Will MGE play?

I thought I'd try it, but I'm not sure about the system requirements. Here are my specs..really hot back in 05' :

Athlonx2 4200+ 2.2Ghz
1 GB DDR1 PC3200 Ram
256 MB Geforce 7800 GTX

I could score another gig of ram very cheaply, though, assuming it would help.

I read the "official" system requirements in the overhaul installation guide:
Spoiler:
Hardware requirements:
Minimum:
CPU: 2.6 Ghz
Graphics card: Pixel Shader 2.0 capable (ATI Radeon X800/ GeForce 6800 or newer)
RAM: 1 GB (Windows XP), 2 GB (Windows Vista / 7)

Suggested:
CPU: 3 GHz
Graphics card: Pixel Shader 3.0 capable (ATI Radeon 3870/ GeForce 8800 or newer)
RAM: 2 GB (Windows XP), 4 GB (Windows Vista / 7)
...and I was like yay... or, well, ok, might work decently enough. But then I hear people on forums and Youtube complaining about 15 fps and so forth. People with i7's, 6GB and 1GB gpu's. And so I start to worry, a lot.

Anyone have any experience running MGE with a low-end computer? I don't really care about AA or Distant Lands or some icing on the cake, but would I have to sacrifice a lot more than that for it to run well (assuming it does at all)? Thanks!

Edit: I'd be running it in 1440x900 widescreen. Think it's about as taxing as 1280x980.

Cheers Scozzar.

I figured that the worst thing that could happen was that it wouldn't run at all. I'm having MGSO in mind actually. Since MGE is included in the package I figured I had to use it (and that it had all the shiny textures and meshes... silly me).

I hear that they're coming out with v.2 soon though, which will include all patches, even an auto patch feature in addition to being way easier to isntall. Don't think I have the patience though

Can you run Oblivion? If your machine struggles with running that on higher settings, it'll probably struggle with MGE. Your RAM is the same as my older machine, although your graphics card is probably better and the processor's about the same. I can run MGE without distant land, but cannot run Oblivion (although that's a graphics card issue). I guess it doesn't hurt to try it, but you probably want a newer machine to unlock MGE's full potential.

I'd try out MGSO as Scozzar suggested, it looks fantastic in itself.

Thanks, OD. Oblivion runs very well on high settings, so that's a bit reassuring.

Unfortunately, I only own vanilla atm, which won't accept the latest 1.6 patch even though the MGSO guide said it would.

I mean that I don't have goty edition, so 1.6 (or whatever, the Bloodmoon patch) won't work on my game. Therefore, I haven't even bothered trying to install MGSO, yet anyway.
