Whose Prisoner?

This is something that I've been wondering and I'm pretty sure it hasn't been confirmed.

So, at the beginning of Skyrim we've been told we're a prisoner about to be executed, but I can't help but think who is about to execute us? My gut is telling me the Storm Cloaks.

If it's already been confirmed, I'd really like someone to post a link to the article confirming it, and if not be free to discuss and post your opinions on who are future captors are exactly.

Spoiler:
At the beginning of the game, one of the Jarls appeals for the secession from the Empire. At the start, you're supporting the Empire side, but you can choose to support the rebels later. Politics therefore matter, but there are no times when the player can "do politics", e.g. the player him/herself becomes a Jarl. In other words, you CAN'T become a Jarl.
So I dont think the side you are with will kill you.

that source nerves me, is it saying the faction system/intricate quests presented in new Vegas will not come in to Skyrim if so thats a huge let down.

The whole Jarl business, that kinda of annoys me, I really liked being able to have political power in Shivering Isles and Fallout, we should at least still be able to persuade the other holds to join which sides and etc.

But we start supporting the Empire, so I have no idea what you two mean. It makes perfect sense for the Stormcloaks to be holding you prisoner if you support the Empire, particularly with the whispers that the PC is imprisoned for crossing the border into Skyrim

Duruza, do you have any sources for this rumour? I want to find out if there's any truth to it. :P

I do remember it being all over the place, although it was a while before I went overseas. I'll try and find some, but I can't for the life of me remember where to find them under all the new stuff in the Skyrim Forum.

Googled it, this came up: http://www.gamefallout.com/decreased-ro ... 14069.html

I found that thread interesting, it even states some sources. :)

I'll just let you know that that site is a clone of the Beth Forums filled with all kinds of nasty stuff, or so I've been told. Still, you can probably find the same thread on the official forums. That is the info I was talking about though.

I really hope crime and punishment is more refined this time round. I mean, if you lift and object you get accused of stealing, but if you tresspass they give you ample time to leave. Makes no sense, I would be more tolerant of my friend picking up my book or whatever than him sneaking around my house at midnight.

I hope they are not too specific on who they are or why they want to execute you. I always like to make up little stories about why my character is in prison. So far, these are the ones I have:

Ri'Darva (Khajiit thief) - Caught in bed with a Jarl's wife.
Assassin character - Murder of 16 people.
Nord Blacksmith character - Drunken tavern brawl gone wrong.
Valeri Telvani (Dunmer Mage) - Unethical magical experiements.
