I'm going to play as an Argonian, and if I decide to marry a lovely Breton lass, prejudice and racist remarks are to be expected.

Well yes I thought about it already and why not get even farter: what if you race could be the union between.. I dunno.. Dunmer and High Elf !? Kids are already in the game so why not? But.. already in Oblivion if you took Dunmer as a race I think everyone will have a very low disposition towards you: Khajiit's are already subject to racist jokes so I guess Skyrim people which are always depicted as harsh, crazy violent people will for sure be very, very racist.

I plan on pairing my Bosmer lass with a Nord or Orc, just for kicks and giggles. Other than that, I think I'd do Breton and Altmer, Imperial and Breton, Breton and Nord, Breton and Dunmer... Or Breton and Breton.
I love playing as a Breton. :|

For my Bosmer, Nord or Orc as said, other Bosmer, or Imperial. Hurm.

And for my Dunmer, just another Dunmer. Strict upbringing and a lot of racism, you know? But maybe I'll make a Dunmer paired with a Khajiit or an Argonian. Just because.


I dunno. I'm not usually one to play lovey dovey with pixels, but I'll give it a shot.

Oh, and if there are any none-bad vampires, I plan on making someone paired with a vampire. Live in caves or something, ya'know?

I wasn't aware that citizens of Skyrim were homophobes. I know many can be racist, though.

Anyway, it's probably not going to influence my playthrough. I'm just going to play whatever race and orientation I want, and if Tamrielic citizens have problems with it, they can meet Mr. Axe.

I wasn't aware homophobia was a lore established theme. Racism however is, and I imagine that the pairing of anything other than humans and humans, elves and elves, beasts with beasts would be looked down upon - apart from an elf/human with a dunmer wife. It's just expected

This isn't just a medieval style setting, it's a nordic one. I'd be disappointed if there wasn't some authentic homophobia to go with the racism.

In case you haven't noticed, Nirn isn't Earth, and hasn't been tainted by Abrahamic fairy tales promising to kill people for loving each other. It certainly isn't perfect, but it's not lore wise, so...

Hostility to the concept of same-sex marriage predates abrahamic religion by thousands of years, dude. Even in Rome where same sex relationships were openly permitted, marriage was forbidden and frowned upon. In Viking scandinavia, same sex relations were almost unheard of, and were generally not approved of on the basis that everyone was expected to marry and produce offspring, even if they were openly gay.

I would love the possibility of a homosexual relationship I think that the best thing dragon age origins did was open that possibility. It would really help my immersion in the game if I can follow my personality/interests etc.

Following this note I would not mind homophobia in ES:V because it will also add to my immersion, make me feel hate or disgust for some whilst I could really enjoy other peoples company.

Personally if the possibility is open, I think my Nord will marry a handsome Kajhiit/Argonian just to see the look on peoples face

Anyway, for the characters I have planned out, one will be settling down with a Dark Elven girl, and the other, I dunno.

Providing same sex marriage is even possible in Skyrim. Fallout 3 didn't have Confirmed Bachelor unlike Fallout:NV and the latter is made by Obsidian. I'm actually quite bothered if they're trying to put homophobia in Skyrim, it's annoying in real life and it's annoying in video game.

Anyway it would be really nice if we're going to have perks like Confirmed Bachelor or Cherze(????) le Femme.

All perks are skill related. Unless there's one for speechcraft (unlock special dialogue options), we won't get perks like that.

I'm so sorry if I've missed something, but are same-sex unions confirmed as included in Skyrim? That would be fantastic, and almost expected after the groundbreaking progressiveness of the Dragon Age games, but I've not seen any official posts to prove that this will even be an option for us. I know marriage is confirmed, but I'm unsure as to whether gay marriage will be included.

It's Cherchez la Femme-Find the Girl.
And I think homophobia, and racism for that matter, would make the world of Skyrim grittier, and more believable.
And, concerning your post... Adversary is annoying in real life, but without it, video games would flounder in apathetic pinkness. Same could be said for cruelty, conflict, evil. Dammit, they can be annoying, but they add depth to the game.

I am all for friendships. Marriages? A bit strange, but I'm okay with it. Actual sex? No. And don't make the argument that is a natural part of life. This is a game, not a life.

If they can make me care about the NPC, I'm all for it. Otherwise, you feel like a player... also good! Bring on the Argonian Maids!

I don't care so much, would be nice to see more acceptance of sex in videogames though, if only because violence and horrific slaughter is so common already.

Fair enough. I can think of three good reasons.

1) Realism:

Even if the character doesn't engage in sexual activities themselves, sex happens. There are kids in the world. It would be stupid to not portray sex in some manner in the game, and game breaking not to allow the character to participate.

2)Roleplaying:

Like it or not, some people have odd roleplays. While I personally do not dream of Bretons in Leather Armor (maybe a Dunmer, but that's it), some people probably do, or would at least like their character too. And Bethesda has always catered to the weirder sides of fans roleplaying.

3)Maturity:

The game is already M (18's here). It already contains drugs, violence, and will likely contain (albeit Cyrodillic) swearing. It would be silly (not to mention hypocritical) to not include some sexually explicit scenes.

THAT BEING SAID: I personally don't care about these features. I'm simply arguing for the sake of arguing, and just really, really, really want Skyrim.

As long as it's tastefully done, i don't see a problem with sex. it would be weird if all you could do with you newlywed nord is talk to about rumours. The elder scrolls has had sexual overtones on a number of occasions, remember the house of earthly delights?

Sorry if I worded it wrong but I did not mean sex O_o I merely thought that same/sex relationship and marriage. If heterosexual sex is include then why not homosexual sex?
