Also, for you die hard Fable fans, I have played it, for just a little while, and I thought it sucked.
The things wrong with this post...
You watched a gameplay video and judge it? I have no idea what you're talking about with the AI, because it is done pretty well, the characters are deep and interesting and funny. The Sanctuary is a stroke of genius on Lionhead's part.
The Combat system kept me in the game and interested.
You only played it 'for just a little while' and you think it 'sucked'. I'd suggest playing through the whole game.
Fable 1, 2 and 3 were all very good games that I've enjoyed for a long time.
Well, a video can give a good idea. I played 1 and 2, I liked them both, though I saw in 2 it (The series) was going a direction that wasn't what I played 1 soo many dang times for. From what I saw in a video for 3, the combat was kinda dumbed, I saw this guy attack a horde of bad guys, they only attacked once, and they never dodged...The player used flourish once, maybe twice. And I also watched the Angry Joe video, and I don't have to play the game to realize how they set up inventories was kinda complicated versus pressing a button and having all in front of you.
And I liked the weapon morphing idea, I was pretty disappointed that you have to unlock achievements, and i think make progress here and there, to get some. One even requires you to pay money for an ad-on pack (Could be wrong, going from memory) to unlock one. Now that's wrong in my opinion. I thought the weapons would morph with your alignments, which would have been a better system, cause it would feel like the weapons are more attached to you.
I don't mind what areas they put in the game, so long as they have a purpose besides storing your accumulated junk. Don't get me wrong ,the sanctuary looks nice, but it's purpose and what it adds to loading screens and menus isn't needed at all.
This is all just me though, if I can press a button to access my stuff and get right back to it, that is how I want it done. The more loading screens I see, the more I get bored and irritated.
And I've also become kinda cynical to Lionhead for some choices on how much Day/Week 1 DLC and add-ons they put in. I don't like being nickle-and-dime'd for content they clearly could have put in the game from the start. And how they have been slipping from roots on what drew me to Fable. I do want armor back in the game, real thought on magic spells, combat difficulty, difficulties in general, A.I intelligence, and the goodies that were in 1 and 2.
If Lionhead could essentially do a game on par with Fable 1, and implement what I detailed, I'd be happy. They have done a great job with customization, in 2 I loved how they made the economy more dynamic then just buying a house and shop, the combat in Fable 1 was more satisfying, since I felt like weapons have weight and some diversity. Hammers were slow, swords were fast, axes were balanced, and two handers looked were pretty cool (I know I'm forgetting a weapon or two). Now they did have this in Fable 2, but guns kinda took focus off other weapons. You could always have essentially used one form of attack through all the games, but the guns got really overpowered at the end, especially the legendary guns...I remember some of the bows at the end of 1 were pretty ridiculous with damage output, but the harder enemies still stood after a couple shots. Some guns though I think I was 1-shotting the harder enemies, which I didn't like. I know it's simply progression of technology, and I can understand that, while it was the medieval period that drew me in. I understood guns would be implemented through the story arch I read about, but the power should have been lowered a tad, or make the enemies more durable and resistant.
Speaking of story archs, I haven't seen no hide nor hair of the arch I remember. Wasn't it gonna be the fall of the original Heroes Guild, and the eventual resurgence of it as the protectors of the world once more? What happened? It's a 5-part series, or did this change? The original idea was good, heroes are always needed, and the guild being rebuilt and a new batch of heroes (While kinda cliche) would have been fitting since the original guilds downfall left Albion with little heroes. I could see the progression as 2 and 3 could have set this up and the progression through future games showing the need of a guild , and the guild grow from a couple heroes, to a fortress that would stand as a landmark and a warning to evil, and some big bad evil being defeated.
Which makes me think of how no truly proper final boss battle has been in the latest 2 games. Jack was easy, but he was a good boss and fun, what is an RPG with no good finale battle? I know it's not what an RPG is about, but think about it, the TES games, Borderlands, Mass Effect, and KoTOR, these have traditional final bosses, and you usually have a reason to kill them, and it's at the end...No big battle at the middle, then the rest is managing this and that. Two has you, or an NPC kill the big guy off with one shot, not fun.
I dunno, I'm traditional, so I can't get behind a letdown when I feel a big build up...This is all my views, I know it's not everyone's.
Tl;DR: I feel like the series needs to look at what it does and seek it's roots with some mechanics and ask what the fans wants. As it's going right now, it's kinda downhill from what I see. I love the series, so I don't want it to die cause of poor choices.
