need for witnesses and they would simply arrest you or attack you. I do believe I saw something about your bounty only counting for the area you are in, so if you went from one stronghold after killing all the chickens there to another, no-one would try and arrest you as they have no idea that it was you who did it. Sounds a lot better then having psychic guards I must say.

As I said before this is just what I remember reading, some of it may be a bit off as I haven't had time to read it thoroughly through yet. Hopefully someone else can reinforce what I have said, or change it according to what is actually guaranteed.

Alas, poor chickens. They knew too much...

A guy playing the demo caused havoc in a shop using the grab function and wasn't immediately killed by guards. The shopkeep just yelled at him.

If you murder everyone in a town there will be no witnesses to the crime and you will not have a bounty(Apparently).
