a prequel game?

Just looking at the elder scrolls time line and wonder if Bethesda would ever consider making a prequel type of game, like bring us back to the first era or second era...

Wondering what everyone's thoughts are and if you would play a prequel type game if they made one, maybe not even a whole game but some kind of expansion pack even. :?:

A prequel could be pretty cool, there is so much Lore to explore, end even discluding that, there's so many gaps that a game could be placed and still be non-linear, changing things up without drastically altering Lore.

If you take the Loveletter from the 5th Era as Lore, I don't think that the series will ever reach the 5th Era, so either then 4th Era will stretch for a long, long time, Bethesda will drop the series, they'll gloss over all the future stuff mentioned in the letter or they may even go backwards.

The possibilities are amazing, and I doubt people would mind if a game went back in time.

Like the events that led up to how the Maormer changed or Falmer/Dwemer disappeared...or the formation of the Chimer and transformation of the Orcs.

But those would require more limitation on races...

TES has a huge following and there would be so many possibility's to what they could do, But can't wait until skyrim comes out to see what the future may hold for the series

Wasn't Redguard a prequel?

Indeed it was.

That's what I was going to raise, except Redguard wasn't too successful, although that doesn't mean that other prequels would be.

Redgaurd 2E 864 (4)
Battle spire 3E, between 389 and 399 (3)
Shadowkey 3E 397 (6)
Arena 3E 399 (1)
Dagger fall 3E 405 (2)
Morrowind 3E 427 (5)
Oblivion 3E 433 (7)

TES Travels, dont have the dates on them, so there where two prequals that we know of, not sure when the Travles ones took place

Edit: After looking I found another one, so thats three prequals at least,

Shadowkey could be considered a prequel. It was released between Morrowind and Oblivion, but took place in 3E 397, during the Imperial Simulacrum (a.k.a. Arena). Dawnstar and Stormhold don't have any dates, but one could regard Stormhold as being set sometime during the Third Era (due to the Morrowind-esque "legion" armor seen on Varus), and Dawnstar mentions an "Emperor", but all that really tells us is that it wasn't set during the Mythic Age/early First Era. The Oblivion travels game obviously coincides with the original console/PC version.

Edit: Ninja'd on pointing out Shadowkey.

The problem with those games, is that they are largely linear, and this is probably the reason they failed in comparison to the main series. If Beth were to go back in time, I'd say it'd need to be an open world RPG with the same kind of feel as their main flagship series.

I agree and yet disagree, I feel like going back in time is just asking for mistakes in lore, plus your a lot more restricted with what you can and cant do, for example, you should not be able to kill (enter guy here) as he is needed for this or that
I'd like them to make it but they would need a way to have more freedom then I can see them getting to do the flagship justice

True, the idea of going backwards does have it's limitations, but there are great expanses of time with which to play around with, so it could be conceivable, although maybe not preferable. As I mentioned before, I'm kind of concerned about this whole Loveletter from the 5th Era, it's too modern for TES and seeing as it's only an Era away, hopefully we don't run out of time going forward. In saying that, Morrowind and Oblivion were only half a dozen years apart, so they can cram a lot into an Era if they so choose, no need for a 200 year gap per se, although it's almost necessary in this case.

Haha, I sincerely doubt that Fifth Era crap will be taken into consideration if the series ever gets that far. Vivec is already dead/missing anyway.

I hope not, although the stuff about Houses Sul and Jaroon got me interested.

two things

1:What loveletter?

2:i dont think a prequel is possible in a no-linear sense. and that means another redgaurd, which wasnt so bad but didnt make me feel like playing it again

Loveletter!

On point two, it'd be tricky to make it non-linear, but as long as Beth has a canon ending, and the ending does affect the future games in a drastic way, it is possible, IMHO.

yea but Beth doesn't really have any areas in the history of Tamriel that would quite allow non-linear game play. and the areas that might work are just really too hard to do practically.

The First Era is pretty blank. All sorts of things could happen back then. Perhaps something revolving around the Marukhati Selectives and the Dragon Break they caused. It would allow for another Daggerfall "Warp in the West" situation.

Exactly my thoughts Legoless, there is a lot of time before the events of the games, the First and Second Eras in particular.

Further, with the current games, they've been non-linear, however, there are 'canon' endings, and the events of the Main Quest are the only thing that really carries over into future games.

Looking back at the OP, it seems our conclusion was reached before the discussion began. :P

I think another "Adventures" spin-off around the time of the Akaviri Invasion of the Second Era would be interesting. More of an action/puzzler than an RPG. Perhaps playing as a Reman spy, sneaking around Akaviri camps...

Now that's an idea. I quite like it actually, and I think I'd buy it, even if it weren't open world or linear.

I was also thinking about possible ideas for this, and a game set on Akavir might work. People have been wanting one for ages, and seeing as Tamriel is somewhat isolated from Akavir, the issue of history is lessened. It might be in a 'random' time period, or linked to the Invasion of Akavir, maybe after contact was lost. Perhaps we are a survivor, captured or rescued by one of the Akaviri nations? Maybe there a re a few other survivors, and maybe some of the natives are friendly? The mainquest might involve aiding the Tang Mo for example.
