Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Very surprised no one has made a topic on this yet.

So far I'm really enjoying the game, although my playthrough has been inconsistent to say the least. So far I've left a lot of corpses in my wake. But I'm very much digging the game's story and atmosphere thusfar.

So, thoughts, opinions?

It's the best game I've played since I played the original. I'll have more on the subject later.

I'll be getting once I've played the original... and the second.

Just so I can compare it to them.

Ditto.

This series has gotten a lot of praise, but I've never played any of the games.

This game is so great. I'm loving everything about it, especially the design. I was also telling a friend the other day that if they had a multi-player mode in it, it would be the second coming of Metal Gear Online. I loved playing that but stopped when a lot of my friends moved on to COD (blech).

What route are you guys going? Good? Evil? Shades of grey?

Oops should have replied earlier. I did a lethal playthrough which is arguably the quickest way to do things and with reading most of the books and computers and doing all the conversations it took me 28 hours which isn't a bad length. Plus replayability it could be twice or three times that length - I'm already doing another, non-lethal playthrough.

I'm coming to this quite late but i have to say Deus Ex: Human Revolution has to be one of my favorite games of all time. Very little I can complain about. It took me over 20 hours doing a mixture of lethal and non-lethal on my first playthrough. I find when you go through it more and more it gets shorter. I have done 4 playthoughs (including the first one) and have played for 64 hours.

I have also got the Missing Link which I have had one playthrough. I plan on doing more, there is a lot to do, especially since I got this for £1.50. Doing it with a non-lethal playthrough it took me 9 hours and I only managed to get 4/10 of the achievments so I will have to go back to do that again. It also resolved a complaint many people had with the first game, that there was only one way to complete boss-fights. By accident I managed to non-lethally deal with the boss so there should be no reason t compalin.

A definite 10/10

I would certainly pick this game up if you happen across a big sale (I think I paid ~$7.50 for the game and its expansion through steam last year).

I'm an enormous Deus Ex 1 fan. I've played the game every year since it came out (if you do play Deus Ex 1 I highly recommend the Shifter mod and New Vision along with either the new OpenGL or DX10 implementations). I was pretty cynical about Deus Ex 3/HR being any good after Deux Ex 2 but I did really enjoy it. The bosses, - apart from the end one I liked her - were pretty painful/shameful but hey ... purists will be purists. Apart from those cringe-worthy encounters the game was pretty superb. That said, I started my second play through and decided hey - if I'm going to play Deus Ex I may as well play the first one again :D

Small glossary
DE = Deus Ex (2000)
IW = Deus Ex: Invisible War (2003)
HR = Deus Ex: Human Revolution (2011)

To anyone wondering if they should complete the series.
I just finished HR without killing anyone that didn't ask for it. I'm pleased to say it follows pretty closely in the footsteps of DE. Anyone who loves either of them will surely like the other. IW got a lot of bad reviews when it came out and then just disappeared. While DE frequently returns on lists of the best, most inspiring or original games ever, IW is only quoted on lists of failed sequels. The word is that IW was void of so much of what made DE interesting. Consequently I didn't even try it and I'm never going to.

Invisible War is a great game, it's just a [&@%!] Deus Ex game. It's worth a play. I've completed it twice (the original I've beaten 5 times, and Human Revolution 4).

I can imagine it's a decent game but I think I would need to distance myself from HR first in order to appreciate it.
When I first tried Skyrim I threw it away in disgust after two days because I was expecting a worthy sequel to Morrowind. I'm enjoying it now though, 6 months later, because I just take it for what it is - one of the best games of 2011.

I have played Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. They are both great games even if the whole conspiracy stuff gets silly at points. And seriously, who puts points into swimming and environmental resistance?

I have never played Deus Ex 2. I know it is on GOG along with System Shock 2. I'm just not sure if it is worth getting.

Wasn't DXHR a reboot of the series? I remember hearing that it was.
Spoiler:
Did anyone sit through the credits at the end of DXHR to listen to what was at the end? I did and I didn't understand it.

It is of a sorts. It is a prequel to Deus Ex but Eidos Montreal's Jean-Francois Dugas said that we should think of it more as a reboot.
Spoiler:
The cutscene after the credits was a discussion between Megan Reed and the character Bob Page from the original Deus Ex who dies in two of the three possible endings (he is dead in Invisible Warrior).

Was a sequel going to be released or is DXHR the last DX game for this current generation?
Spoiler:
Oh, never played the first two games. I really enjoyed DXHR though and I'd like to see a sequel to it.

As far as I am aware there has been no word of a sequel and with the final months of this console generation it is almost guaranteed there will not be a sequel this generation. However it is likely that there will be a sequel due to the sales and critical recption of DXHR. Edios Montreal are currently making Theif 4 so i'm sure we will hear no more word of DX until after T4 has been released.

Nope. It's just a prequel, and I would think the Taggart ending is canon since it fits with events that will unfold 25 years later in Deus Ex.
