Should I stay in the first dungeon till a certain level?

Because every enemy I encounter at nighttime in the first town utterly obliterates me. I've attempted to explore the town a few times as both a nord warrior and an argonian assassin at level 3, only to meet a grisly end at the hands of ambushing thieves. Some of which shot fireballs, I think!

Do I need to roam the imperial dungeon until I get to a higher level, or is this most likely some form of problem on my part (I believe I'm quite terrible at setting points into stats.)?

What are your stats, just out of curiosity. I'm not as incredibly well versed with Arena as other games, but when I played through it for a while I was about your level when I left the starting dungeon, I think a little higher (Level 3-5 if I recall correctly).

Maybe it's your character build?

I had gotten another level on one character (the assassin) since making this thread, the stats are currently:
Strength: 52
Intellect: 48
Willpower: 49
Agility: 62
Speed: 53
Endurance: 51
Personality: 47
Luck: 52

These currently give me modifiers of +2 to hit and +2 to defend.

That doesn't look to shabby, are you still having problems? If so, the starting dungeon is a good place to train, so it's not a bad idea to stick around for a few levels, although it may get a little boring.

Boring? Nah, not with goblins and lizardmen sneaking up on me XD Thanks, though! I'll grind in there for a bit.

Hey, whatever you're happy with . Sorry I couldn't be of more hope, but I really think it's just something that will come with a little time, and you certainly seem competent enough to really pull this off.

If you clear the whole dungeon you should be level 3 or 4 before exiting AND have some decent coin and loot to sell, as well as belts, bracers etc which enchance your armour rating.

But leave with full hp during the day - I came out in Morrowind at night and got killed by an Assassin because the Lizard Men and Goblins had nickled and dimed me almost to death before I could find an Inn to rest.

I came out as other classes in different provinces during the day and was fine. So before you go through the weird, blue gate, try resting until it's about 10:00 AM.

Try not to get your level too high, for there is a moment when the game gets really hard if you leveled a lot, then try to beat the main quest before level 11.

This is my first real play through after trying the imperial dungeons with different races and classes. My Dark Elf Sorcerer just hit level 10 on the first level of the Fortress of Ice. Is this too fast?

She seems to be as good as a Warrior with her Longsword of Agility (compared with Daggerfall, anyway) but she started with no spell points at all. But she didn't really face any spell casters until the Ice Wolves, who recharge her 180 mana completely. So she has only a few utility spells like Heal, Shield, Magelight and Invisibility. The Ice Golems are tough as she can hardly hit them with her Elven Longsword. They are the hardest enemy so far, except maybe the giant spiders. Knights are cissies!

She has only 67 hp, though, but plenty of potions of healing.

I got Daggerfall the year it came out, but this is the first time I've tried Arena. I'm enjoying it, once you get used to the controls.
