Morrowind combat

So I first started playing Morrowind yesterday and it seems that I can only stab. Is this normal or is something amiss? I'm running on Windows XP with all the appropriate hardware and Tribunal and Bloodmoon are installed correctly (to the best of my knowledge, anyways,) and I've played around with the controls long enough to be sure that it is not a problem with the way I'm playing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have "Always use best attack" on, your weapon will only be able to use its best style of attack. I suggest you turn this off, as it makes melee combat very boring.

Welcome benzep! Please see this thread, it's covering very similar info and has links.

You might also want to introduce yourself, if you haven't already. Hope we can help.

You just need to change your options from "Always use best attack: Yes" to "No".

If that doesn't solve the problem, then you've either glitched, or are always moving forward a little bit. Doesn't seem likely on PC though.

Note: Changing that setting will lower your attack if you don't manually use the 'best attack' (slash, chop or stab depending on the weapon).
